Hi, maybe we can use something from this tool: http://www.simplifiedcomplexity.com/blog/mgalvin/a-complete-self-contained-… I don't like Java very much so I'd prefer to rip something out :) The list of output formats sure is impressive though. Cheers Colin

splitting user manual

Howdy, I'd like to start adding some new content soon. Do we have common agreement to split user manual into chapters and use <XInclude> to join them? If we do, I'll go ahead and do it. Also, why do we use lang="en" attribute everywhere in inkscapeUTFen.xml? Colin, I think we need a simple Makefile to create HTML version (at least HTML). Since my bash mojo is not so cool for last couple of years, maybe you could have a look? ;) Alexandre

Send this questions in innkscape-doc too. My answer : Yes i write in docbook directly but it's horrible and i think the developer are sadism to use docbook for tuto and manual. Your fisrt patch, you can send here in inkscape-devel. We see after who see it and who commit it. Do you know make patch ? You can send the patch in txt. Doc book editor : i use kate or kwrite. None, but recent feature since 0.44 should be quite well updated. From this time Release notes are quite well described by developer so that i used it as a basis for french. And the question is : do they need to match exactly ? I'm Joshua Facemyer, I speak English and a tiny bit of French and an even tinier bit of Latin and nothing else (thank you, wretched US school system!) I do know a couple of Polish and Spanish words... I've used Inkscape since right after the fork from Sodipodi. I use it for a small graphic design business along with Gimp and Scribus and other small programs. I wish I knew more so I could be a "power-user", and that's why I'm helping with the docs. I don't code much, just a very small amount of web languages. I read the dev list and watch development closely, but understand little of it :) I actually have been conversing recently with Mental, so imagine I'll be able to rely on him for help understanding some stuff if I get stuck - but not too much, since the devs are busy doing dev stuff. I'm interested in doing translation to get the En manual in sync, and writing new parts in English. I don't mean to be presumptuous, but if I can contribute consistently, I wouldn't mind leading an English team that works in conjunction with the French team - but if someone else is doing this, that's better :) JF

I posted a couple of messages to the dev list, but didn't get much of a response. Can someone tell me where I can begin to help working on documentation? I know it's not always pleasant working with a noob, but I learn quickly and can be a lot of help if you point me in the right direction :) I'm willing to work on anything, wherever I'm needed most.
