Hi all. I had suggested updates for the old doc on Floss Manuals and Maren let me know about the new project. I’m a technical writer and have been using Inkscape more and more recently. I see there are a number of open proofreading issues, I could certainly help with these but if there are higher priorities, let me know. Vector vs Bitmap page

Hi, I'm a Belgian CS-student at the UCLouvain and for our open-source course we're asked to contribute to such a project. While I'm figuring out how the source code is put together, I'd love to help make a webpage explaining the differences between vector graphics and bitmap graphics (as requested here: https://inkscape.org/contribute/to-do-list/). FLOSS for Science podcast

Hi, I started with a colleague the podcast FLOSS for Science [0] with the goal of showcasing free, libre and open source software uses in science. We want to highlight how FLOSS empowers researchers and enables them to produce high quality research. Through each of our episodes, we want to showcase a scientist using FLOSS to produce his/her research or the developers of software used for scientific research. inkscape.org offline since last night (probably)

Hi there, could someone please have a look at what's wrong with inkscape.org? Last night, when I went to bed, it was too slow to respond, and now it's just plain offline (ping works, though). As the only email from OSUOSL lately was about random reboots, maybe the reboot didn't go well? Maren

problems on Around the Internet page

Hi Friends, Per the commitment I've made to regularly review the Around the Internet page (because it's jam-packed with 3rd party links); my current review finds a couple of problems I'm not sure how to handle. So I need some input from the community on these. https://inkscape.org/en/community/inkscape-around-internet/ In the Multiple-Artist Collections section: 1 -- Wikimedia Commons - Category:Created with Inkscape (http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Created_with_Inkscape) The page which is linked is showing a red-colored sort of warning about how it's categorized. Half of the page is giving info about it. I'm not very familiar with how the Wikipedia/Wikimedia pages are created or edited, so if this is a problem which needs to be fixed, I can't do it. Maybe it's ok the way it is, but I thought I would ask those who know more than I do about it. As best as I can understand the warning info, it sounds like the page might need some significant attention. Questions: a -- Is this something that should be added to the Community To-Do List page on the Inkscape website? b -- Or maybe it's a quick fix which someone could do in the near future? c -- Or should the item just be deleted from Around the Internet page? d -- Or is there a better link to access the Inkscape images on Wikimedia? 2 -- Museum of Sodipodi and Inkscape About Screens (http://gould.cx/ted/ink-about/) The linked page gives a 404 Not Found error. Just one question: a -- I guess I've seen a lot of the About screen contest images in the gallery. Is this the best URL for finding them? https://inkscape.org/en/gallery/?q=about Or is there a better one? Thanks for comments or suggestions :-) All best, brynn

major update to Report Bugs page

Hi Friends, As a result of my comment and concern about a long "warning" message which was meant to remind bug reporters about what kind of info needs to be included in the bug report, details here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/1774404 and also, it was the first time I realized that Help menu > Report a Bug goes directly to the Report Bugs page of the website (https://inkscape.org/en/contribute/report-bugs/) which in it's current state does not really perform as that kind of a function (it's more informational than instructional), Patrick and I have overhauled that page. We wanted to put the proposed change to the website team, before setting it live. Here's the proposed new page (of course the red text at the top would be removed before going "live"): https://inkscape.org/en/report-bugs-2-edit/ Purposely, the link to LP is at the bottom, to force users to at least skim through the bolded requirements before starting the new report. Any comments, suggestions, etc. are welcomed. Thanks, brynn (and Patrick) PS - Just realized we probably should put some kind of inspirational "thank you" sentence at the bottom. "Thank you and congratulations for contributing to Inkscape" or something??

Website menu is buggy

Hi all, For some time, I have noticed that the menu of the Inkscape website has become buggy, whereas I had spent some time to make it work very well and responsively some time ago — :/. Could someone tell me what is the intention behind this change (which from my point of view is a regression)? Some of the bugs: * the main menu items font size does not diminish if the texts are too long to fit on one line (case in French, in Deutsch…); * there is a small black line between the submenu items (which might not be a bug, but that wasn’t the case before); * in the smallest view, the main menu items have wrong spaces between them and wrong rounded borders; * in the smallest view, the submenu items overflow of the menu box; * in the middle view, the black background is missing, there are also wrong rounded borders, and the submenu items appear with a wrong space between them and the main menu item. gallery layout changed

Hi Friends, I'm not sure if this needs to be reported as a bug or not. I noticed the new little banner about donating for next hackfest, and I wonder if it has something to do with the change in how the gallery is layed out? Normally for me the gallery has 4 columns of images, but now it's 3. Screenshot: https://inkscapecommunity.com/jd/ss/gal1.png Vertically, the little banner is in the space where the 4th column would be. So it seems like the banner might have pushed the images over (so to speak). I also noticed the search box got really small. Not sure if that might be related. I'm using SeaMonkey browser, in case it matters. Let me know if you want a bug report :-) All best, brynn

Hi Friends, If anyone happens to be following it, I've been discussing the need for some kind of reminder for people reporting bugs, to include the proper info in their report, in this bug report: https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/1774404 As somewhat of an aside, I realized that Help menu > Report a bug, connects directly to that page; and also that the page really is not set up properly to be part of the route or process for reporting a bug. I think the page originally was meant just to provide info, and not necessarily be part of the process of bug reporting. So I thought I would create a proposed edit for that page. The reason I'm posting this message, is that it's been so long since I've done any work on the website, I can't remember the proper way to do this. Because it will be a fairly major edit, I was thinking I would make a new page, just to have some working space. I'm afraid if I edit the actual page, someone might accidentally publish the page, before it's finished. I'm almost positive it should be ok to start a new page. I do recall that I need to take it out of the menu, immediately after I create the page. I don't expect the page itself will be used in the end. When it's finished, I'll just overwrite the current page, and publish that. And then delete this new page. If there's a better way to approach this, please let me know. Meanwhile, since I'm pretty sure this will be ok, I'm going to already get started. Thanks, brynn
