We have been working in the K-12 public school sector for over 17 years teaching animation. Two questions: Is this the appropriate forum to discuss about adding features to Inkscape? LGM 2007 - Press Release - Spanish translation help

Hello all, We are a bit in an empasse with respect to the Spanish translation of our press release (http://create.freedesktop.org/wiki/index.php/Conference_2007_Press_Release) I want to ask if someone has the time to translate the first part of the press release (not the second with the descriptions of the programs). It would be even better if we had a list of Spanish computer and graphic art magazines (email addresses) to send the translations to. We want to fire up the press release on sunday night, after the official LGM website is online. I really apologise for asking that lately, but I really thought someone else had taken care of it. Scheduling of 0.45 final?

Hi all (especially translators), It appears we're very near the time to do the final release of 0.45, so it would be good for us to schedule when to tag the final official 0.45.0. If I understand, there are no further code bug fixes planned for this release, but there is still some work related to translations. Is there anything else we are waiting on besides this? E.g., documentation or packaging fixes? For any remaining work (including translations), can anyone that needs more time please tell me when you plan to be finished? Then we can evaluate when to set the release dates. Regarding translations, it looks like some string issues have been identified and discussed. It's a little unclear what the status of these are, but I found a bug item where we could collect all of this information for the release: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1645093&group_id=… Please, if you know of untranslatable strings, spelling errors, or other such issues that still are not fixed in the release branch, can you please add them to this bug? Gaussian Blur filter

Hi, I've been playing with the Gaussian Blur filter for updating my book and have a couple of comments: 1. In the release notes it states that one can achieve a different blur in the vertical and horizontal directions by first stretching a path, then blurring it, and finally shrinking it back. This appears to work only if the path does not have a "transform" attribute after it is stretched. The SVG standard includes a provision for separate x and y blurring and Inkscape seems to have the code in nr_filter-gaussian.cpp to handle this; this seems to be a more natural way to achieve the desired result. A second blur slider could be added. Or what about using "Blur Handles" that function like the rectangle tool corner radius handles? 2. The term "Blur Radius" in the release notes should be defined. A look at the code reveals that it is the Standard Deviation of the Gaussian. This definition maybe has only meaning to the mathematically astute but one should be able to come up with a meaningful definition. 3. Why is a filter object created (or renamed) every time a blurred object is moved? The filter parameters don't change. Why would the filter object ever be renamed? This leads to the general question of how Inkscape handles SVG files that come from other sources. A number of people have complained about Inkscape mangling their files and I think that this is one example of that. Tav

I don't have my tablet at the office so I don't know if pressure makes a difference either. It seems like overkill (in typical AI fashion) to have SEVEN tools to accomplish these various (but somewhat similar) tasks. My first question is, do we add this functionality to an existing tool or create a new "distortion" tool? Either way, I propose a bunch of modifiable parameters (including size of affected area, as it seems AI can't do that... at least not with the mouse). Oh and can't forget that if we could enable pressure and tilt interaction for tablets that would totally rock. Anyway, if we go the parameter route, it also seems like a good time to perhaps look experimenting with a "preset" system. So people can save and load presets. If we make it very flexible we could ship with a bunch of presets and also have community contributed presets on the website that people could download. I guess I look at this distortion/modification stuff in the way I'd love to see our brush capabilities go (when we can directly paint with objects/patterns/etc). I believe (easily) loadable sets of options, presets, and brushes will really help foster more community contribution. Some people may not know how to contribute, but, they may be very artistic and willing to give back. This seems to be the case for every other program with loadable brushes and such. I'm not married to any of the above ideas or even believe that this is the best way to go, for the most part I'm just throwing a bunch of ideas out there to stimulate more conversation about this. :) Also, is it my imagination or does this seem like a prime candidate for the live path effects? I will add items from the discussion to a wiki page once the conversation has built up a little more (and other thoughts/ideas are out there). -Josh

