where does this belong? ("advanced" SVG coding)
by Brynn
Hi Martin and Friends,
The last link on the Books and Manuals page has recently come to my
attention, which is neither a book or a manual: http://www.learnsvg.com/.
Maren and I were discussing it, and thought we might need to put the
question to the devel list. But I thought well let's ask Martin first.
My first thought was to just drop it from the website, being about
much more advanced use of SVG than most Inkscape users would be interested
in. My second thought was to add another section to the Learn page, with
links to info like that (because I have a few more links to info on SVG
coding (including for animation, on my site, that could be used here). Or
if not on the Learn page, a new page for Learn menu, although I'm not sure
if there's enough info for a whole new page. Another one of our thoughts,
was add the link to the About SVG section of developer faq on the wiki.
And I think we're pretty open for other suggestions, as well. The
only thing I am sure of, is that it probably does not belong on the Books
and Manuals page :-)
Thoughts, suggestions?
Thanks,
brynn

Inkscape.org now using oauth2 for google
by Martin Owens
Dear Developers and docs,
Please be aware that because google are decommissioning their openid
services, we've moved the inkscape.org social auth login from openid
to their oauth2 service.
If you have trouble logging in using the new service, or find that
when you do, you have a new account instead of your original one.
Please let me know.

front page staging missing image
by Brynn
Hi Friends,
This is probably not very important, but just in case. The yellow
bars/ warning/under construction image is missing from the front page of
staging. I mentioned it to Maren the other day, and the next time I looked
it had been restored. But now it's missing again. So anyway, just in case
:-)
All best,

Needed: Board Executive Secretary volunteer
by Bryce Harrington
We're about to enter a busy period for the board. We've got the
hackfest coming up, a new charter to decide on and document, a board
election to hold, and more. I'm finding myself to be a bit of a
bottleneck for proceeding on these items - partly due to a need to
ensure everything's properly documented.
At Martin Owen's suggestion, I'd like to ask for a volunteer to help me
out with various documentarian tasks, such as:
* posting news items to the website about board activities
* formatting documents into HTML for the website
* uploading PDF documents to the website
* ensure meeting minutes are posted
* drafting vote proposals
* copyediting
You'll be working closely with me. I don't think it is going to require
a huge time commitment - perhaps several hours a week - but I do need
someone I can hand stuff off to and rely on to ensure it gets done.
In particular, you'll be helping me build out the Governance area of our
main website (under the About menu), with various legal documents,
policies, procedures, financial docs, meeting minutes, and so on.
If you're interested, please contact me off list.
Thanks,
Bryce

Website Language Additions
by Martin Owens
Hey WebDevs,
Now that Maren has fixed the language selection issues we were having/
Both the redirect on missing pages and the error with news and search
page urls with new languages.
We have the opportunity to configure a short admin side list of
languages. This is more of a feature request/definition but it would
work like this:
A list of all languages, their english names and their translated
names (just in case they're missing from the core pot) a checkbox for
if we want them to be hidden from the menu. We can do this where we
want auto detection to pick a language, but not display every language
possible in the menu.
(or we could have a 'more languages...' link at the bottom)
The service would still need restarting to take advantage of the new
language, much in the same way as menu updates have to refresh the
cache.
Thoughts?

Code of Conduct Vote
by Martin Owens
Dear Board,
The website's code of conduct text needs redrafting and formally
voting on. It should be a document reflecting the social norms we have
and that these would be in force on the website with moderation and
art submissions.
This is what we have so far, it's a bit of a fragment paste bin at the moment:
https://inkscape.org/en/community/coc/
We could do with the help from a friendly inkscape docs contributor to
draft it into something usable as well as the inkscape board to ratify
it with a vote.
Thanks for all your help.
Best Regards, Martin Owens

official tutorials titles, Tutorials page links
by Brynn
Hi again,
I'm sorry that I don't understand exactly how this works. But I
don't seem to have the ability to edit those official tutorials. I noticed
that some of their titles aren't quite right. As below:
Basic tutorial -- ok
Advanced tutorial -- ok
Shapes tutorial -- ok
Bitmap tracing tutorial -- "Inkscape tutorial: Tracing" should be "Inkscape
tutorial: Tracing Bitmaps"
Calligraphy tutorial -- ok
Elements of Design tutorial -- "Inkscape tutorial: Elements" should be
"Inkscape tutorial: Elements of Design"
Tips and Tricks tutorial -- "Inkscape tutorial: " should be "Inkscape
tutorial: Tips and Tricks"
Interpolate tutorial -- ok
Also, it looks like the links on the Tutorials page aren't made with
the plug-in. I'll be glad to get those ready today, if you like.
Thanks,

which faq should Help menu open/link to?
by Brynn
Hi Friends,
The FAQ item in the Help menu caught my attention just now, and I
notice it opens or links to the faq in the wiki. Since we now have a new,
and more user oriented faq on the website, I wonder if it should link there,
instead?
Thoughts, comments?
Thanks,
