There were several packaging issues discovered with pre2, so I've posted one more pre-release. There are also a few bug fixes included; see the NEWS file for details. Download from: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=93438&package_id=9911… Let me know ASAP if there are any remaining problems. Otherwise we'll hopefully get 0.45.0 final out tomorrow or Saturday. Bryce

These are (at least for me as a designer) showstoppers as the whole usability of the "main new function" is under question... On the other side I have no clue about how difficult is a redesign of that behaviour, so probably the blur function will make its way to 0.45 release with the actual behaviour... Dropper tool broken in 0.45pre and trunk?

Hi, In both trunk and 0.45 the dropper tool appears to be broken. Steps: 1. Remove preference file. 2. Draw square (it should be blue). 3. Draw circle (it should be red), leave selected. 4. Select dropper tool. 5. Move cursor over square and rectangle, note that the status bar is not updated, reads #000000 alpha 0 if Pick Alpha is checked, #ffffff if Pick alpha is not checked. 6. Click on square, circle turns white (or black of Pick alpha is checked and Set alpha not checked). If it does work, try picking the color from a few more objects. It worked on some of the object I tried after doing a make clean, make install, but failed on others. I didn't see a pattern to which ones worked and which ones didn't. Additional observation: if the dropper tool is click-dragged it works on those objects where simply clicking doesn't. Tested with Fedora Core 6. Note that 0.44.1 works as expected. Tav

We have been working in the K-12 public school sector for over 17 years teaching animation. Two questions: Is this the appropriate forum to discuss about adding features to Inkscape? We are interested in discussing the possibilities of adding some simple animation features? We hope to hear from someone soon. LGM 2007 - Press Release - Spanish translation help

Hello all, We are a bit in an empasse with respect to the Spanish translation of our press release (http://create.freedesktop.org/wiki/index.php/Conference_2007_Press_Release) I want to ask if someone has the time to translate the first part of the press release (not the second with the descriptions of the programs). It would be even better if we had a list of Spanish computer and graphic art magazines (email addresses) to send the translations to. We want to fire up the press release on sunday night, after the official LGM website is online. I really apologise for asking that lately, but I really thought someone else had taken care of it. Scheduling of 0.45 final?

Hi all (especially translators), It appears we're very near the time to do the final release of 0.45, so it would be good for us to schedule when to tag the final official 0.45.0. If I understand, there are no further code bug fixes planned for this release, but there is still some work related to translations. Is there anything else we are waiting on besides this? E.g., documentation or packaging fixes? For any remaining work (including translations), can anyone that needs more time please tell me when you plan to be finished? Then we can evaluate when to set the release dates. Regarding translations, it looks like some string issues have been identified and discussed. It's a little unclear what the status of these are, but I found a bug item where we could collect all of this information for the release: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1645093&group_id=… Please, if you know of untranslatable strings, spelling errors, or other such issues that still are not fixed in the release branch, can you please add them to this bug? Even if they cannot be fixed for 0.45.0, we should put priority on fixing them for 0.45.1. Thanks, Bryce

Gaussian Blur filter

Hi, I've been playing with the Gaussian Blur filter for updating my book and have a couple of comments: 1. In the release notes it states that one can achieve a different blur in the vertical and horizontal directions by first stretching a path, then blurring it, and finally shrinking it back. This appears to work only if the path does not have a "transform" attribute after it is stretched. The SVG standard includes a provision for separate x and y blurring and Inkscape seems to have the code in nr_filter-gaussian.cpp to handle this; this seems to be a more natural way to achieve the desired result. A second blur slider could be added. Or what about using "Blur Handles" that function like the rectangle tool corner radius handles? 2. The term "Blur Radius" in the release notes should be defined. A look at the code reveals that it is the Standard Deviation of the Gaussian. This definition maybe has only meaning to the mathematically astute but one should be able to come up with a meaningful definition. 3. Why is a filter object created (or renamed) every time a blurred object is moved? The filter parameters don't change. Why would the filter object ever be renamed? This leads to the general question of how Inkscape handles SVG files that come from other sources. A number of people have complained about Inkscape mangling their files and I think that this is one example of that. Tav