Inkscape roadmap for 0.46 and beyond

Hi all, I think I've mostly finished with the reworking of the roadmap. Thank you to everyone who has provided ideas or critique: http://wiki.inkscape.org:8080/wiki/index.php/Roadmap This shouldn't be taken as gospel, of course. It's likely that tasks will need to be resorted as we move forward, but I think this gives us a starting point to plan around. Two factors I've tried to account for in the prioritization are first, that we have a goal to achieve SVG Mobile (aka SVG Tiny) support by version 0.50, and second that developers are going to want to work on separate aspects of Inkscape in parallel, rather than everyone focusing on one area for one release. Thus I've added categories in each section to roughly define what these different areas are, and have attempted to avoid putting too many tasks in any one area. Please feel free to re-prioritize or elaborate on any of the items here. It would especially be nice if we could more distinctly call out lower level tasks for some of the higher level task descriptions, so that new developers can more easily find things defined well enough for them to work on. Also, linking to mail archives or wiki pages with more info about the tasks would be quite helpful! If you adjust priorities, it would probably be better to move things *later* than earlier. There's no problem with planning to do things far in the future but actually getting them done early! But if we put too many things into 0.46, it could get a bit overwhelming. One of the things that's gotten really clear is that if we really do want to get SVG Mobile support by 0.50, then we're going to need to start thinking about cutting ground on Animation. Fortunately the spec only requires "Basic Animation support", with a subset of the features, so it sounds pretty doable if we give ourselves plenty of time and do some really good brain storming on it. For 0.46, we could focus on conceptual definition - what we want, how it should work, and so forth. I know a lot of people have good ideas on this, so it's probably going to be mostly a matter of getting those ideas recorded and organized, so future prototypers have something to inspire and guide their work. pre2: drop-down lists in extensions on windows broken

I cleared all previous installs and reinstalled pre2 on this winXP machine, but it does not help: in Effects > Generate from path > Pattern along path, the two drop-down lists are empty and cannot be opened. Alan, thank you for pointing this out! Finally something neat from illustrator. :-) This is a bit different than node sculpting. It doesn't require a node selection. There is a cursor with a center mark and an area delimited by a larger circle. As the user clicks and drags the paths are updated in real time. only the area within the larger circle is updated. And the amount of update seems to taper off toward the edge. There are various effects which can be applied to the current path. My take: we could do something like this by partially applying our non existent live effects to a path within an adjustable sphere of influence. Aaron Spike

Crash bugs

Crash with bitmap font

I have found that inkscape crashes when opening file dialog (File->Open, Save, ...) if sans-serif font is a bitmap font. I did tests with freetype 2.2.[01], fontconfig 2.4.2, pango 1.15.5 and inkscape 4.43 and svn, but this is old bug. I have tracked down using gdb that this happens when application calls 'pango_ft2_font_get_face(pFont)' in function 'font_instance::InitTheFace()' in file 'src/libnrtype/FontInstance.cpp'. This happens not every time but only with bad 'pFont' parameter, so application can start but crashes with 'internal error' when opening file dialog. It doesn't write to console anything usefull. To test this, in file '~/.fonts.conf' add <alias> <family>sans-serif</family> <prefer> <family>Helvetica</family> </prefer> </alias> in '<fontconfig></fontconfig>' section (and chech that 'fc-match sans' says 'Helvetiva').

Hello, my name is Federico Miliacca and I'm a student of engineering at the University of Roma "La Sapienza" in Italy. I'm to leading a bachelor thesis about the Animated Vectorial Graphics under INKSCAPE. I would have to realize a module that modernizes in real time the color of the edge and the background of the present objects on the canvas of job. The objects will have to be simple rectangles or circles. In the days it passes I have analyzed to the code source and I have characterized many interesting rows (repr-io.cpp - attribute-record.h - share.cpp - etc) in order to understand as INKSCAPE manages the rescue of the objects and to understand here like capturing the same objects from the memory. I asked if you could kindly clear to me as INKSCAPE represents the objects in memory and which rows are use you for this rapresentation. Then I would want to know what you can advise to me in order to realize this module that must read to the label of an object or its id and modify edge and background reading the data from a DBMS. unclumping

Hello, I'm Romain, born in France. I'd like to contribute to this great project, so I just subscribed to translator and devel (I study computer science), and started working :) I am working on translating fuzzy messages, and I found the message "Unclump tiled clones". I figured out that it was the message corresponding to undo pressing the "Unclump" button when making tiled clones. But when I try this button, the clones become closer and closer, that's quite different from "spreading out", isn't it ? Did I miss something or is it a mistake in the implementation of the unclumping process ? Maybe I didn't understand what clumping is ? Thanks for your help, Romain

Hello all, LGM2007 is about to be launched in full force with PR and so forth and I'm hopeful that someone from Inkscape-land would step-up to help be the contact point for LGM2007 activity for Inkscape. I'm locking down Open Clip Art Library and helping with the conference, so want to get someone else involved with mobilizing the troops and trying to get as many Inkscape users and developers to Montreal May 4 - 6, 2007. I had tried recompiling gtk to a lower version just a bit ago, again to no avail. Then I moved "preferences.xml" to "bob" and it worked like a charm. Sweet! Problem with gtk?

