Hi, another thing I just stumbled across: A couple of objects like filters, LPEs, gradients, etc. have something like this in their build methods: /* Register ourselves */ sp_document_add_resource(document, "gradient", object); ... and the corresponding code in the _release() method. printing broken!

The new print dialog looks impressive, but it does not work. I choose print to lpr and nothing happens (ubuntu 6.10). It worked fine before the last overhaul (about a month ago). Print preview button also does nothing, just closes the print dialog. Printing to file also fails to create any file. Well that symbol I gave was just an example of the BZ2_bzCompress@...1849.... @ notation. But yes, I would like to compile it without bzip2 support, but I'm not quite sure how to do that on windows command line. Do I use the source code from the bzip2 website or off the MingW/MSYS website? Do I compile on the windows command line? or in some other more linux friendly shell? or even in linux itself? MSYS uses a different runtime all together, its not supposed to be used for non-MSYS apps. RSVG dependancies

Hi All, After bulia's earlier comment about the possibility of rendering SVG previews with RSVG, I did some investigation. I think this *is* the way to go. Already I've got cairo working very nicely feeding graphics into my preview pane. librsvg looks pretty straight-forward as well. I'm having a slight problem adding the rsvg dependency. It seems that the version of the lib in the bundle has been compiled with bzip2.dll as a dependency. I can't possibly see why it would need to support that, but if we were to add bzip2, that only adds another 60kB. Problem is, I can't find a version of bzip2 which will play nice with librsvg.dll because the exported symbols in the my MSYS version of the dll that I have, are of the form "BZ2_bzCompress", but librsvg-2-2.dll imports "BZ2_bzCompress@...1333...". Where do the DLLs in the bundle come from? Could librsvg be compiled without bzip2 support? or Is a version of bzip2.dll with the correct exports available somewhere? and can I get that dll before the next bundle is released? because I don't want to wait for months any suggestions? But for the rest of the inkscape icons - like the drawing tools etc, the windows users will want the tango icons for these as well, simply because they're very much more in keeping with the Windows style. Problem with Native File Dialogs for Windows

Hi All, It's been a very long time now, and I'm so close; but I've got one last (possibly fatal) problem with my native file dialogs for windows project. I've been having problems with rendering the preview image in the side bar (last time I spoke to this community, the consensus was that preview was a requisite for the feature to be included). Basically my problem is that inkscape only seems to support loading, and rendering an SVG in the main UI thread - anything else causes it to die. But also only the main thread can handle Windows messages. So I can get the SVG to render into my preview pane, but during rendering, because the rendering occurs in the main thread, the UI locks up until the rendering is complete. Given that calling sp_document_new to load the file blocks for 100-600ms, and rendering takes 200-1500ms for practical SVGs, the code that I have can hardly be called an upgrade! I'm just wondering, is there *any* way at all that the preview document can be loaded, or the document rendered without making a blocking call? or is there any way that this could happen in worker thread? Because as you can see from the screenshot (attached) almost everything else is working perfectly, and the whole thing is looking resonably slick. Also it'd be great to be able to get this feature in, because last time I counted (in the old sourceforge tracker), it would close no less than 8 bugs in the tracker. Any suggestions? Joel

Global snapping toggle

Hi, More than once it has been requested to implement an easily accessible toggle for snapping, be it either through a key-binding, menu-item or icon in the toolbar. This is very easy to implement now we have such a toggle (which is currently only accessible through the document properties dialog). If we add a menu item, we could put it in the view-menu below "Grid" and "Guides". Should I add it? And is there maybe a better place which I overlooked? We don't really need an icon then, or do we? Difference Between Print and Print Direct

Hi Everyone, I was just in the process of fixing a small problem with the parenting of the Print dialog to stop it sinking beneath the document window, and I noticed something that I don't quite understand. What's supposed to be the difference between "Print" and "Print Direct"? - because right now, in terms of code, the menu options do *extactly* the same thing - that is show the print dialog, and allow you to print. Is Print Direct about to become a useful feature, or has something odd crept in here? Thanks Joel Holdsworth

