Hi, I have to admit that I have little real understanding of signals in Inkscape... How does one trigger a re-cascading of styling and a redraw when ever the content of the style element (XML Repr) is changed? I see that there is a: SignalObserver::notifyContentChanged() function but I am clueless as how to use it. Thanks, Tav

mouse cursor spins forever, sort of

After our users use Inkscape for a short time, the mouse cursor turns to a spinning ball. * The cursor remains a spinning ball even outside inkscape and even after inkscape is closed * This hasn't happened after using any other program (gimp, office, gedit, browsers, terminals, etc.) * It happens without fail when we use Inkscape, but see "More info" below. * If there is a pattern regarding when the cursor turns to the spinning ball, I have yet to figure it out. That is, it seems to happen at any time: while editing text, or adding a box, or adding a spiral, or moving something, etc. The weird thing is that when I take a screenshot, the cursor looks normal in the screenshot. In order to make an image of the problem, I had to take a photograph of the screen. Dear all,. It is one of my biggest gripes that whenever I close a file Iḿ working on the program closes and I have to start it up again, waiting for my 200+ fonts to load, having everything initialise etc. It's utter bollocks. Why not just close the file and display a grey field until you start a new or open an existing file? Have it ready for a new bout of creativity? You want to close it? Press Alt+f4 or click the cross in the top right corner (it's not a win10 installer is it?). And yes,.. tabbed files would be very welcome, so those of us that do more than just dabble around with it to check for bugs can just open a whole project in a single instance of Inkscape and start dragging and dropping objects from one file to another. Oh that implies multiple open files displayed at the same time. That would enable us to easily access files with symbols or reusable objects or check their content, make template files more accessible, easily collate a whole project into a multi page document and so forth. There is a plethora of use cases for that. Not to mention avoiding having multiple instances of the same application cluttering your task bar not showing what file it is due to lack of space. Click this one? Rats!! Wrong one.. This one then? Argh... Next,.. etc. If you like me tend to work with about 10 open instances of Inkscape while working on a new project, it can be useful to spread them around multiple desktops, but it would be nice if you could have it tabbed and multiple instances at your hearts desire. Would also be easier on the screen estate. Cheers, Jelle

Hello, I just want suggest some cool features, maybe some exist but i don't know where. - Add jpeg export, for the moment i open gimp for export png to jpeg. - Add size template for biggest screen size one by ratio 4x3 5x4 16x9 etc. - in addition a feature for export for several size from size template for the same ratio with check box for select which we want. What do you think about these features ? It's the goog place for talkl about that and for doing this king of proposal. Thx and sry gor my en. J.

Minor deselect behaviour inconsistency

Hi there! C R made me aware that deselecting nodes in 0.92 can be done not only with Escape key, but also by double-clicking with left mouse button on empty area. This is in contrast to 0.91 and earlier versions, when a single click made that happen (which was quite annoying to be honest, so I'm happy for this change to happen in 0.92). However, the Select Tool still uses single clicks to deselect objects. Is this inconsistency intentional...? Doesn't it make sense to have double-clicks to deselect objects just as is the case for nodes? Cheers, /Olof

Gtk3 Migration Hackfest

Hi, The Inkscape Board is considering sending a group of Inkscape developers to the Gnome Users and Developers conference (GUADEC)[1] to work on the migration from Gtk2 to Gtk3. The conference takes place in Karlsruhe, Germany. The core conference is from August 12th-14th. Hackfests are scheduled August 15th-17th. Before we can decide on sending developers we need to: 1. Identify which Inkscape developers could go. Developers should have some basic experience with Gtk2 and Gtk3 programming. 2. Identify who the developers would work with (which Gtk experts at GUADEC would be available for help). 3. Which migration issues would be tackled. Release 0.92 plan

A year ago we kicked off a rapid 0.92 release, but turns out it wasn't so rapid! But I'd like to re-kickoff 0.92, with renewed hopes of getting through the remainder of the release process swiftly. The main thing the release got hung up on was the cmake transition, but at this point it's actually close to done and I think we can proceed. We've accumulated a lot of nice features for this release. Local copy of gtest

Summary: If we want to run tests in the PPA, we probably need to include a copy of gtest source in our repo. Any objections? Hi All, Are there any objections to bundling a copy of the Google test framework source code into our trunk repo? At the moment, we provide the download-gtest.sh script for grabbing the gtest source from upstream. However, this presents a couple of issues: 1. It's obviously dependent on a network connection to the upstream packages being available 2. We can't run the wget download in the Ubuntu builder Can I suggest that we simply adopt a copy of the gtest source? Are there any good reasons (e.g. licensing) not to do this? I'm generally not keen on repo bloat but AFAIU it's generally considered good practice to bundle test frameworks with project source code. AV

Just two notes: - Spacebar switches to selection tool (toggles back and forth between current and selector), so the key is not free. - There are expert users at inkscapeforum.com who routinely recommend turning off snapping to gain speed improvements, so there is probably something to it (I never noticed anything, but my drawings are not very complex usually). Hi Friends, I just was wondering something. Keeping in mind, as many of you know, I'm not very technically oriented. So this could be totally impossible. But it seems like it might be, and I guess it can't hurt to ask. I'm often doing a lot of node editing, and often snapping nodes to a pixel grid. The part that slows me down the most is positioning the mouse pointer precisely over a node, to be able to click it (select it) or move it. Would there be any way to give Inkscape an optional feature that would snap the mouse to something - like have it snap to nodes or handles? I mean, snap the mouse pointer that is not dragging something yet. The snap of the mouse would have to be disabled by the selection click, I guess, so that you could move the node. Well maybe there's a better way to accomplish this? Since recent versions (I think 0.91 is when I first noticed it) you can make the nodes and handles larger. But I find that blocks the drawing too much. I've also tried making the Grab Sensitivity bigger. But that doesn't seem to affect selecting nodes. And yes, I definitely drag a selection box, when possible. But often it's not possible. Of course I would be open to other ways, to make selecting individual nodes easier. But I thought I'd ask if it's possible. It seems like it ought to be possible. Actually, this could help people who don't have very good mouse control, to be able to use Inkscape easier. Oh! And it would be totally awesome for the mouse to be able to snap to a guide, because those puppies can be so frustrating to grab sometimes. Maybe such a feature would come under the heading of accessibility? Thank you very much, brynn

The fact remains, it would be great to see what you are about to select in real-time (or as close as possible). While I agree in general with your remarks C R, having tried out the feature awhile last night, the ability to toggle selection nodes heavily improves the situation -- If you select the wrong node just toggle it and continue the selection process. I am using v0.91 (pre-build) on OSX One way the behaviour may be reproduced is as follows: - open Inkscape/document - add guide - set empty labels with Guidline dialogue - save document, and close Inkscape - reopen inkscape/document - add label property value using SVG editor - set: result crash! Sometimes, it takes two edits to cause a crash. The key to reproducing this, is to save and reopen Inkscape/document. Also, I have an extension update for guides... that has options for labels. The script can write guide labels OK, but they are not editable in either the Guidline dialogue or the SVG editor. Trying to do so causes Inkscape to crash :( I do not want to file a bug report if this issue has already been flagged and/or resolved. I am searching the database, but haven't found it. Also, Inkscape does not render the guide color when the property is set via the SVG editor and/or an extension script, but at least Inkscape doesn't crash.
