comment glitch?

Hi Friends, Not posting bug report yet, in case this might be a known issue, or even a non-issue. I was just posting a comment in the gallery (contest section). After I posted, I wondered if I could edit, and I clicked on the comment number (#3). Then the comment just disappeared. I thought it had been deleted somehow. So I posted another comment. Well, of course, now the first comment has returned, as soon as I submitted the 2nd one. Maybe it's not a major issue, but just in case. Let me know if I can provide further info. Just tested on one of my own images, so I don't mess up someone else's image page. Submitted a comment, then clicked the comment number. Comment disappeared! Refreshing page several times over 5 minutes, it still is missing. I'll keep watching and refreshing, and after 15 min, I'll post another comment, to see what happens. Aargh, I lost track of time. So an hour later, now the comment is showing again. Maybe it's not a problem, but just in case. Thanks, brynn

contest deadline

Hi Friends, Nov 13th is the date being circulated as the deadline for the About Screen Contest. For some reason, I thought it was the 8th. I'm thinking it would be good to have the deadline date mentioned on the instructions page. And I would do it myself, except I'm not 100% positive that it's the 13th. If we can confirm the date, I'll add it to the page :-) Thanks, brynn

prevent email address as username on website?

Hi Friends, I was just looking at the gallery today, and noticed a new image that's been uploaded. And I happened to notice that the user name is an email address. Is there any way to prevent that? It seems like this has been briefly discussed before, but I don't remember which solution was proposed, if any. Or is it not considered to be a problem? To me, the use of email addresses for username is just another way for spammers to harvest addresses. So it just seems prudent not to contribute to that problem. (Or if nothing else, not to have a lot of spammer traffic). Thanks, brynn

about screen InkSpace description

Hi Friends, I was just looking at the About Screen Contest InkSpace page: https://inkscape.org/en/gallery/=about-screen-contest/ after Martin asked on the User list if people would test uploading on this page: https://inkscape.org/en/gallery/=about-screen-contest/about-test-contest/ And I noticed the description on the first page, which is: "When the Inkscape team and community is winding down development and preparing to release the next version we invite our artist users to help us make Inkscape stand out by drawing an About Screen. Our goal is to show off what the new version of Inkscape can do in an artistic manner. We don't have a particular theme, but it should be smart, attractive and show off the best you can do in Inkscape." I think the tone reinforces a separation between the user and development communities, so I suggested the following change. However, I would also welcome others to tweak on it, since I'm sure it could be improved even further. (And of course I can't actually perform the edit, because I don't have the right kind of access for that.) "Long time Inkscape users may have noticed that the About screen (Help menu > About) is different for each major version of Inkscape. Traditionally, when development is winding down, and just before each new version is released, the community celebrates by holding a contest to choose a new image for the About screen. The goal is to show off what the new version can do, in an artistic manner, as well as to announce the release (with flair???). Please see [link] for more information." So I eliminated any mentioning of separate communities, explained what the About screen is, and about the contest. I dropped that part about the theme, because it seems to belong more in the instructions for the contest. I don't actually know where the instructions are yet. But if this is where they are supposed to be, then of course it needs a lot more editing! And I added a link to the instructions or other additional info. Hello Inkscape people! I haven't been active around here for a few months, so sorry for jumping into the conversation like this! (I haven't read all the other digests so please excuse my lack of context.) I saw there's some talk about the English translation I started of the Floss manual in April this year (after seeing somewhere on the Inkscape website that we were waiting for the French manual to be translated). Elisa set it up on flossmanuals.net, and I translated the first few chapters (not the titles though, I didn't have access to them in the editor). Not everything was a straight translation, some things were more of an adaptation – sometimes I reworded/rearranged things to be clearer in English. Unfortunately a few weeks later I had to leave it because of work, but I see Sylvain has made great progress on it though! Sylvain, if you need a hand getting through the rest of the chapters, I can help again – just let me know which ones you'd like me to work on, to avoid editing conflicts. I haven't checked through the translations you've done, would you like me to? I'm a native English speaker :) Cheers,Hinerangi P.S. Hi Maren :) Yes a preconfigured virtual machine would be so great! I tried setting up a vagrantfile with the idea of sharing it with anyone who needed it (eg. Mac users), but got lost in the Django details :( Launchpad is also an unfamiliar tool for me (used to Github, Bitbucket, Gitlab, etc), so I really should take the time to get used to it (at least just the code/issues/pull requests). Hi Tuxun, Oh wow -- I didn't know we had 2 people working on the translation -- that's great! Thank you both :-) And thanks for the link. I'll keep track of it this time. How is it going with the translating? I guess we can only see what has been translated so far? Does the French version have a page for every item in the menu on the left? And we also want to make it more of a step by step manual, and more focussed to beginners. And this is as opposed to our current manual, which is copyrighted (can only be edited by the author), presently out of date, and a little more theoretical, and helpful for advanced users. It's a great manual, which has served the project well. But there have been a lot of complaints from beginners about a lack of documentation at their level. So we don't want to get rid of Tav's manual, but just have another manual available. The current state of those discussions is to use a project which was started by a French team (aaii, why can't I remember to save that link?!). It's another FLOSS manual. We're waiting for it to be translated to English. And once it is, we hope to be able to use it as a base to build the new open manual from. Maybe you might like to help with that? Also, some of her ideas will help us with the forum project too! And I'll be letting the committee know about that privately. So, welcome back Mihaela!
