Hello all, I have enabled the great work that Roan has done on adapting getid3 to use SVG and XML and glued in this work. His work seems to work great thus far. I changed a few values on in the .htaccess file (which solves many of the woes ccHost folks complain about and is a good way to do this with an service provider...another email for that) Anyhow, this now opens the testing phase for uploading compliant SVG files that you all are dedicate to the public domain. There are several tasks that still need to be done before we move over, however, I think we are within 1-2 days if some of you are dedicated to rocking this out. I'm inclined to move over to this new infrastructure as soon as possible...like by yesterday! The largest features we need before switching over are: 1.) export of our content from the old system to the new one 2.) SVG thumbnails 3.) writing metadata to SVG files in getid3 4.) migration of old web content from old site to the new one The tasks are listed on the wiki (http://openclipart.org/wiki/index.php/CcHost#Phase_1). How about we divide and conquer these task? Are there tasks that you all would like to sign up for, or are already working on? I will sign up for a task if you all sign up for some :) I'm thinking to do either number 4 or number 2 in the above list. ### Otherwise, one of the greatest ways you can help out is by uploading your SVG clip art to this test site now, leaving comments, testing out features, emailing the list or chatting if there are issues. ### If you have administrative access, try out the various features of the site. There are several new ones since we first started this migration, such as Manage Files: http://openclipart.org/cchost/media/admin/files/manage This feature allows for one to manage the files for the site without having to login with SSH...pretty cool... tileable patterns

Inkscape is really cool but there's one feature that I'd like to se, either as a plugin or part of inkscape and that is the ability to easily create tileable patterns. Given that svg supports using SVG files as patterns this would be beneficial to plenty of people. I envisage some kind of tileable mode where anything you move beyond a given side of the document appears automatically on the opposite side. This way you could preview your tile while creating it Thanks!

Google Summer of Code final surveys

Note that the end of the Google SoC is coming up. The final surveys will be posted tomorrow, and will be due Friday, Sept 8th. The due date for the student to have their code posted to the mentor was the 21st, and Google is recommending that mentors base their evaluation on what had been completed by 08:00 on Aug 21st. Hi, After reading a tantalizing entry in the SVN log file, I just had to give the latest version a try at loading SVG drawings that use filters. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ r12970 | kiirala | 2006-08-25 20:40:13 +0200 (Fri, 25 Aug 2006) | 3 lines Fixed a crash in modifying filter parameters in XML editor. Fixed filters not appearing, when a file with filters is loaded. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Gaussian Blur example from my book loaded quite nicely: http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/images/XMLEDIT/GaussianBlur.svg There are some display issues when the zoom level is greater than 100% (horizontal discontinuities appear) but overall a very nice development. I tried varying the blur radius with the XML editor but the drawing was not updated. When reloading the Gaussian Blur file with a modified blur radius, Inkscape crashed with the error message: ** ERROR **: file sp-object.cpp: line 861 (void SPObject::releaseReferences()): assertion failed: (this->hrefcount == 0) aborting... I have completed a first pass at updating the print dialog. It is modeled on the gimp-print dialog in having a radiobutton group to select between standard command, custom command, and print to file. I don't have a printer but printing to file works. There is no way to specify a non-default printer with the standard command, have to select custom command for that. Please check out the attached patch and let me know any issues. I would also like to help with the upgrade to gtk 2.8 if someone can help me understand the issues. blur filter slider suggestion

Hi guys, I've been messing with the blur tool today and noticed a few behavioural optimisations we could do to the slider to cut back on bloating our files. the slider should lock to Increments. for example : 0.25 0.50 1.00 2.50 5.00 7.50 10.00 20.00 the user is still allowed to specify an arbitary value but it may be useful to handle filters in a similar way as we do gradient definitions. Create the <filter> def for the stddeviation when it has been set and link to that same <filter> for all future blurs if the same value. The locking of the slider comes into place because it makes the default user behaviour more optimised when only casually playing with blur settings. I guess we should think about htis . oh, also attached is a quick example i made today to show an airbrushed style effect using blurs and gradients

MSI Packages

Dear Scribus & Inkscape developers, I love both your applications and would like to encourage my colleagues and students to use them. I notice that the OpenOffice team have now made their Windows version into an MSI package which will greatly ease the adoption of the package in University departments for example (which more commonly nowadays) often run WIndows Domains with centralized installation systems.