I've had a problem with inkscape fairly frequently when I start it the first time after starting X (I use XFCE on gentoo). It doesn't happen every time, but frequently, and if I restart X, it usually goes away. The problem is that I can't actually edit anything on the canvas, whether I open a new file or an existing one. All the buttons and dialogs behave correctly - except they don't do anything on the canvas. Is this a known problem? It's persistent for me through several versions, and I'm using both .44 and .45-pre1. Right now, however, I've just upgraded to XFCE4.4 and gtk2+-2.10.9 and I can't edit the canvas at all in either version, even after rebooting the whole computer. I'm not sure if I should recompile inkscape, but it doesn't seem right (I upgraded gtk from a previous 2.10 version, not sure exactly which). I searched bugs and didn't see anything like this. First, does anyone else who cannot make it have any good slides they would like us to show at either the booth or BOF ? Especially on advanced features ? Booth notes: 1) Let's remember to bring a digital camera this year to post some booth photos (I'll try to remember to bring mine). 2) Any luck with drawing tablets ? 3) I'll bring my old LCD projector - does anyone have a better one ? 4) Let's all remember to bring power strips. 5) Does anyone have a 19" monitor ? The second preview release of Inkscape 0.45 is now released. The changes between pre1 and pre2 are mostly translations plus a few bugfixes. Hopefully we will not need any further pre-releases before the final release. Yes, this would be superior functionality. Also, would be good for the color of the mask outline to correspond to a generic layer color. So, similar to illustrator, each of our layers should have corresponding selection color which we could use for this type of notification. Also would be great to have ui to allow for selection of this layer selection color. What do you guys think? There are two issues that must be addressed in the next prerelease. 1. We need GTK at least version 2.10.7. Reason: in that version they fixed bug which causes a pretty bad crash in Inkscape: 374378 Crash as GTK tries to blink cursor in defocused spinbutto... Take the latest from http://ftp.gnome.org/pub/GNOME/sources/gtk+/2.10/. 2. We really need to package numpy (numeric python) with python on windows, otherwise the perspective extension does not work. Clearifying labels in an extension's UI are now defined in INX like: <_param name="cmdlinename" type="description">The description</_param> The external program, e.g. python, is called with a list of commandline options, among which: --cmdlinename="The description" I think this is not desired and that there are no cases where this cmdline option is actually used. funcplot.inx for example has a huge description parameter. The description isn't really a parameter; should we recode this to enable a syntax like: <_description>The description</_description> Or <label> or something else. (underscores to make it translatable, which is sometimes not necessary, e.g. in the case of funcplot.inx's help function listing) The easier solution is to add a check whether the param is a description and not add it to the cmdline. This would also benefit the notebook parameter whose cmdline text is also often superfluous (the cmdline specification of which notebook tab was selected). Implementing this is peanuts. Ideas? Johan

Numerical input of node coordinates

Hello Inkscape developers. I recently started looking at how to add support for numerical input of node coordinates when editing a path, and it seems it will be a bit trickier than I initially though. My first question is how would you want this feature to work? There are two approaches that I can see: * Inputs in node editing tool bar - Values are updated while dragging a node? - Values are updated when a node is released after dragging? * Inputs in a dialog - Dialog is shown when double clicking a node? - Dialog is shown by pressing a button in the tool bar? After mentioning this on IRC, it seems the first approach is the favored one. So a couple of questions regarding this approach: 1) What's the best way to make the node editing tool bar aware of what goes on in nodepath.cpp (node selected, moved, N of selected nodes et.c.). Can I fire off signals and the tool bar will see them? The approach that the select tool bar uses to get notified of object modifications does not really seem to work for this (though I'm not sure). 2) Is it really important that the input values are updated _while_ dragging a node (like with object dragging), and not when dragging stops? (Latter seems easier to implement). Any advice and pointers from people more familiar with this part of the Inkscape code is appreciated, since this is my first stab at hacking Inkscape and I might be poking at the wrong places. I've noticed a number of places in the codebase where people have been painstakingly building SVG path strings by hand. There had to be a better way. And now there is: Inkscape::SVG::PathString. It accumulates SVG path operations and is convertable to a Glib::ustring. Inkscape::SVG::PathString str; str.moveTo(0, 0).lineTo(100, 0) .lineTo(100, 100).lineTo(0, 100) .closePath(); return str.c_str(); (You don't have to do all the operations in one go, but you can if you want.) Check out the before and after of using it in sp-ellipse.cpp: http://svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/inkscape/inkscape/trunk/src/sp-ellipse.cp… So, the next time you're tempted to break out a raw SVGOStringStream (or worse, sprintf) to build a path string, consider SVG::PathString instead. -mental

