Inkscape 1.4.3 is out!

Inkscape 1.4.3 ============== Inkscape 1.4.3 is now available for all three supported operating systems (Linux, macOS, Windows)! You can download it from: https://inkscape.org/release/inkscape-1.4.3 BUGFIX and MAINTENANCE RELEASE ------------------------------ Inkscape 1.4.3 is be a maintenance and bugfix release, which brings you fixes for many critical or irritating bugs, and even a few new features. The most important fixes and changes in this release are: * 24 crash/freeze fixes many of which prevented users from opening certain files or exporting certain objects with Inkscape 1.4.2 * almost 100 bug fixes and small improvements, among them: * JPEG/JPG export works again on Windows. * The problem with user interface text showing up as rectangles ('tofu') instead of letters if certain fonts are installed on macOS is finally resolved. * Ungrouping big groups is faster again. * All pasting options ('on page', 'width'/'height'/'size'/…) are now accessible from the right-click menu on canvas. * The Measure tool snaps again at its end point, so you can make accurate measurements again. * The LPE dialog now offers to convert Line, Polyline or Polygon SVG objects to paths before applying a path effect to them * When resizing the Inkscape window, the buttons in the Commands bar (copy, paste, open, dialog shortcuts) show up one by one instead of waiting for the window to get big enough to show the second half at once. * When converting strokes to paths, patterns and gradients are no longer lost. * Aligning on a circle or arc now works more reliably. * Text on Path now also works with rectangles. * Many improvements have been made to the PDF import. * Results from path operations no longer end up at the bottom of the object stack unexpectedly and the Split Path operation has learnt to better handle nested shapes. * The current layer by default is now the one where you have last selected an object (might need a preferences reset to apply). * Whether the current page is changed when you select an object on it has been made optional. * You can now make small changes to how Inkscape looks without needing to modify the full theme file. * The bug that sometimes made it impossible to make gradients and patterns fully opaque has been prevented from reaching adulthood (it has been around since 2007!). * and 25 updated interface languages as well as 13 updated documentation languages! Versions lower than Inkscape 1.4.3 will not be able to interpret pages created in Inkscape versions 1.5 and upwards. Opening a document in Inkscape 1.4.3 and saving it will convert it to the current ('old') page format. Background: While the 'old' format of pages in Inkscape is a custom addition that only works in Inkscape, the new format will make use of the svg:view element, which is standardized and can work in other SVG viewers, too. Inkscape 1.4.3 Release Candidate ================================ Inkscape 1.4.3rc(2) is now available for testing for all three supported operating systems (Linux, macOS, Windows)! Being a pre-release, this version is not intended for production use, but to help us smooth out any issues that should not show up in the actual release which is due in less than 2 weeks from now. Developer Meeting Dec 12th 2025

Hey devs, Big meeting today. Event: https://inkscape.org/cals/event/1/ Attending: Martin, Charlotte, Ltlnx, Marc, Mikekov, René, Pbs, Regie, Ishann, Tav, Vaibhav # The 1.4.3 Release ltlnx is managing the 1.4.3 release and talks about the task list which is almost entirely done. * One item to do is the versioning which Marc will take care of now. * Documentation is in sync. * all graphics are up to date * Martin says Extensions are out of sync and won't be up to date in time for the release. Ishann asked about it. * We will directly pull from the CI for RC build which is scheduled for today. * There is a signing step which is now integrated which improves the process. * Tav concluded his Bug Accelerator program with the fixing of startup crashes on macOS * 1.4.3 RC will e released tonight, and given to vectors to announce so we can get testing. Vectors have asked for an announcement time for the RC, dev team will make the builds and would like as much time as is possible for users to download and test the RC to pick out any major breakage from various updates to libraries and various fixes. Marc asks about website problems for the release. Martin reports that the website is unstable and sometimes works well and sometimes get slow. We looked at some of the remaining critical and blocking issues. Charlotte looked into the keyboard switching issue which may have been fixed upstream, we'll be keeping an eye on it for the release candidate. Other blockers have all been fixed and we look like we're in a good place. René didn't get much of a response for his tofu fix, but knows it's fixed because of other apps that have all been fixed in the same way. # Translations problems Maren brought an issue about possibly AI or automated updates for Swedish and how we handle that Marc says it's all settled. PBS raised a problem with po file being updated frequently which leads to massive submodule repository every time we pull in master branch and update the submodules. the frequency can be adjusted and the old commits can be squashed when needed to save space. 7d day frequency for weblate sync. # Funding discussions We talked about the meeting we had with the owners of Audacity and some of the interesting ideas for funding models. This discussion covered a lot of ground but has not been recorded in the minutes so people could speak their mind. # Any other business We talked about the lack of announcement messages in rocket chat, Ben has fixed the crontab but it's still not going through. Rene talked about sorting out some of the build folders to make it easier to manage changes and remove dead files. Thanks everyone for coming, Best Regards, Martin Owens
