Proposal for a spanish inkscape-user-es list

There's been a proposal to create a new list for Spanish speakers. Does anyone have any comment on this before I set it up? Also, I'm thinking that for language-specific user lists we should require at least 3 people pledged to using the list before we set it up. Does that sound okay? Updated win32 gtkmm libs

Gtkmm.org announced their 2.8 release today. Since this one includes a bugfix for exporting Gtk::TreeViewColumn that we need, I built Glibmm and Gtkmm for our win32 bundle. It also includes the recent updates to Cairo 1.0 and Gtk2.8.3. It is here: http://inkscape.org/win32/gtk28-050908.7z This win32 build was made with it, if anyone would like to test it: http://inkscape.org/win32/Inkscape0509081439.zip Win32 builders probably would want to keep their older copy of the library bundle until they know that the newer one works. I've implemented a gtkmm'd replacement for the About dialog, which includes the now-standard "License" and "Credits" dialogs, a-la Gnome. The "Credits" dialog includes all the authors and translators (it's easy to add a "documenters" tab too). Right now, the license and people lists are hard-coded in src/ui/dialog/aboutbox.cpp, but I'd like it to load from "COPYING", "AUTHORS", and (the new) "TRANSLATORS" files instead. That'll come next. :) To make the TRANSLATORS file, I made a quick dump of all the translators I could find in the po/*.po files. Arpad, is this a "correct" list? I did a quick sort on it by first name, since I just wanted to get something in there. There are strange width issues with the gtkmm'ified canvas view. I'm sort of just working around it at the moment. Hopefully this can get straightened out as we move more stuff to gtkmm. Also, can someone more familiar with memory allocation in gtkmm look over my code and let me know if I did anything silly with pointers/allocation? (Oh, and I disabled the "show license" verb since that's now part of the new about dialog.) -- Kees Cook @outflux.net

First commit of DOM source

This morning I committed most of the DOM source to src/dom. I spent the rest of the morning removing warnings, and getting the compile to work nicely on win32. I will add the Makefile_insert when I get a chance. Until it is hooked up to the autotool tree, it should not hurt anyone's build. I included the .idl's, so that people can see how the main .h's try to follow the w3c specs. Now that it is committed, its glaring unfinished-ness will coerce me to work on it until it is done. :-) Bob

Pen shortcut, xywh precision

There are two RFEs that I want to do something about but not before I hear people's opinions: http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1167787&group_id=9… I agree that Pen deservers a better F-key shortcut than Shift+F6. But I also need the freehand drawing (F6) very often and don't want to demote it. However, I found that straight up conversion of SPDesktop to ::Edit to be difficult; I attempted to do this in one all-at-once conversion but it quickly unravelled into a mess. I think the best approach is to do the conversion a piece at a time. Start at an easy point and work your way in. The place I found to start was with converting SPView to C++. I've got this about half done, and it'll be fairly obvious what's left to do. After that, it may make sense to go ahead and knock out conversion of the SPViewWidget class next, since that's not too complicated. Since SPDesktop derives from SPView, having SPView in C++ is the first step to convert SPDesktop. Next thing would be to start converting SPDesktop into a C++ class. Next move the file(s) to their proper final location. Finally rename SPDesktop to Inkscape::UI::View::Edit. I found for the renaming, that it helped to create a typedef. Note that there are some forward definitions of the class that get in the way; I wasn't sure if it was better to remove them or to try to refactor them. Ultimately, though, at some point you have to just start going through the whole codebase and rename stuff. problem with menus.xml

I've just realized a rather big problem with menus.xml: it tends to freeze the menus in the state they were in at the time menus.xml was created. If we release with it in its present form, it means that users may not see the benefits of future menu reorganizations. -mental

NEW: tool cursors
