Where is code for the inkscape prefs dialog?

I've grepped through the sources trying to find where the "Save window geometry" entry in the preferences dialog comes from but I'm coming up with nothing. Where is the code for the prefs dialog? Other than that and a little tweaking, I've pretty much got my patch for remembering window sizes and state (maximized/fullscreen) working. I just need to add the preference to the prefs dialog. --bb

pdf - blur/filter support ?

Hello, I wonder whether pdf has the ability to output blur/filter natively. I do a lot now with blur like shadows but the exported pdf is not the same. I already downloaded the pdf reference but there might be to much pages so I did not found the reference. I am looking for something that corresponds to svg filters. Could someone point me to the right direction ? Thx, Adib. ---

Startup preferences

Any hints as to which files I should look at for adding the ability to save Inkscape's window position between runs? -------------------------- Proposal: The basic idea would be to add another preference under Windows which is "Restore last window geometry" right before "Save window geometry" The the logic would be to try saved geometry in the doc first, then use the user preference. onStartup: if (startupDoc && startupDoc.hasSavedWindowLayout) { setWindowGeometryFromStartupDoc(startupDoc); } else if (userPrefs.restoreLastWindowGeometry && userPrefs.hasStoredWindowGeometry) { setWindowGeometryFromUserPrefs(userPrefs); } onShutdown: saveLastWindowGeometryToUserPrefs(getCurrentWindowGeometry) This would also save/restore the maximized state as is common for MS Windows apps. --------- Actually my preference would be to reverse the order and always use the userPrefs first if restoreLastWindowGeometry is set, but I'm thinking the other way around would be more politically acceptable with current developers. And I don't think the difference is worth making yet another preference. Suggestions appreciated. This one just really frustrates me. I started looking over the startup code today but didn't immediately find where prefs or window geometry are handled. --bb

Higher Precision

I'm curious... why is the precision for grids, guides and tiled clones only 0.00 while you can readily place objects with a precision of 0.000? Is there any special reason for the lower precision? I have already posted this as a request for higher precision and as a bug for inconsistency. And while I'm thinking about it... how about the same level of precision for angles of rotation?

Flood fill suggestion - Bound threshold

Some of the stuff I do with the calligraphy tool has gaps between sections I would like to colour. Visually the gaps don't bother me, but I can't use Flood Fill when the area isn't properly closed. It would be nice there was a threshold where we could say that gaps of a certain size should be considered closed. Yeah, I think I kinda talked you into PyXML. Though you can certainly write extensions for Inkscape without it. I had no idea that people would let something so important, ie one of the only python libraries that supported some of the more advanced XML features, go defunct. PyXML was not internal to the python distribution. It was an extension layer on top of the core DOM functionality available in the python distribution. I don't know what happened to PyXML. I asked several acquaintances who are closer with the Python community and no one knew. Everyone I spoke with is quite happy with the ElementTree api that is now part of the standard Python 1.5 distribution. ElementTree looks reasonable to me, but again like the core dom module in the standard library it doesn't support functionality that is important to me especially XPath. Thankfully I think I may have found the best of both worlds in lxml. Someone has implemented the popular ElementTree API on top of libxml2 and extended it by exposing libxml2's support for XPath and other technologies that are important for working with XML. Could one convert the code from PyXML to lxml using regex and string processing, I suppose. The translation is pretty simple. You could probably do a 1:1 substitution automatically. For me it is going to be easier to edit the relatively few scripts in the Inkscape distribution by hand. And that will help me learn the API a bit better. Summer of Code Update

Hi all! Thought it might be a good time for an update on Summer of Code proceedings. Essentially, my approach so far has been to tackle a bug or two, as suggested by Richard way back in April, before moving on to the interface redesign. I chose "[ 1243190 ] SVG Text: tRef Elements do not work" to work on first because it should give me a hands on feel for text in SVG and help me become familiar with certain aspects of the Inkscape architecture. After this bug, I may choose another or dive into the UI stuff; it depends on how long this one takes. Gail
