Hi all, Yesterday I uploaded a little patch for the spanish po file. Matiphas told me to inform you if I wnated the patch to be applied. I don't think the three new strings are important enough (they are SIOX related) to break the freeze. But if you think there's no problem in applying the corrections, please go ahead. coordinate system flip for 0.45

One thing I'd like to address for the 0.45 release cycle is finally flipping Inkscape's coordinate system to match the SVG specification. However, before we can do that, there's one big looming issue: Grid and guides are stored in "Sodipodi coordinates". That means, for example, that a horizontal guide at position 0 will be at the bottom of the page. To address this, I'd like to propose a new feature: allow the user to specify the origin for grid and guides. The UI for the setting would be one of those 9x9 button grid things, which lets you pick one of nine positions: - top left - top center - top right - left center - center - right center - bottom left - bottom center - bottom right Guide positions would be reckoned from the selected edges, so that changing from top left to top right would flip the position of vertical guides. Thoughts? -mental

Licensing questions for livarot/libnr

Dear Inkscape developers, I would like to use livarot, which is now part of the Inkscape 0.43 source tree, in a LGPL library. I see that livarot was extensively patched with respect to its original public domain version and integrated with libnr. However I see that both libraries' license was not changed (public domain), with the exception of a few libnr classes (which I do not need), which are explicitly marked as GPL. For the LGPL library I'm working on, do I comply with the license by taking the patched Inkscape version of livarot/libnr (of course ensuring that no explicit GPL code is taken from the rest of Inkscape source tree)? Babelfish translation on www.Inkscape.org

Hi Inkscape translators ! I have just tried to use the babelfish translation on our homepage. Did you try it too? It is located on the bottom of the page. translate to [ Chinese French German Italian Japanese Korean Portuguese Spanish ] When i use the German button, the translation is terrible, to be polite. It produces nonsens and bullshit with no sense at all. It is useless. A relict from old times,when inkscape had no translation of the homepage. Currently we have german, french, italic and spanisch translation which is maintained. It could be improoved. Maybe. I think the best solution is to disable babelfish completly. How do you think about that? Please try that link in your language and give your feedback in this mailinglist.

0.44 release status

Okay, at this point, do we really have any reason to continue the freeze? We're only (as far as I know) waiting for the splash artwork. I think we should create the release branch if we've not done so already, and unfreeze trunk so people can continue working. When the artwork's done, we'll be tagging and releasing from the release branch anyway. -mental

Deptool on Win32

We have been using the Makedep perl scripts for over two years now, quite successfully. There have been a couple of problems, though which I have been trying to alleviate. One is the requirement for Perl on Win32, which is moot now that there is a full Perl distro in the lib bundle. The other is that the original code is very unreadable, and difficult to maintain. The original SF.net project seems to have gone into hibernation, and the owner hasn't responded to my emails. Also, it would be a great benefit to us if we could process the data in various forms to analyze the inter-file dependencies, and maybe generate charts from it. So, last week I did a reimplementation of the Makedep functionality in C++, calling it DepTool. The file was added to the tree this morning. The makefiles were tweaked to use it instead of mkdep.pl. When it runs, it produces 3 files: make.files : a listing of all of the files which will be analyzed further make.dep : the OBJECTS and INCLUDES definitions, and the dependency list make.ref : a new thing, this is basically the inverse of a dependency list. It lists all .h files, and all files recursively which depend of them. This has the potential to be -very- useful. It takes about 15 seconds to run on the /src directory. It -seems- like it is taking longer, but that it because it doesn't output progress info, to save CPU. It is actually -much- faster than Perl. This is with the added burden of make.ref, which is a slow search. Let me know if you have any major problems with it. bob

Most of the About Inkscape stuff is done. I moved the contents of About Inkscape into the category page at [[Category:About Inkscape]] and set up a redirect. Now I am working on the Attic and User Documentation. cheers, David
