Hi all, Okay, it sounds like from the earlier discussions that there is a rough concensus to do 0.43 as 100 points worth of RFE's followed by 100 points of bug fixes, then a hard freeze, and so on through the release. I'm going to start counting from Sept 1st for the RFE's, and will begin counting bugs as soon as we hit 100. Should be fun. :-) I'm curious to see how swiftly we can reach the hard freeze point. I'm betting on Sept 15th. So ctrl+alt+7 would scale to the upper left, ctrl+alt+8 would be the representation for dragging the handle on the top. But now that i think about it, shift should then be used to scale down. ctrl+alt+shift+9 would be the same then dragging the upper right handle towards the lower left. Maybe the Num-Lock key could be used to switch between pixel-accurate scaling and normal scaling. Alternatively: Scaling is always pixel-accurate, Num-Lock is used to switch between up- and downscaling, and shift is used to scale in two directions. ctrl+alt+shift+6 or ctrl+alt+shift+4 would scale the object horizontally, keeping its original center. greets, caliga

Hi, Looking at roadmap I realised that with current extensions infrastructure there should be just one simple step to have pdf2svg import - to write an inx file and to put pdf2svg files in right places. I thiunk I have succeded with the first part, but failed with the other. When I try to import a PDF file, Inkscape tells me: Can't locate Math/Matrix.pm in @INC (@INC contains: /etc/perl /usr/local/lib/perl/5.8.7 /usr/local/share/perl/5.8.7 /usr/lib/perl5 /usr/share/perl5 /usr/lib/perl/5.8 /usr/share/perl/5.8 /usr/local/lib/site_perl .) at /usr/share/perl/5.8/Parser.pm line 20. Inkscape 0.42.2-0 static RPM package

Hello, Better late than never, they say. Anyway, I've set up a static build environment today and tested it on the previous Inkscape release. The resulting static RPM installs and works fine on my RPM-based distro (SuSE LInux 9.3). It would be great if it could be tested on other systems, though. Well, I suppose that means I'm volunteering for the creation of static RPMs from now on :-) Now, should I upload inkscape-0.42.2-0.static.i686.rpm to SourceForge right away or should I just don't bother and wait for the 0.43 release? Anyway since I've realised it's only 2.5K, the entire list can now see what a mess it is. All my work was done with version 12 files, but since the UI of CorelDraw hasn't changed fundamentally since version 9 at least (and in fact I can name some bugs that have been around since then too) I'd be surprised if the file format has changed. The large differences you're seeing are almost certainly due to the compression (zlib) which will have the effect of magnifying even a one byte change (eg a creation timestamp). Richard.

Scribus cmdline import/export (patch)

Hi Peter and Craig, A while back we discussed an idea of packaging the scribus pdf/ps import/export code for use with Inkscape, since Inkscape's pdf/ps (esp. EPS import) support is so poor. However it occurs to me that another solution would be to simply give scribus some commandline options for doing import/export. E.g. scribus -i filename.eps -e filename.svg Inkscape would then be able to make use of scribus' import/export capabilities via its extension mechanism. Since for all practical intents and purposes, people would need to use scribus for getting eps/pdf converted to svg for use in inkscape already anyway, I don't think this imposes much additional dependency hassle for them. I looked into the scribus code a bit to see how this could be implemented. I wasn't sure how to call the import/export plugins, but I sketched out the code for handling the -i/-e commandline options as a start... See the attached patch. I put TODO's where the code to invoke the import/export plugins would go. I think that if it supported command line options for your input/output operators, scribus would become more widely useful, especially for commercial users (look at http://www.pdftron.com/store.html). Inkscape 0.43 Hard Freeze

With the completion of the bug party today, it is time to move into the hard freeze for Inkscape 0.43, under the watch of our release wardens pjrm and joncruz. Today's testing unfortunately did not cover all of the new features, but we did manage to bang on the connector code really hard, and scared up a number of bugs in it (no showstoppers, but a couple crashes and a lot of odd behaviors.) We attempted to get the inkboard feature working, but did not succeed in establishing a working connection, so there's at least one bug there... We closed about 10 bugs today, mostly invalid/dupe/outdated, but there were a few fixes. pjrm and joncruz will be the release wardens for this release. All changes to the codebase must go through them. Do not commit to CVS; instead post your changes as patches to the tracker with your rationale for why to include them before or after the 0.43 release. Peter and Jon will decide when the codebase is ready for release. This may include requiring specific bugs be fixed, or tasks to be done. When they feel it is ready, the codebase will be tagged and branched, and we will enter the release phase. I will continue to track tasks for the 0.43 release, but it will be up to them whether to wait until all those tasks are complete or to decide we are ready to release with some tasks still unfinished.
