Currently SVGFonts rendering in a helper GtkWindow is working ok for glyphs described using the path descrition ("path:d") attribute. Once we move the rendering to the canvas, arbitrary chunks of SVG will be added to the glyphs. Currently glyph kerning and missing-glyph nodes are also properly handled and rendered. I am using the helper GtkWindow because we still don't have pango+userfonts integration. So I am using cairo+userfonts directly on the GtkWindow. Once pango supports userfonts, I will remove the GtkWindows and render SVGFonts on the correct place (directly in the canvas). Since my work now depends a lot on this pango support, it has been evolving very slowly. I am thinking of doing some user interface work while we are stuck with pango. So, this thread is intended to discuss ideas and mockups on what people want to see for the SVGFonts user interface. Mental told me yesterday that it should be possible to edit glyphs on canvas directly on the rendered text in an "edit fonts" mode. I agree that this is the ideal thing to do, i.e. have things rendered in real time as much as possible. For example, when the text "Felipe" is rendered using an SVGFont and the user goes to "font edit mode", then editing the content of one of the "e" glyphs would make both "e" glyphs to be visually modified as if they were clones. That is the desired "real time" on-canvas bahaviour. But I also think that there should be an off-canvas glyph-editing user interface. There must be a dialog where the user can define the glyph-names, metadata such as font-family name and all the other font descriptors, the missing-glyph curves, and all of the glyph-kerning rules. Also, in this off-canvas UI, we could/should have helper lines indicating font metrics information such as base-line, top-line, etc. just like a font-editor would be. I also have in mind a unicode codepoint selector widget to be used for the u1 and u2 attributes in the kerning rules dialog. Please, feel free to offer new ideas or to say my ideas are crap or whatever. I am open to discussion. JucaBlues

Crash when applying patterns

Hi, since a short while ago, applying a pattern to a path in the fill/stroke dialog has led to a crash. I have found out that this is caused by invalid path data in share/patterns/patterns.svg which was introduced in revision 16619. Namely, there are stray minus signs (without a number following them) at two places in the code, like this: C -152.421,-34.897 -132.804,-34.567 -147.875,- L -150,-46.156 z (notice the isolated minus sign in front of the L). I committed a temporary "fix" by just inserting the value 999.999 for the missing coordinates (this makes it easy to find them in the file). Of course this messes up the patterns but I don't know the correct values for the missing coordinates. Bulia, since you committed the new patterns, could you have a look and properly correct them? BTW, were the paths created using Inkscape? In this case we should also find out why the invalid path data was produced in the first place. Max P.S.: Note that there still is another bug related to patterns which leads to a crash when you want to edit patterns using their knotholder handles. I wanted to fix it but it was shadowed by the new crash so I couldn't work on it. I hope to resolve it as soon as possible.

Import form openclipart

Hello! Inkscape has great feature to import clipart from openclipart.org, but if there is more than one picture inkscape will import the first one. Same time openclipart will show thumbnail of an image only if first uploaded picture will be raster one (eg. PNG). You can check it here: http://openclipart.org/media/files/wariat/8984 there is no thumbnail but inkscape will import SVG file http://openclipart.org/media/files/jean_victor_balin/8735 there is a thumbnail of a picture but inkscape will import PNG file, while svg is still available. IMO there is a bug on both sides. Openclipart should show thumbnail if there is a raster image on any position of a set. User should not think about this. Inkscape should import any file from gallery, so if there is more than one file in set, it should: - ask which one user want's to download (IMO better) or - show all images in import window. Crash in 2geom ellipse parsing

We've gotten bug #243232 that is due to an assertion in 2geom being triggered. terminate called after throwing an instance of 'Geom::RangeError' what(): lib2geom exception: there is no ellipse that satisfies the given constraints (2geom/elliptical-arc.cpp:616) https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/243232 Can someone familiar with that area take a look? path parsing - nartbpath optimization?

Hi all, When parsing "M 0,0 1,0 1,1 0,1 0,0 z", the old nartbpath optimizes it and stores it like: "M 0,0 1,0 1,1 0,1 z". The 2geom path parser does not. So when writing the path back to svg, nartbpath and 2geom don't match up. What to do? Should 2geom optimize the path as well? Or should the svg writer optimize it? Or keep it the way the input was?