Status of inkboard feature

What is the status of the inkboard feature ? Is it considered stable ? More importantly, is it considered safe (from a security standpoint) ? We had requests in Fedora to have the feature enabled and so am doing some testing on my side. Whoa. What? Yeah. Here's the deal: the new-style (Inkscape::)XML::* APIs were originally created with the intent to allow alternate internal document representations. For instance, one document might have a simple in-memory document based on in-memory XML::SimpleNodes, while another might have nodes backed by a remote database (with its own wrapper XML::Node subclasses). This ability would be beneficial for things like inkboard, as well as properly implementing DOM. The problem is that the continuing use of sp_repr_new prevents us taking advantage of this ability. As long as nodes are created independently of the document they'll ultimately be added to, all documents have to be using the same node classes so that nodes are interchangeable. So, the plan is to begin creating all nodes via XML::Document::createElement, XML::Document::createTextNode, and XML::Document::createComment. In theory you should be able to get the right XML::Document * from the parent node you intend to attach the new node to (via XML::Node::document), but because of the behavior required by sp_repr_new, not all parents are guaranteed to have a valid document, preventing us from doing things the simple way. So, right now, you've got several places you can potentially get the required XML::Document * from, in order of roughly decreasing preference: SPDocument *, using sp_document_repr_doc() SPObject *, via the SPDocument * you get from SP_OBJECT_DOCUMENT SPDesktop * (SPView *), via the SPDocument * from ->doc() SPEventContext *, via the SPDocument * from SP_EVENT_CONTEXT_DOCUMENT Thankfully, it won't be this bad forever. Once sp_repr_new is gone and some other changes are made, we'll be able to get document pointers in more convenient ways. -mental

This release is intended for beta testers. There will be no further functional change between this and the 0.45 final release. Hi, Here are some problems I see with an hour old 0.45-release-branch install (Fedora Core 6): 1. Installation fails with error: make[2]: *** No rule to make target `about.bg.svg', needed by `all-am'. Stop. See same problem with trunk. 2. Page format: Banner 468x60 is actually 60.0 x 468.0 px 3. Could not set custom page size (perhaps because of installation problem). 3. Envelope (aka Summer's Night) effect seems broken (also broken in SVN and 0.44). The generated path is not inside the target quadrilateral. I seem to remember that the y-axis was flipped internally at some point... could this have broken it? The effect also generates error messages of the following type: ** (inkscape:20971): WARNING **: Unimplemented style property SP_PROP_ENABLE_BACKGROUND: value: accumulate ** (inkscape:20971): WARNING **: Unimplemented style property SP_PROP_ENABLE_BACKGROUND: value: accumulate ** (inkscape:20971): WARNING **: Format autodetect failed. Patch for 0.45: Tangoified icon

Hi fellow developers, there is one "patch" in the tracker[1] I would like to know if it can be included in upcoming 0.45 version. It is tangoified icon by Andreas Nilsson for Inkscape, based on a cleaned version of the official logo. The reworked icon looks really nice imho and it would be good to have it in. It can make Inkscape fit the currently redrawn gnome-icon-theme (and not only this one, but it fits well among other icons on other desktops like MS Windows or MacOS X). Besides the good look, I see another advantage also that it can be more easily recognisable on light as well as on dark backgrounds then the actual one. So, what do you think? Inkscape is being cross-compiled to Windows three-times a day, and the resulting packages are being uploaded to Modevia's Inkscape site (thanks again, Mike!). Hello, I have a problem with the about screen. The blurs seem to be clipped and there is nothibng I can do about it. Looks like the blur problem is still persisting on my system (altough it's a clean install of 0.45 pre0). I attach the about screen file, along with another SVG (10.svg) showing the same problems and screenshots of the way these files are rendered on my system. Can anyone not having this blur rendering bug undertake the about screen finition please? - redraw the glare under the sharpest ball so it look normally, not as if it was clipped. If you don't have the same rendering as me, then just try to resave the SVG and send it to me, I'll see if the file saved by another system shows differently on mine... - slightly unblur the sharpest ball so it looks more realistic (now it's set to 3.5%, and needs to be reduced to 1-1,5%. does inkboard work?

