Webform/Contact
by Wolfram Quester
Hi,
I'm happy about the new webform, it seems to become quite accepted. I
wonder however if people will perceive the link if the topic moves out
of the first news. Wouldn't it be better to add a "Contact" item in the
menu in the Developer section? Especially now as the mails are directed
to the developer's ML?
With best wishes,
Wolfi

there you are. (if this will work ;)
BTW, how can a set of colors be copyrighted? i know pantore is a registered trademark, but there\'s nothing special in a set of colors. also, cliparts may contain all of the pantone colors without a problem. why shouldn\'t a palette? maybe you should not name it pantone. but if i got that right, gimp also uses it!?

I would suggest "flattening" a copy of the svg document by converting the
difficult parts such as text, to Paths, then saving as "plain svg". See
if that works.
Isn't <flowRoot> new to SVG 1.2? (still a draft, not a spec yet). If
so, there are likely
few renderers that support it.

RE: [Inkscape-devel] WEBFORM
by Cory Sytsma
I've attached the file, so you guys can do with it what you'd like. If
attachments don't make it through the listserv, let me know, and I can
paste the contents into an email
I did put a request into Pantone, asking about including a color swatch
with Inkscape, in the same way that Illustrator and others have Pantone
palettes. We'll see what they say.

does not suffice because there is now something like a
copyright on collections. this was introduced to protect
the database industry, and forced on the int'l community.
OTOH, I fail to see any problems with, say 75% of the colors,
without any name.

Improve Inkscape Terminology
by Daniel Stiefelmaier
Hi!
We had some discussions on how to translate some expressions to german.
Colin felt that we can only use "better fitting" terms if the english
ones are also adapted...
i think, terms should be self-explanatory, if possible.
live shape for example: if you translate that to german and back you
might get lifeform ;)
well, i know Nortons live update also doesn't improve health, but
anyway, a direct translation is impossible
So, here are some suggestion of me:
live shape -> dynamic shape (because it is similar to dynamic offset)
dynamic offset -> dynamic object/form/shape
well, maybe live shapes and dynamic offsets should not have the same
name, but still they act similar. but "object with dynamic outline" is a
bit cumbersome.
linked offset
this is hard. i'd name it "linked dynamic object" or "controlled
dynamic objekt"
even more "dynamic object (controlled)" because it is just the same
than the parent object, plus it can be controlled by the parent object.
maybe the objects name could be
"dynamic object (controlled)" and the menu entry
"create controlled dynamic object" or "derive controlled dynamic object"
also this menu entry should only be available if a dynamic object is
selected, but this may be a different topic ;)
inset/outset
(this is more a german problem, we just couln't find an appropriate
translation)
also not so simple, as "shrink" / "expand" (current german translation,
there is no in/outset in german) do not really tell, that this is not a
resize.
Is that correct, that this scales orthogonal to the normal? how could
this be expressed?
a few days ago we voted for "aussenkontur/innenkontur", meaning sth.
like "outer/inner contour"
but now i think this is wrong, as is does not create a new outline, but
scale the original object.
hm... new ideas:
path -> translate outwards ("nach außen versetzen" oder "nach außen
setzen")
path -> translate inwards ("nach innen versetzen" oder "nach innen
setzen")
path -> expand ("expandieren" oder "nach außen
erweitern")
path -> collapse ( ??? oder "nach innen ???)
well... maybe we can just leave that one...
colin: i just thought we could return to "schrumpfen" and "ausdehnen"
but in fact, not the path is shrinked, but the surrounded area: more
slim/slenderize ("schlanker"/"abnehmen") and rise ("zunehmen")
another thing is, that inset/outset does not reflect that it is similar
to the dynamic offset (or better dynamic object)
phew... enough said and done for today...

weehihi :)
First i *really* had to think what's about nitzsche and "Über" :)
Maybe you should realize that Germans use "über" in more than 99,99% in
absolutely different and normal contexts.
Maybe the translation of a common folksong will be more pleasant:
"Über den Wolken muss die Freiheit wohl grenzenlos sein..."
"Over the clouds, i guess freedom is borderless. All fears and sorrows
stay hidden beyond, they say. [...]"
This song was banned in the former Federal Republic of Germany :)

Well, thank you, but I've been studying German since 1988, so your
comment doesn't make any sense to me, sorry :)
My point is that reusing "Über-" Composite brings too much confusion
and you have all chances in the world to end up explaining each and
everyone that you didn't mean anything offensive. And there are better
things to waste time on ;-)

Re: New Inkscape Goals?
by Daniel Stiefelmaier
As there was some talk about exporting to different formats, i'd like to
thow in another one...
OASIS came in my mind. the open document format.
Karbon14 uses it yet and i'd guess OpenOffice's drawing app also will.
This may not be an important goal, as the format is not popular yet, but
still i think inkscape should support it sooner or later.
But maybe we don't need to bother about that and get that ability from
the Uber-Converter. ;)
