file open/save dialog

Hello! I noticed that if you have several Inkscape instances, and you fire up a file save or open dialogue with one of them, you cannot close those other instances until you close this open/save dialogue. Help with more grid problems

Hi, My next grid problem is this: 1. Turn the grid on. 2. Draw a 1x1 square on this grid using the pen tool. Note that the nodes of this square are snapped to the grid. 3. Scale this square using the handles and stop when the scale snaps near a size of 2x2. Now that square's nodes are no longer snapped to the grid. AFAICS this is because the scaling makes use of the sp_item_bbox_desktop(), which includes line widths. It suggests to me that the only way to solve this problem is to have a second bounding box function that considers nodal positions only. Then this could (optionally) be used for scaling. Any thoughts? Have I missed something? Thanks Carl

Hello there! Well, I was thinking that, what if a preview was available in "open file" dialogue? I know you are using a default gtk dialogue. But maybe you can tweak it to have a preview, ala GIMP 2.0? Providing shortcut configurability for only one shortcut is confusing (why not others?). Also, snapless drag also needs to be enabled for node tool, not only selector. As for a bbox/nodes snapping configuration switch, on a second thought I think it might not be necessary. If you want your nodes to snap, you just switch to node tool and do it there. In node tool you can even move the entire object by its nodes - press Ctrl-A to select all nodes and drag any one. The only thing you cannot do in node edit is scaling (although this may become possible in the future, see RFE 910817), but for scaling, you usually want to restrict the overall bbox, so the current selector behavior is appropriate. Something I was planning to do since long ago... * The document window layout is completely configurable. Via the View menu commands, you can show or hide menu, top panel, toolbox, rulers, scrollbars, and the statusbar.
