Changes in the selector tool

Hi, Some major changes were planned to the selector tool, see e.g. Bulia's list of changes in. http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&aid=1589436&group_id=93438&atid… you'll have to scroll down a bit.... One of them was to have an option to snap either the APPROXIMATE_BBOX or the GEOMETRIC_BBOX, which would enable us to remove the confusing snap nodes / snap bbox option. In the future snapping to the grid/guide/path will always occur when the relevant grid/guide/path is visible, but that's for later. For now I've implemented the two bbox modes hard coded in the constructor of Inkscape::Seltrans in seltrans.cpp (at line 98). You can select the behavior you'd like and experiment with it, but for default I left at APPROXIMATE_BBOX. If you all agree on this new behavior then I will change the preferences in the UI, but I've never touched the UI before so I would like to have some feedback before diving into this. Along the way I've solved various snapping bugs, but probably also introduced some fresh ones. Let me know if you find one! There are some things to note: - If you choose the GEOMETRIC_BBOX, the handles will now be located at the GEOMETRIC_BBOX (they used to be always located at the APPROXIMATE_BBOX) - The origin option is not being used and will be deleted soon. - The origin doesn't drift away any longer (unless the object is being mirrored while scaling/stretching and APPROXIMATE_BBOX has been selected, but I still need to fix that) - The stroke width scales while dragging, even when the corresponding button has been disabled. When releasing the handle everything turns out just fine, but while dragging it still looks like snapping wrong. I don't think this is due to the selector tool though. It seemed at the time that there was a genuine effort to achieve some sort of sharing and mutual benefit. Did this happen or are the two projects just too far along their respective paths to allow easy cross-fertilisation? I notice that the Inkscape Paint Bucket idea is getting envious mention by members of the Xara community, and that some people are worried about Xara losing its appeal. The beauty of the proposed approach is that the 3D boxes themselves can serve as both planes and grids. Any dragging of a box's corner will snap it to the edges of other boxes, making boxes with collinear edges very easy to do. Today I imagine the ideal would be to use a program like blender, export as SVG, and then use inkscape to cleanup and beautify the end result. In any case, while this car example is perhaps rather extreme, there's a vast range of simpler cases - floor plan layouts, woodworking diagrams, etc. etc. - that people could get good use out of it. :-) Bryce

Memory leak in Clone Tiler

I'm deffinitely not an expert, but it seems that Clone Tile has a memory leak in clonetiler_remove. Removing clones doesn't free the memory taken for their creation (speaking of really many clones -- 1000 objects should be enough) but removes the clones itself (XML editor watched). Observe how memory increases when there are many clones created but doesn't get any lower when hitting Remove button. Vlada

Both do their real work using javascript, just one has the script embedded inside the svg and the other is sort of turned inside out with the svg inside the script. Well, not exactly but close enough. Is it possible to put mouse handling code inside svg's? If so then you could make a single svg that has the features of the OP's link. --bb

Suggestion for a better paint bucket cursor

I thought the paint bucket cursor could use a little work. So here's my humble offering. Not sure how to convert it to an XPM but it should still have the same original 3 color palette so it should convert no prob for someone with GraphicsMagick 'convert' in easy reach. --bb

"move selection to layer above/below" in wrong menu

Hey guys! I just stumbled across that fact, that "Move selection to layer above/below" is in the layers menu, while I think it would make a lot more sense to be in the object menu (although that is already rather full) since you actually do not modify the layer but the selection. 1.: What's your opinion on this? 2.: Should I file a bug about it? Backwards compatability of grids in InkscapeSVG

Because I made a new grid framework to better accomodate new grid types, I had to put the definition of grids elsewhere in SVG. If I'll remove the old grid code now, the 'old' grid in Inkscape SVG's will not be read, Inkscape will think no grid will be there. Aaron thought up a nice idea: to make an extension to convert old grids to new grids; then the codebase is not cluttered with compatability code, and we can easily remove the extension when it is deemed ancient. Ideas? Should this be sent to the user maillist aswell? Regards, Johan

Hello I am Diego Botelho of Argentina, I am Graphical Designer and I use Inkscape among other free tools with operating system Linux (distribution TUQUITO an Argentine distribution in which I am part of the Staff in the grafica of the system). Gustaria to collaborate to me making some bellboys for the program so that it changes the aspect and that it also arrives by the Vista, it is not that this badly, only is that in all the versions always there are changes very good but never of graph (icons of arrow, node, zoom lens, etc) gustaria for knowing to Me where I must send the graficos that do so that they see them and they decide if to use them or no, it is only an idea and a contribution but of toso those that integrate the list. Me gustaria colaborar haciendo algunos botones para el programa para que cambie el aspecto y que llegue tambien por la vista, no es que este mal, solamente es que en todas las versiones siempre hay cambios muy buenos pero nunca de gráfica (iconos de flecha, nodo, zoom, etc) Me gustaria saber donde tengo que enviar los graficos que haga para que los vean y decidan si usarlos o no, solamente es una idea y un aporte mas de toso los que integran la lista.
