Will be released in September. > - Andreas Andreas: That's wonderful wonderful news, I'm so glad to hear it. It's going to massively improve a lot of gtk apps for windows users. But for the rest of the inkscape icons - like the drawing tools etc, the windows users will want the tango icons for these as well, simply because they're very much more in keeping with the Windows style. Inkscape overcomes Xara in Google Trends

Now, to support the momentum, we must release a smashing 0.46 soon enough, and make a lot of noise about it. It really deserves it. (Note by the way that while we are ahead in user interest, we are nowhere to be seen on the lower graph which reflects mentions in the news. That's not fair.) GSoCers and all others, please let's get to work one more time and fix all the loose ends in your projects. They need not be perfect but the most glaring user-visible problems must be ironed out for Inkscape to reach a releaseable state. You know who you are and what you need to do :) If you think that your project is already good enough for a release, please drop a note here, otherwise let us know of your current state, what remains to do, and when you are planning to finalize your work. And, let's make bugfixing a priority right now, even without waiting for a freeze. We have a scary number of open bugs in the tracker. Yet we now have so many developers that if each one closes just one bug a day, we'll make the tracker shrink pretty fast. Note that closing a bug need not necessarily involve coding; you can just take some old bug, test it and close as fixed or unreproduceable. Any help from non-developers is of course very welcome too. need-review: Default Metadata Preferences Patch

hi! I have just submitted a patch that implements a "default metadata" page on the preferences dialog. This defines the default values to be used as metadata for newly created documents. I need someone to review this code, please. It works fine for me. There is just one little issue: I havent been able to figure out how to update the status of the license radiobuttons on the documentMetadata dialog. Some more experienced programmer could, please, take a look at it? I imagine that it may be a simple thing that is still just not clear enough for me. 0.46 release plan proposal

Hi all, Now that GSoC projects are finished and the code has had time to stabilize, it seems a good time to get the 0.46 release moving ahead. With Gutsy released, I finally have some time to contribute towards Inkscape release work, and will help try to get efforts organized. I'd like to propose the following release plan, based roughly on the 0.45 plan. Let me know if there's anything missing. 1. Open development. 2. Chill. Development focuses on wrapping up. Identify 'make distcheck' issues Triage bug reports Run an About Screen contest First draft of Release Notes. Update tutorials and other docs 3. Frost. Most development complete. Release Notes should be >90% filled in. Bug Hunt: 500 points Post inkscape-0.46-alpha.tar.gz 4. Feature Freeze. No further development work. Disable features that can't be finished in time Focus on critical bug fixing. Finalize all tutorials, docs, etc. Finalize all extensions Translators create translations. Inkscape must pass 'make distcheck' Post inkscape-0.46-beta.tar.gz 5. Hard freeze. Only release wardens can commit to mainline. No further string changes Focus on release-critical bug fixing. Finalize translations, release notes, etc. Packagers test creating pkgs of the -beta release Post inkscape-0.46-rc1.tar.gz 6. Branch. Establish the Stable Branch for release Complete any late-late-late work. Final verification of packaging, release notes, docs, etc. Publish more release candidates until ready for release. Plan 0.46.1+ release(s), if needed 7. Release. Post inkscape-0.46.tar.gz Post packages Post official announcements 8. Open development. I'm sort of thinking for this release we ought to plan on establishing a stable branch much earlier than we've done before, and maintain split devel / stable branches for a bit (maybe a couple months). I think that'd allow us to spend much more time than usual getting things release-worthy, without too heavily impacting people who wish to keep doing development work. We'll have a bunch of interesting random tasks (mostly non-coding) to do to get the release polished up and ready to go. Are you interested in participating in the release team? Let me know! Bryce

hello, I made recently my first draw using Live Path Effects. (see http://pannini.lesgeorges.org/media/couv_web.png) And I can tell : they are very powerful ! I wrote the main points that need to be corrected or at least discussed. I know LPEs are not finished yet, but I want to be sure that those points are taken into account. - I had a problem when I wanted to copy a path with a pattern along path applied : the "pattern source" is not copied but the two paths share the same "pattern source". If I want to modify the pattern source of my copy and not disturb the first one, I can't. To my opinion, this is really something to change. - The same problem for the "bend path" effect - In the last SVN, when you translate a object with a "bend path" effect, it translate well. But I really think that when rotating or scaling such kind of object, it should do the same : rotate and scale the "visual object" (maybe by rotating or scaling the "source path" too) - scaling or flipping an object with a pattern along path effect applied : the source path is modified but not the "pattern source" => the "visual object" shape is not the same than before the transformation. NEW: Grid visibility and snap enabling

Hi all, I just added two checkboxes to the grid settings: * Visibility and snap enabled. ** Visibility turns of display of the grid, which I find useful from time to time because snapping is still enabled for invisible grids. To disable snapping (when having multiple grids, this is essential), one should use 'snap enabled' ** "Snap enabled" does not yet work. I hope Diederik can implement this soon, I think it should not be too hard? * I hope to get the axonometric grid working soon, I need it at work! :-) * I am aware of the bugs in setting grid parameters. Hopefully I can find the cause soon, it is annoying me aswell. Cheers, Johan

Inkscape native on OSX - try 2

Hi everyone, I've been trying to get Inkscape to compile against the new version of GTK on OS X, with the "quartz" option enabled (i.e. without X11). The good news is that it compiles and that MacPorts provides a way to work with both native and X11 versions of GTK quite easily (which means one does not have to remove and recompile everything one way or another every time). The bad new is that, though Inkscape starts without X11 and that the GUI is shown, it crashes with this error message: ** (inkscape:9060): CRITICAL **: const GSList* sp_document_get_resource_list(SPDocument*, const gchar*): assertion `document != NULL' failed ** (inkscape:9060): CRITICAL **: const GSList* sp_document_get_resource_list(SPDocument*, const gchar*): assertion `document != NULL' failed Emergency save activated! If you can reproduce this crash, please file a bug at www.inkscape.org with a detailed description of the steps leading to the crash, so we can fix it. It doe not occur with the X11 version so that's probably related to GTK/Cairo/Pango/Poppler being freed from X11. However, the GUI shows and the messages don't seem directly display-related. display adjustment

Jon, sorry to be picking on you again :) but I have comments on the new command you added to View": - "display adjustment" is too generic. It may mean a lot of things. The statusbar tip explains it, but why not rename the command itself to something like "display color management" or "display CMS" etc. - if it's a toggle, it must be presented as a toggle and have a check mark against the command name in the menu. - if you cannot yet disable the command on displays where it does nothing, you must at least provide some feedback when the command is invoked - the statusbar must flash one of "display cms mode turned on", "display cms mode turned off," or "cms mode is not supported by this display." - what about windows? mac? if it never works on windows, please make it compiling conditionally, and mention that it's X-only in the release notes. -- bulia byak Inkscape. Hey everybody, I'm not really aware right now who created this awesome possibility. I haven't really used it for any productive work so far, but I just love it. Maybe not the interface completely, but hey, the live effect itself is so fantastic! It's great for doing brush effects but by far more flexible, than what I've seen in Illustrator so far... Thanks! Hi all, Is boehm-gc version 7.0 known to be broken or anything? Does someone uses it successfully on another platform? Compiling Inkscape against v 7.0 on OS X cause it to hang forever on startup.
