Another font issue: Calluna Regular

Calluna Regular, which is currently in use on the website is a commercial font. While it's true that the regular version is offered under a free license, it is not offered under an OFL license, and what's a bit worse, is not licensed at all for use in documents, etc. (only desktop/web, and some sites want to sell a web license for it, which is worrying). So... heh. Anyone want me to work on finding alternatives for that one too? We pretty much need to. -C

Strange bug related to "recent file" list

Dear all, I just experienced (and -- fortunately -- solved) a strange bug that almost made me crazy. I am sending this mail with my experience, in case it could help someone else with the same problem. I checked the devel mailing list for something related (searched for "recent file"), but I did not find anything, so I assume that this is new. If it is not new, or if this is not the right mailing list, please excuse me. I use inkscape 0.91 on Linux Mint cinnamon 17, 32 bit. Until yesterday inkscape was working just fine. Suddenly, I was not able to open any SVG file, including the tutorials. As soon as the file opened, inkscape died with "inkscape experienced an internal error and it will close now." The output at terminal showed that it died with GLib::ConversionError and running inkscape under gdb showed that the exception was threw by GLib::filename_from_url. I tried rebooting, removing (completely) inkscape and re-installing, removing the configuration directory under .gconf, but the bug remained. If I run inkscape as a different user, it worked fine. I recompiled inkscape from sources in order to have all the symbols. By running it under gdb I discovered that the problem was an entry "file://pitch.ops" in the recent file list. I guess the problem was that the file was with a relative path (note the two '/') and not an absolute one (I guess this is a bug of OpenShot, why registering a relative path in the "recent file" list?). I cleaned the "recent files" list and everything works again. I hope this helps. We've narrowed it down to four finalists for the "Draw Freely" font. http://www.opendesignstudio.org/inkscape/samples/draw-freely_vote_finalists… So pick your favs from this final set, and the winner will be announced Monday. #1 is in the lead right now, so if no one votes, that will be our new Draw Freely font. :) Thanks for your votes! -C

User Tutorials and Presentations

Dear all, One of the things that would have been good for this conference (Graphical Web 2015) is an Inkscape tutorial presentation. Very few people know where anything is in inkscape or even what it's capable of while Adobe is given a lot of space to tutorial and present on their actual technology. It's a bit depressing actually. But at least there is the interest in inkscape and we are mentioned in other people's talks. Should we prepare some of the video scripts we end up making into presentable packages? It might be something easy for us to do if we just package up what we make for others to present? Thoughts? Martin,

Graphical Web Conference: SVG2 Points

Dear all, The conference is going well. I am reporting back that there is heightened interest in connector points. I have been approached a couple of time to talk about them. We have a <point...> element defined in svg2 so far, what is the current implementation status and/or what is the current estimated workload for an implementation?
