I've just updated the Interface overview image in the Interface Chapter in the FM Inkscape Manual to reflect the interface for version 0.47. I've used a similar style to that used in the latest incarnation of the FM firefox manual as I thought that style looked really good and descriptive. Any comments/feedback? Cheers, John

Working with Files Chapter

Hi, I think I've finally sorted out the working with files chapter, as discussed with Joshua I only included the most commonly used file types and moved all the rest to the Glossary. Feel free to check it out and tweak it where necessary. I also wanted to discuss the use of diagrams in the manual, I had mentioned this some time ago but haven't put much attention to it till recently when I was looking at the recently upgraded FM Firefox manual. I really Like the style and layout they use in the Interface Highlights/Overview chapter to give an overview of the firefox window and think that that would be a good style to use for the Inkscape manual. I appreciate any Ideas or Suggestion before I go and change all the graphics in the manual. Cheers, John

How's this list: svg (all variations could be mentioned in one spot) pdf xaml (is this available in any windows installation?) png bmp jpg tiff ps and eps dxf (seems to be pretty commonly used with cutters) xcf (gimp native format, definitely important) I think the rest are uncommon enough as to be incidental, and most of these are, I believe, available with a standard installation. We'll just have to weed out those that aren't. Thoughts? JF

Inkscape File formats

Hi Everyone, I've been trying to finish off the FM chapter on working with files, I want to indicate in the manual which formats Inkscape can load and which one it can save. After my last email to the list I started looking at the options on the open and save dialogs. I found some interesting results. some file types I could load or save in my Ubuntu Linux version of Inkscape but not in the Windows version. There was one file type mentioned in the manual that I couldn't find in either the linux or windows version of inkscape (.dia), and there were several file types that could be opened or saved in either the linux or windows version of inkscape, but weren't mentioned in the manual. I'll add the last group to the manual, but what I would like to know concerns the other groups. 1) is there a plug-in that is needed for the .dia file type? 2) why are some formats only able to be saved or opened in the linux version of Inkscape? Are there certain components or plug-ins that are installed with the linux version that aren't with the windows version. I can send through a list of the file types in particular if that helps.
