Hi all, Could someone take the time to explain on our wiki how to compile Inkscape "out-of-source" on Linux/Ubuntu? Such that all object files and whatnot are not put in-between the source files in /src/ but in a separate folder, say /build/. Thanks a bunch! Johan

Synfig exporter extension

I've finished working on the first iteration of the SVG Synfig exporter. The essential features are there and a lot of bugs are fixed, so I think now would be a good time to consider including a copy with Inkscape. I committed the files into a personal branch of inkscape: "lp:~nikitakit/inkscape/svg2sif". (Disclaimer: I'm a git advocate and don't know much about bzr) My work was all done on Ubuntu natty with Python version "2.7.1+", testing against Inkscape 0.48.1, Inkscape trunk build, and a large collection of OpenClipArt files made with various (older) versions of Inkscape. It would be good if someone could test it on Windows and Mac (especially if the python versions are different). ~Nikita

Documentation

Hi, I've gotten back to trying to get more documentation straightened out and filled out. Some architechtural overview, getting started type details, etc. Does anyone else want to lend a hand? :-) Or more importantly are there any specifics I should look into filling out? That is, any areas people want me to look into, or any aspects that need special attention, etc. Thanks.

corrupt SVG or bad Inkscape parser?

When I edit a camel image from OpenClipArt.org, and save it with Inkscape, the resulting SVG becomes corrupt. Bad Camel http://www.openclipart.org/detail/7474/camel-silhouette-by-johnny_automatic I'm not sure whether this image is corrupt or whether Inkscape has trouble parsing it. Hello Arcadie, my suggestion was to drop default predefined points, as the whole outline would be an infinite set of possible connection points. When ever a user drops an handle near to the outline, an instance of an connection point would be generated, positioned on the outline path next to the place of dropping the handle. This instance would hold a float which indicates the relative position of the connector on the given outline. eg.: float pos between 0 and 1, a value of 0.5 would define a position on the outline path half way between the start and the end of the path. This placement would be valid and appropriate even if the object gets scaled. As a result no predefined points are really necessary. One could build the outline out of different paths and maybe additional single point paths and only allow a subset of them to accept connectors, to specialize the objects behavior. But that would depend on the objects intended behavior and would be specific to the objects template. Open SVG talk and Release notes for 0.49

Inkscape with Visio style connectors

Something that's been missing for a while is the ability to set arbitrary connection points on objects so we can use visio style workflows with connectors doing more work for us. May I draw you collective attention to this demonstration video: http://divajutta.com/doctormo/inkscape-as-visio.ogv Here I show off a workflow hack (using nautilus as a stencil) and an genuine edmun scream style code hack to 0.48x branch mod'ing the connector-context code which you can find here: https://code.launchpad.net/~doctormo/inkscape/knot-visio It works by enabling rectangles inside groups to act as child center points. Each of the items you see me drag in the video is a group and each connector is a very tiny rectangle. I hacked it like this because now transforms also transform the new connector points and the amount of code I had to modify is quite small. It also fixes a bug with connectors where connected elements when grouped would not be able to be updated. I added a parent group transform signal catch for 1 level deep which should help with that. Anyway, as a proof of concept I humbly submit this idea to the rest of the developers here for review. Best Regards, Martin Owens

Hello to all! I'm new in the Inkscape world. My intention is to slowly get involved and at some point start helping with the project. One first question. I'm receiving mails from this list but sometimes it's an sanswer to a question that I didn't receive. That confuses me. Can someone explain me why is that? Perhaps a setting in the subscription or another reason?
