Mr Sonic, :-) Try deleting build.dep, then running buildtool again. This forces it to refresh the dependency cache, scanning the source directory again. This happens automatically when you do a clean build, but of course you don't want to do that every time. Commiting "big" .h files

Hi again. For the last few weeks, it seems that one of the "big" .h files has been committed almost every day. I mean files like verbs.h, document.h, effects.h, etc. I call these "big" files because they are important dependencies for a large portion of all of the source .cpp and .h files. What this means, is that people are becoming cautious of performing an "svn up" for fear that it will result in an almost complete rebuild of Inkscape each and every time. I don't know of any remedy for this (odd/even days?), since all new development and bugfixing is good. But it would help if people would at least consider the implications before they commit. bob

Temporary canvas items

Hi all, (Johan, I'm CC'ing you because you actively worked in this area a while ago) I'd like to use the temporary canvas item machinery to display some "info" related to LPEs. This info can consist of helper paths or perhaps even text (e.g., for LPEs measuring path lengths or areas). I've played a bit with it but I think I'm not using it in the correct/recommended/ easiest way, which sometimes even results in crashes. So my questions are: - How can I create a temporary canvas item to display a helper path having a given shape? - How can I display text using this mechanism? - If I want to make either the helper path or the text permanent (i.e., convert them into a non-temporary item and save them in the document), how can I achieve this? Hi, all, Actually, considering that the pre-existing Gtkmm dialog is not new, but is actually compiled along with the new native dialog, I would think that the possibility of using either should be simple. But making it runtime selectable rather than compile-time selectable is the issue, I think. There need not be a GUI for it, so there is no "user disconcertion" problem. (BTW, I don't look to Mr Spolsky's site for software wisdom). inkscape git mirror?

I'm interested in setting up a git mirror of Inkscape SVN; who's the person in charge of our server currently? We'll need to have a fairly current version of git, libsvn, and the libsvn perl bindings installed to do this. -mental

Weekly svn builds on debian sid @ http://art.sidux.com

Hi folks, This is just a heads up - I've setup a debian unstable (sid) repository at http://art.sidux.com/ - currently the only package is weekly svn builds of inkscape (as well as the sidux-art-keyring gpg pkg), including i386 and amd64 arches, plus source. My interest is part inkscape, part learning how to maintain a relatively complex debian package, and I'm learning as I go - I've been keeping it up now for > 3 months so I figured it's safe to announce - The intention is to eventually include development builds of various other tools useful to the sidux art team, but for now... Building unit tests on Win32

I uploaded a patch to the bug tracker that enables building of CxxTest unit tests on Windows. Basically it adds a target linkcxxtests that generates an executable that performs all the tests. The relevant bug is: https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/208821 There are two main points I'd like some feedback on: 1. Is the way I let buildtool generate the required .cpp files using cxxtestgen (see the compile target) acceptable? 2. Does anyone have a (big) problem with compiling (not linking) the (unit) tests as part of the normal build process? I added the cxxtest files to the normal compile target because it was easier that way (I had some problem with the dependencies if I did it differently) and because it will break the build if anyone breaks a test (which people really shouldn't do). Note that I'm only talking of compile-time problems here. As it is now the tests are not linked during in the normal link target, and they are definitely not executed. Jasper van de Gronde

OSX native compile error

l-system fern formula

I'm trying to draw fern pattern using l-system, I found a formula on a website that says you get this: http://www.home.aone.net.au/~byzantium/ferns/leaf34.gif if you use this formula(s): angle 8 axiom x a=n n=o o=p p=x b=e e=h h=j j=y x=F[+A(4)]Fy y=F[-B(4)]Fx F=@1.18F@...1985... (I separated rules with ; ) But the result I got doesn't match: http://img143.imageshack.us/img143/1948/fernmt4.png Is this a bug in l-system, or are these rules wrong, or am I using the effect wrong? btw the image I got was made with order 34 as the website suggested, but it takes a long while till Inkscape calculates it (nearly 100000 nodes), I'd suggest a much lower order for testing ;)
