Just a quick note -- in HEAD, I've removed the per-class submenus from the context menu and lumped the menuitems onto the main context menu. This still doesn't really fix the problems with the context menu, but at least it's moderately less crappy now. -mental

Order of modifiers: is this a HIG standard or simply "other apps do this"? If the former, well, OK. Otherwise, I like Ctrl-Shift better, because it seems to be standard on Windows, and besides it's more natural because it's the order in which most people actually press these keys (Ctrl, then Shift). So I'd like to leave this as is unless there's some strongly worded and convincingly argued standard on this. Key names: actually I wrote a special function (sp_key_name in interface.cpp) to translate from the ugly GDK names to normal ones. Mostly it replaces monsters like "asciicircum" by its character, i.e. "^", but also changes Page_Down. Reason: (1) it's overly long and unwieldy, (2) the "_" character is not really meant for user consumption, it's a programmer's device, and (3) PgUp/PgDn is standard on Windows. Nothing except that there were plans to switch us over to Gtkmm, so I postponed this until after the switch because I really don't know what is Gtkmm and how it's going to be different from the current code. However, perhaps the change will not be too drastic and hopefully automatic enough, so if you can work on dialogs now, that would be fantastic. Guys, When I attempt to compile the latest cvs running ./autogen I get the following message: I am testing that you have the required versions of libtool, autoconf, automake, glib-gettextize and intltoolize. Is it possible to admin the mail list so that there is a Reply-to: Inkscape Devel List <inkscape-devel(a)lists.sourceforge.net> header in the messages? In other words, shouldn't the default recipient of a reply be the list? Just wondering. Currently the replies are going to the sender by default. Bob

GUADEC 2004 (follow-up)

Hi, I am helping organise the graphics stream of GUADEC 2004, which will also be the occasion for the GIMP developers conference 2004. You have all received the announcement calling for papers for the conference because you are prominent free or open source graphics software projects. I may have missed some projects. If so, please forward on the announcement to their devel lists. Many of you have some links with GNOME already, and others are working towards interoperability with all major desktops apps, including GNOME. I hope that we can see some people from each of these projects in Norway, and take the opportunity to make some headway on graphics application interoperability, which is an area which seems to be somewhat behind the rest of the desktop. Additional binary packages for Inkscape 0.36

A number of people have submitted packages of the 0.36 release for various platforms, including Fedora, RedHat9, SuSE, and more. Most are compiled for x86, but an Athelon-compiled Fedora rpm and a Sparc debian package is available.
