That's a good tip. I agreee with you also that we need to do better with the parenting. The problem extends well beyond the file dialogs. I don't think this is good, I'd like to see SP_ACTIVE_DESKTOP all but removed from the codebase. When the verb is called it is passed the information on the window that called it. That's currently not passed into sp_file_open_dialog, but should be. (infact, very few verbs use it, but they should). The desktop can be gotten in any verb "perform" function with the following code: SPDesktop *dt = dynamic_cast(sp_action_get_view(action)); That is, if it is called on a SPDesktop and not another subclass of an action. But I would imagine that FileOpen always is. --Ted

Hey... I'm glad a couple of people agree with me, so I'm not going crazy. I think trying to embed GTK in Windows native in GTK seems like a very hard, risky, and potentially ugly way of solving the problem. I'm much more in favour of implementing an shell thumbnail extension to achieve our goal, mainly because it would be a more Windowsy solution, and would result in less hassle. This would solve the SVG preview problem for XP and Vista users, in Inkscape, and allow them to thumbnail across the whole system, which could be a significant selling point! Is there any reason why sp-ellipse.cpp uses .552 as the ellipse-to-bezier constant rather than something with a few more digits: 0.55228474983079356 I know it probably makes little visual difference, but why not use the exact number if you have it? I certainly wouldn't use 3.14 for PI. So why use .552 when you mean 4*(sqrt(2)-1)/3? --bb

Configure doesn't complains, but still inkscape building fail although I have python installed. Two versions exactly: 2.4.4 and 2.3.5. Hi, Back in March I sent a mail [1] on changes on inkscape.org that probably should take place. Here is the updated list of proposed changes. 1. "Documentation" section: 1.1. "Translation" subsection should be a link to http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/Translation_information 1.2. "Publications (Overviews)" subsection should be a link to http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/ArticlesAndPresentations 1.3. "Example SVG Files" subsection should be removed 1.4. "Tutorials" subsection should be renamed to "Official tutorials" 1.5. New "Contributed tutorials" subsection should appear and contain links to http://inkscapetutorials.wordpress.com/ and http://www.inkscapetutorials.com/ These new sites already list all available tutorials, so there is no need in a wiki page. 2. "Showcase" page should be removed and become a link to http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/Galleries. The Galleries wiki page should be reorganized (more on this later) 3. "Status" page should be either removed completely or be updated automatically (November 15, 2005 doesn't sound like the project is alive :)) 4. SVG Support in the Wiki

Hi All, I was in the process of trying to construct a wiki page for the spirograph extension I was working on a couple of months ago. There's not very much to say about it, but I've got an SVG of the output to demonstrate with. The SVG support in the wiki seems to be rather broken, as you can see: http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/Spirograph. Normally I'd just cut my losses and upload with PNG, it's just that I think the wiki of an SVG editor probably should have it's SVG support configured correctly. What do we think? Joel Holdsworth

Compiling with btool in Windows Vista

Hi Everyone, I'm just in the process of trying to get involved with the development of inkscape, and I've spent the last few weeks trying to compile it by various methods. The btool method (as suggested here http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/Win32Port ), is the simplest way, and in the end, the only way I can see to compile inkscape in Windows (although I have tried several approaches). Inkscape can be compiled no problem on a fresh install of Windows XP - I tried it on Virtual PC this morning. However, (and you may already be aware of this), it does not compile properly on Windows Vista, my main OS. First, mingwenv.bat runs successfully, whether running in an administrator or normal console. But there's hitch on the next step. The problem relates to g++ I think. If I do the step: "g++ buildtool.cpp -o btool", I get back the response "g++: _spawnvp: No such file or directory". It is possible to get past this step by compiling with btool with cygwin. However once you try and run btool.exe, you get the output printed below, which you may notice contains the killer line "i686-pc-mingw32-g++.exe: _spawnvp: No such file or directory". I think this must all be a problem with g++ in Vista. I'm not sure how what the dev team can do, but I think the wiki should be updated at least.