BUG HUNT

Almost as exciting as the about screen contest is our other release tradition: The Bug Hunt! Starting today, our goal will be to fix 500 "points" worth of bugs. High priority bugs are worth 9 points, Med are 6, and Low 3. We also now have 'Critical' bugs. We'll give 12 for those. In the past we've found the Bug Hunt to be a fun way to work towards getting attention on bugs that have otherwise been languishing in the tracker. We only give points for true bug fixes - not bugs simply closed due to being dupes, invalid, worksforme, or whatnot. Previously we would count fixes to the website, translations, docs, and so on, but this time let's award points only for true code-level bug fixes. While our Frost goal is to close 500 points worth of *any* bug, when we get to Freeze our goal will be to have 0 Critical bugs, so efforts put into closing Crits will be doubly good! Good luck everyone; I'll post the first scoreboard tomorrow. Problems trying to Compile Inkscape on tiger PPC

I have been trying to compile Inkscape on tiger ppc last night without success. I have been following the steps described on: http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/CompilingMacOsX When I tried to install al dependencies using sudo port install cairo +pdf boehmgc gtkmm intltool libxslt lcms popt poppler boost gnome-vfs Freezes when appears: ---> Building dbus-glib with target all there is no error but it's have been there stopped for hours, If I take a look with the activity inspector I can see that process is consuming 0% of processor. any advice?

Tango icon theme, take 2

It's nearly finished as far as I can tell, still missing some 3D box icons but I don't know what they should look like. Major changes since last version: *all icons are done *changed look of raise/lower icons *"tweak" tool uses "smudge" icon from art libre set *transform icons taken from art libre set *align icons taken from art libre set (or extrapolated from their style) problems: ink pressure/tilt settings don't show (but the old ones do for some reason) some icons are taken from the desktop's icon theme and so the layer icons should match the ones in the layer dialog but don't match on all platforms same goes for paste icons like paste in place that don't always match the look of the generic paste icon. download link: http://grosberg.michael.googlepages.com/home

Inkscape 0.46 Frost (and Frost Exceptions)

[Also posted to http://www.inkscape.org] We've made huge progress towards the Chill goals, and are now ready to move into the Frost phase. Development is winding down, although we are granting a few frost exceptions to allow continued work for another week or so in specific areas (see below). 'make distcheck' issues have been sufficiently resolved (thanks Ted and Aaron!) Bug report triaging has gone smashingly well. The About Screen contest has kicked off. We still need to put some attention into the release notes, tutorials, and other docs, but I doubt there's any issues preventing us from moving ahead. In the Frost phase, our objectives are as follows: * Complete frost exception development work. * Focus should be on bug fixes, packaging, documentation, and translation work, all of which may be committed to SVN normally. * Gain some candidate submissions for the About Screen contest. * Release Notes should be >90% filled in. * Bug Hunt (details TBD) * Post inkscape-0.46-alpha.tar.gz The length of time we stay in Frost mode is driven by how long the Bug Hunt takes, but is expected to take on the order of a few weeks. The Frost Exceptions for remaining features are as follows: 1. Angled guidelines, by J.B.C.Engelen (ETA Dec 23rd): Underlying code is complete, and guidelines are rendering, but it needs a UI to allow manipulating them. 2. Python module packaging (lxml, numpy) for OSX, by jiho (ETA ___): Needs wider testing. Needs someone to build PPC packages. 3. Compilation of lib2geom on OS X 10.3 (Panther), by John Faith (ETA ___): An error is preventing builds for Panther versions of Inkscape. If this can't be resolved before release, the alternative is to drop support for this OS version. 4. Font Spec Implementation, by Gail Carmichael (ETA Dec 27). Refactor patch to include some code review changes by Bulia. Also, the patch needs wider testing. 5. Win32 Uninstaller improvement, by Adib (ETA Jan 3). Fix current installer to not bug user for each changed file. 6. PDF, PS export improvements, by Adib (ETA Jan 3). Implement blur as bitmap, and display a dialog with options for text-to-path, blur-as-bitmap, alpha-as-bitmap. 7. Clone Tiling dialog, by Tavmjong Bah (ETA Dec 23rd): Add a few options to Shift, Scaling, and Rotation tabs. Also some small changes for default values for turbulence and composite filters. Feature changes in SVN for things not on this list should be done on a branch. Any feature work not in this list committed to SVN during the Frost period may be reverted by any developer. Bug fixes, translation work, documentation updates, and packaging development may continue to be committed as normal, no permission needed yet.

