We've gotten enough votes on IRC to pass this, but re-posting here to
make it official.
SourceForge seems to be extremely borked right now; all my emails to the
list are getting delayed. (As if we needed any further motivation to
get migrated... *sigh*)

Background:

The Vectors team is printing a hanging banner for Inkscape to be
displayed at technical conferences such as SCALE. Ryan Gorley has taken
the lead on getting it designed and printed. Similarly designed banners
will be created for other open source projects including GIMP, and
perhaps Darktable, Krita, Kdenlive, etc.
Previews of the final design can be seen here:
https://gitlab.com/inkscape/vectors/general/issues/29#note_61420053
The cost estimate includes funding for the printing itself, the hardware
to hang it, and packaging as needed. The labor for the design in the
amount of 30 hours is being sponsored by dijt.

[REFERENDUM] Budget 2018 (v2)
by Bryce Harrington
Re-posting budget for vote. This version has additional money allocated
to Hackfests, as suggested by Tav.
---
A majority vote of the current board members is required for approving
this budget.
Proposal:
---------
Allocate budget for FY2018 (03/2018 - 03/2019) following past budgets,
including allocations to funding pools for hackfest sponsorships,
development funding, and Vectors team marketing outreach as before.
| | FY2017 | FY2017 | FY2017 | FY2018 | Total |

| + Conferences | $1000 | | | +$1000 | $2000 |
| General Fund | $18414 | | $1661.95 | | $45732.29 |
[ ] a. Adopt budget as shown above
[ ] b. Revise budget with the following changes recommended:
_____________________________________________________
_____________________________________________________
[ ] c. Do not establish a budget for this year
Background:
-----------
During FY2017 our total assets rose from $41,746 to $74,826, thanks to
generous donors and sponsors small and large who provided Inkscape with
$37,728.90 in income. Our expenses in FY2017 were lower than in past
years, amounting to $4,648.80.
Our last hackfest came in well under budget. We are looking at doing
two hackfests this year and expect about half a dozen sponsorships;
we are offering sponsorships totalling $10,000 but expect the actual
expenses to be smaller.
The new Vectors team is very active and will be attending SCALE and
other events. They are planning use of their budget for printing of
handouts and signage for technical events. This budget increases their
funding pool another $100. The board will continue to review and
approve expenditures as normal.
FY2017 saw our first funded development work. We hope to expand this
program in 2018 with more projects funded.
We added a new fund last year to help cover travel costs to non-hackfest
conferences and other technical events. While this was not utilized
last year, we'll continue adding funds to it in hope it will be of value
going forward.

Re: [Inkscape-board] Inkscape donation
by Bryce Harrington
Hi Mr. Young, I can help you with your request.
We are able to earmark donations for spending specifically on hackfest
expenses - typically this covers travel and lodging sponsorships for
attendees.
For the written explanation, would an invoice be the type of
documentation you're looking for? Or are you thinking something more
along the lines of a description of the event, list of attendees, etc.?
As it happens, we have several Inkscape members right now at the
Southern California Linux Expo (SCALE), which runs March 8-11 at the
Pasadena Convention Center. Ted Gould, one of Inkscape's founders, is
presenting about Inkscape tomorrow at 11:00am. Other Inkscapers
attending are Ryan Gorley and Josh Andler. If you would be at all
interested, I'm sure they'd all be happy to chat with you.
https://www.socallinuxexpo.org/scale/16x/presentations/extending-inkscape...
One of the most straightforward ways to help Inkscape is to become an
Inkscape sponsor. It would be great to include your organization as one
of our official sponsors. More info is here:
https://inkscape.org/en/support-us/sponsors/
If you're interested in other, more directed ways of using funds to help
development, I have been working on setting up a process for sponsoring
specific development projects. I can give more info on this if you'd
like.
Thanks again for your generous donation!
Bryce

This is an interesting request. Does anyone have any good ideas about
how to be sure how money will be spent for hackfests?
I could say that the money will go into the pool used to transport
people and allow them to stay here in Boston?

Hello,
My name is Danny Young. I'm on the board of directors of ASIFA-Hollywood in Los Angeles. I'm our designated liaison with the open source community. We're interested in making a donation of $250USD with some of our funds earmarked for open source projects. The proposal is to donate towards the March Hackfest. Because this would be an international transfer for us, the board said it would be most comfortable if we could receive a written explanation of what specifically the money would go towards. As a non-profit organization these things go a long way towards keeping us in good faith with our membership.
If you don't mind doing that for us then I'd be happy to forward the info along to our CFO who could make the donation.
Furthermore, if you have ideas or suggestions as to how we can help support Inkscape and the open source community in general, please feel free to share that with me. I'd love to hear it. Thank you for your time. I hope to hear from you soon.
