libnr precision and maximum zoom

Following our year-ago sodipodi discussions, I tried to increase the maximum zoom. It did not work because at about 70x, paths were simply disappearing. So I went into libnr and simplistically replaced all floats with doubles and all shorts with ints. And it worked! Now I can draw at 256x and there does not seem to be any serious problems. I have uploaded the (very simple) patch to the patch tracker. Please test and report your experience. What should be done: - The patch must be reviewed by someone more knowledgeable than me. I don't quite understand what I did (even though it worked). - The precision of SVG files must also be increased. Currently it's 6 digits; will 8 digits be enough? - There are some nasty renderer bugs that are made more evident by this change. On a second thought, no, since floating toolbar still remembers its "native" window and reappears docked there when you close it, it's better if a toolbar always stays local to its window, no matter docked or not. dockable toolbars

First, WOW! I did not expect the toolbars to be dockable so soon. Mental, you rock :) Second, if we want to make a release with this dockability, there are a couple of things that must be fixed asap. - We need to decide if floating toolbars are to be shared among documents (as are dialogs), or stay local to each document. FOr the latter, it's a simple sp_transientize call on the floating toolbar window so it becomes transient to the current document. For the former, it's a bit more complex, see any of the dialogs I did recently for the code. I think floating toolbars must behave as all other dialogs, i.e. be always transient to the current document. We'll also need to remember in prefs their docked/undocked status, size and position. - Both toolbars must either be not resizable (perhaps easier in the short term), or they must reflow the buttons so they all fit. Now you simply cut them off when resizing. - The secondary toolbar needs more material and more cosmetic work. In selector, its buttons should be divided into three groups by small spaces or dividers: group buttons, z-order buttons, rotate and flip buttons. Do you think I could start putting material into the secondary toolbar now, or should we better wait for Gtkmm? I want it to have at least a few non-button controls for the release so that people can have a better idea of what it's for. _________________________________________________________________ Tired of spam? wiki updates -> help menu + similar applications

I've added two items to the wiki. 1.) Under "User Interface Discussion," I added: "Help Menu." I laid out how the menu is currently, how it could possibly be changed to look, and also possible additions to it, to make it a "real" help menu. 2.) "Similar Application" after the "External Links" button. I went out on a limb and decided that we need screenshots of other apps functional parts. I guesss under these app pages, people could also list any feature(s) they really like as an abstract attempt to sway developers to add that functionality to Inkscape. Please post any screenshots, or links to screenshots, or links in general to other vector apps on the appropriate page (or make another one). I would like to help out with the help as soon as I can. I'm about done adding all these bugs to the bug tracker from sodi, and then after that, I would like to look into being the major player in helping with the help menu. Feature freeze soon?

How would everyone feel about a feature freeze on Friday, with a release as soon as we feel it is stable enough and all the critical bugs are fixed (hopefully within a week or so)? Also, how do we stand on the following bugs? Are some fixed or do they still need attention? * Fix bug: on quit, still says I have unsaved changes, even though I saved [swingincelt] * Fix bug: can't open compressed svg unless it has .svgz extension. [swingincelt] * Fix bug: autodetect fails if no extension is added to filename (.svg) [swingincelt] * Fix bug: save as/save should use "SVG with xmlns:sodipodi namespace" as default * Fix bug: files are sometimes erroneously saved without the extension namespaces (typically the first time) [tgould, mental] Thanks, Bryce