Truetype Collection fonts

Just wondering, Does Inkscape see Truetype Collection (.ttc) fonts under Linux (fontconfig)? I was pointed to one here: http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/gentoo/distfiles/mikachan… I installed it (into ~/.fonts) and it's name does not come up in the list in the font chooser. >From what I can tell, Gimp does not see it either. I might not be seeing it in the list, but it's named 'mikachan' and I don't find that. I am trying to see if it's worth building support for them into Fonty Python. \d

Hello, There seems to be a template problem in 2geom which is preventing OS X 10.3 (gcc 3.3) from compiling. (Bug 51870) Bug Tracker =========== * In the future, Launchpad will offer projects and distributions the option of automatically expiring bugs that have an "Incomplete" status, are inactive and are unattended. This feature is not yet active. However, project/distro bug overview pages now offer a report that shows which bugs would be automatically expired, were it enabled, and a notice is now displayed on the bug page for any bug that would be affected. Bryce Ubuntu Greasemonkey Scripts --============[o]============-- The ubuntu-gm-scripts project collects useful Firefox GreaseMonkey scripts that assist Launchpad bug triagers in working more effectively and efficiently. Installation ============ GreaseMonkey is a Firefox extension for adding macro-like capabilities to do javascript-ish things on top of certain web pages. This tool helps by appending the person's karma score after their name. As well, team membership can denote experience/involved-ness, so this tool also appends icons indicating for some teams that the person is in. This is helpful for flagging comments/flags from the bug triaging team, core developers, and so on. As there are a LOT of teams in launchpad, most of which you may not care about, only a select number of teams are included by default. You can customize the list by editing the Javascript as follows: * In Firefox go to Tools->Greasemonkey->Manage User Scripts * Select LP_Karma_Suffix * Click the Edit button at the bottom, and type in the name of your preferred text editor. E.g. "/usr/bin/gedit" or "C:\windows\notepad.exe" * Scroll down to the 'team_handler' function and find where the teams variable is defined, then add a line with your new team. For instance, to add the Inkscape Bug Team to your list, modify teams to look like this: var teams = { 'inkscape.bugs':'', 'motu-swat':'', 'bugsquad':'', 'ubuntu-core-dev':'', 'ubuntu-dev':'', 'ubuntu-bugcontrol':'', 'ubuntumembers':'' }; * [Note that the team must have a 14x14 icon defined with it in order to see anything. This can be set by a team admin via the 'Change branding' link on the Launchpad team overview page.] * Save and exit the text editor, then go back to the Manage User Scripts dialog and click OK. * Reload some pages to see the icon. :-) Launchpad Stock Replies ======================= When processing through a lot of bugs, often you wish to make essentially the same comment over and over again, such as, "Thanks for reporting this blah blah... Please attach foo.log, so we can..." This script helps avoid a lot of retyping or manual cut-n-pastes by providing a way to store your own canned comments in Firefox itself. It then adds links for each of your canned comments right above the "Comment on this change" field, making it convenient to select a stock reply to send. To add new stock replies, click the [+] link, which will bring up options to add or save stock replies. Add New Stock Reply: name A tag id for the reply. (Avoid punctuation) comment Sets the comment field to this value status Sets the status dropdown to this text key assign Assigns the bug to this launchpad username importance Sets the importance dropdown to this text key package Sets the package field (if it is present) to this text Save Stock Replies: After making additions or changes to any of the replies, click this to save the changes. CTRL+D Broken?

I'm using a SVN version compiled yesterday and CTRL+D, ALT+D and SHIFT+D don't work. Instead of the expected functions it changes the tool selection to the color picker. I'm about to file a bug, but I wanted to double check if anyone with the current svn revision has the same problem. Regards, Gez.