Thinking back, I can't remember successfully sharing a document since the rewrite of inkboard. I have on occation been able to connect to google talk and chat with the embedded pedro client. Today I installed a local wildfire server to remove as many variables as possible. Now I can't even connect. Inkboard gives "login: no second SASL challenge offered by server." So my question is this. Who has gotten inkboard to work recently? And how did you do it? Aaron Spike

Hi all, ACSpike and I have created the release branch for Inkscape 0.45. With this, we are now ready to move to into Feature Freeze. All further release work (translations, tutorial updates, bug fixes, etc.) will need to be done on the release branch. "plain svg" is 1.2 not 1.0

saving as plain svg creates an svg document that claims to be svg 1.0 and yet contains things like flowRoot and flowRegion from 1.2 Is there any way to flatten an inkscape document to plain valid svg 1.1? Its a bit inconvenient to have to use "convert to text" on each text flow in the document

Effect->Color->Brighter

Hi, I am having trouble understanding the logic of the Color Brighter effect. The Color Darker effect is quite simple... it takes each RGB component and multiplies it by 0.9 resulting in moving the color 10% of the distance towards black. I would have thought that the Brighten effect would move a color 10% of the distance towards white. Instead it has logic that changes Black (0,0,0) to (10,10,10), any R, G, or B value less than 10 to 11, and any R, G, or B value greater than 10 gets divided by 0.9. This results in a greater change, the brighter the source color. A simple replacement for the current Brighter effect would be: r=int( (25.5 + 0.9 * r); g=int( (25.5 + 0.9 * g); b=int( (25.5 + 0.9 * b); One can see easily see that these equations have the right limits for what I would have expected. arrowhead color bug

Arrowheads that remain black regardless of line color remains a problem. There are various bug postings for this - some showing closed others showing open. All have been given a priority of 5. Yet this is a real usability issue. I've tried to look at the code without success but it seems that the arrowhead takes the alignment from the line so it should also be able to take the color. Can someone have a go at this before .45 ?

Alt-Click shortcut

Currently Inkscape uses Alt-Click for various things (select-under, randomize star, etc.) However, generally this shortcut is taken by the desktop environments. In fact we have a bug in our tracker and in Ubuntu's tracker: http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1250110&group_id=9… It is possible for the user to recover this shortcut for Inkscape by disabling it in the desktop environment's configuration settings, but this has the obvious downside of disallowing the shortcut for other programs beyond Inkscape. In playing around with it a little, I notice that Alt-Ctrl-LeftClick appears to produce the same behavior as Alt-LeftClick. Since Alt-Ctrl-LeftClick is not taken by the desktop environment, there is no conflict. Thus it would seem that we could address the bug easily without any code change to Inkscape, by simply altering the documentation to indicate use of Alt-Ctrl-LeftClick instead of Alt-LeftClick. For users who prefer the Alt-LeftClick behavior, that will remain working so no functionality is lost. What do others think of this approach? Bryce

Buildtool fix

Hi, Everyone who is building on win32 will want to 'svn up' and recompile buildtool.cpp: g++ buildtool.cpp -o btool Johan pointed out a bug to me where the .mo files in /locale were being copied to the wrong place. That is now fixed. This is -very- important to have before 0.45. Thanks, Johan! bob

My question is therefore: should this be done in future and be committed to SVN? Maybe only for this release for the last time? Schedule for 0.45 release branch

For this release, we're doing things a little differently in that we'll be tagging the release branch earlier in the process than usual. This is primarily to enable developers not focusing on the release process to continue with development work. During hard freezes we require use of the patch tracker instead of svn anyway, so it shouldn't hurt to return svn to regular developer access anyway. So, we're planning on tagging the release branch this weekend - perhaps as early as Friday. The main requirement is that we want to be able to pass 'make check'. Ideally, I'd like to see us pass on all platforms (Linux, Win32, and OSX), but at least we must pass on Linux. Bryce

NEW: perspective extension

I have committed the Perspective extension from our patch tracker. Like Envelope, it morphs one path to fit another path with 4 nodes, but it does it differently using with perspective distortions. One thing it requires is the Numeric Python package. Since we're carrying our own Python on Windows, can we add it to the package too? Otherwise this extension is unusable on Windows. I cannot 'make' Inkscape with gtk210 because "-I$(GTK)/include/cairomm-1.0 \" is missing in the include paths. When added it works fine, for the first files, but compilation stops at /dom/io/socket.cpp (plus i get a GLIBMM_DLL redefinition warning for a lot of files) Also, I tried the latest build from http://inkscape.modevia.com/ and it crashes when the global pref window is opened. Lots of build problems right before the release :S Note that when I do 'buildtool dist' I get no errors and a nice working Inkscape distribution (that does not crash on opening pref dialog), but with the locale language files not properly copied. 1. Inkscape 0.45-pre0 released

This is the first pre-release of Inkscape 0.45. The purpose of this release is to give packagers a package to test their procedures on, so we can identify where problems are in time for the pre1 release. Much work still remains before Inkscape 0.45 can be finalized. Pending contest. * keys.de.html is empty. This file was missing, and I created a 0-byte file just so make distcheck will pass. There is a bug in the bug tracker about this. * For win32 there is a new 'buildtool' for building Inkscape, however the dist packaging notes in Wiki still reflect the old build approach. Postscript input extension and skencil

Hi, The current PostScript input extensions are dependent on the skconvert utility (it uses pstoedit -f sk to produce sketch format), itself part of Skencil, a "competing" (? :-) ) vector drawing project. As the Fedora inkscape maintainer, this dependency is somewhat problematic. From a distribution/packaging perspective, it is difficult to justify a hard dependency between inkscape and skencil as skencil is itself another desktop application and also fairly large. It is also somewhat non-intuitive and confusing to the end-user (and as a side-note, skencil might be dropped eventually because it's still based on gtk1). Now, I would still like to have PostScript import work out of the box as that's a feature that was requested by several users. So my questions: why the skconvert dependency ? Are there any alternatives ? pstoedit has many output formats (such as plot-svg using GNU libplot), is it possible to use a different one to achieve the same result ? -denis

interruptible display

Hi, While testing current Inkscape from trunk I immediately ran into a feature that can easily be perceived as a bug: dragging a gradient slider on 200/400% I see rectangles inside an object come and go all the time. On #inkscape I was told that this is the result of interruptible display introduced to improve responsiveness. My guess is that users might not understand that this is a feature. I see two ways to minimize public confusion: 1. Provide a better explanation in Release Notes. 2. If possible, make this behavior toggleable, ideally -- introduce a Xara-like "Rendering tradeoff" slider ;-) What do you think? Alexandre

Hey there developers... I'm really sorry for how overly-complex I'm probably making this. Hopefully my reasoning will make sense. Following are the top voted items in order of most to least votes. As I figured would happen for the voting (which is why I asked for a "runner-up" vote), we had a tie for a number one pick. The interesting thing is the difference between including the secondary votes... #3 becomes #1, and one of the two that tied for first (#1 in the single) becomes #4. For note, I will be asking the artists for the runner-up entries if we can get them to create screenshots for us with their work. So either way the work won't be "lost" and will be on shown. Release Wardens for Inkscape 0.45

Every release we identify two 'Release Wardens' for the release. We invest these two individuals with nigh-absolute dictatorial authority over the codebase until the release is cut. This way, we as a project can benefit from the control of a central authority temporarily in the critical phases of a release, while being able to remain freeform and decentralized for the vast bulk of our development phases. The pair is always composed of one person from the prior release, and one new person. Aaron Spike was one of the wardens for 0.44, and so would be welcome as the senior warden for 0.45. I would like to volunteer as the junior warden for this release; although I've always been involved in releases, I have not served as a warden before. Bryce

I've been giving bounding boxes more thought, and it seems like there are actually three different kinds of bounding boxes required in Inkscape: - GEOMETRIC: the bounding box of the path data, without stroking -- this is what the SVG standard means by "bounding box"; it is not reduced by clipping - INTERACTION: the bounding box with stroke, plus (maybe) visual things like the filter effects region; it _may_ be reduced by clipping - VISUAL: the bounding box with stroke, _including miter joins_, and things like the filter effects region, it has to be be reduced by clipping The idea is that GEOMETRIC will be used to satisfy the SVG specification, while INTERACTION defines the region that a user can "grab on to", and VISUAL defines the region within which e.g. all affected pixels fall. -mental
