Developer Meeting 2025-02-19 Event: https://inkscape.org/cals/event/64/ Attending: Jonthan, Martin, Mikekov, Siddharth Mishra, Tav, Elendil (Krlr17), Ishann Next Meeting: https://inkscape.org/cals/event/1/ Jonthan presides and introduces the meeting, letting people know the format for the meetings. Martin takes notes. Firstly we tak about Nueumburg. There is a process for reimbursement when coing to an event. It can take a number of weeks although we can book travel with the SFC. Although Mikekov would like to book their own ticket as it's a long flight with connections and they want to be able to have control over that process. After $75 per per person per night a partiipant might choose to book their own hotel; but will be required to cover anything over the baseline cost themselves otherwise people can stay in the group booking at the hostal. Jonthan was in touch with Tracy about getting the grants program off the ground. It looks like we could with basically real time access to information about what is coming in. We don't need a real time banking, just information about when emails come in from stripe and paypal which will give us a lot more information to be able to run fundraising campaigns. There's progress here. Bugfix accelerator, the hiring comittee is Jonthan and Floryan put out the call for applications and confirmations will be going out soon. Jonthan also worked on afdesign format support.Creating complex objects is producing good ideas for the filters and lpe structures in Inkscape. Martin has been doing PDF work, fixing various remiahing issues to get the merge request ready for review and testing. Glyph issues wih Chinese, raster images, markers and making a filter rasterizer that isn't dependant on cairo. Martin, Jussi, Jonathan ansd Tav has a meeting with the PDF Association about the quality of the PDF output we'll be aiming for and we were able to clarify a bunch of things in that meeting. Mikekov has been working on a replacement for the tab widgets used in the dialog panels. There were a bunch of issues with the Gtk default widgets we were using and since PBS has written a new implimentation Mikekov has been able to reuse it. Mishra s new and is looking into the project for doing Google Summer of Code has been busy recently but will be available the end of March. This would be a good time to check the projects list to make sure it's fit and if things should be removed or if you want to be a mentor. https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inkscape/-/blob/master/doc/gsoc/summerofcode.md… The developer team spent 15 minutes working on merge request reviews and deciding on how to unblock or categorise various code. The event starts on Saturday, May 24 (morning) and ends on Wednesday, May 28 (noon). Afterwards, you can opt to stay for LGM (May 28 - May 31), and I've reserved hotel rooms until Sunday, June 1st. Dear all, ==== Background ==== By popular request, I'm organizing another Inkscape summit in Nuremberg, Germany from Friday, May 23 to Wednesday, May 28; it's in the week of LGM (near Nuremberg Central Station, May 28 - May 31). Eligible to attend are all Inkscape members as defined by the Membership policy. In the past, Inkscape has chosen to fund conference costs, including venue, hotel, and travel expenses. More details: https://office.inkscape.org/nextcloud/index.php/s/qPNibLwCAbwpJ8a The budget covers a total of 15 participants for our own event (4 full days) and hotel costs during LGM. Until now, I've received 8 registrations; the list of participants already makes me optimistic for a productive summit - although I do hope that a few more participants will still follow! The summit has an estimated cost requirement of 15,000€ for up to 15 participants. Maximum costs for 16 participants, including full-board meals (5 nights), conference room (4 days) during the summit: 13,000€. (Based on the offers I have received so far, it will be closer to 9,000€) Hotel cost for 16 participants, including breakfast, during LGM (4 nights): 5,000€ Official Inkscape Dinner: 500€ In the past, the project has also offered reimbursement of up to 1000€ in travel / visa expenses, to be reimbursed to each attendee upon submitting of travel receipts. Note that there is no per-diem, as all expenses are included with the accommodations. Attendees are asked to choose economical means of transport as per SFC policy. As requested on the last vote, I'm increasing the limit to 1,200€. The vote is for 18,500.00€ in funds to be allocated up-front with the expectation that receipts for rooms, venue, and any remaining balance will be returned upon conclusion of the event. Up to a further 15,000.00€ in travel expenses, to be reimbursed after the event, under SFC’s net30 (days) reimbursement policy, to be refunded to attendees upon submitting receipts for these expenses to SFC. Dear all, Meeting: https://inkscape.org/cals/event/1/ Attending: Elendil (Krlr17), Martin, Jonathan, Marc, Ishann Elendil reports that the Bug tracking tasks have caused less burn out since there are more people who can help with the work. Jonthan reports that the Frankfurt event went well. The presence of Kristina from Inkstitch and the availability of the contributors to talk about text support made the event useful. Overall the event was fairly good from a cost perspective. There were organisational challenges with people arriving and leaving at different times but this was to be expected. A vote has been created for the next event. We're waiting on plc members to vote so we can continue with that work. There is a 14 day window for paying for the hotel so it is timely. We talked about the 1.4.x contract and what the next steps. Marcin Floryan is helping with the candidate selection steps and will be put into a mailing list with Jonathan. Marc did that task during the meeting. Martin has been working on PDF support and was contacted by the CTO of the PDF association and will be meeting with them to talk about how to make Inkscape more compilient and consistant with it's PDF output. For example with atomic stroke/fill operations. Marc hasn't been up to much since the hackfest. Finished the weblate server for translations. It has been recieved quiet well by the translations team so far on the chat, there are decisions about how it should integrate with our current workflow. Elendil requests that a specific fix for PDF input be fixed for 1.4.1. Do we have a release date for the 1.4.1? We looked at what vectors might have said in their last meeting, but found nothing related to the release. There are some pending backports that should be merged before we cut the release but we're otherwise ready to go as soon as those tasks are completed or rejected. We reviewed the specific fixes that we would need to bring over. Ishann contiued with the markers refactoring and will be working on further tests for markers. Martin has rebased his PDF work on top of that. Thanks to everyone who came to today's meeting

Dear Project Leadershiop, After the review period is now complete, I submit for vote the final text attached with the following details short description for the vote: I request a budget of $25,500 for 2 x 140 hours of engineering work targeted at bug fixing in the 1.4.x branch and 60 hours of administration targeting the issues, priorities, testing and merge requests of the 1.4.x branch. The recruitment team will be made up of Jonathan Neuhauser and one other Inkscape Member to be recruited. They will send out a call for interested and available workers to apply for one of the three positions. Reports and meetings as described in the attached document. Martin talked about various fixes in the past week as well as continuing work on the PDF exporter. There has been significant friction with upstream with font support and regressions for ligature support which is slowing things down. Martin also worked on color-font support in object-to-path after talking with Tav. The work is incomplete as the glyphs are not positioned correctly. Ishaan has been adding tests for the marker refactoring branch he's working on. Adding tests for paths with markers and bounding boxes and will next work on stroke to path tests. He asked about how to test markers in the stroke to path and we ended up advising Ishann to general small sp-item based pngs to test against before and after running the function. There was also a question about the size of markers in the object to marker and there were two possible problems. Tav suggested that it might be the stroke width itself and using UserUnits preference. Martin suggested that the viewBox might not be set and it is inheriting it from the document. ltlnx has been trying to fix the on canvas support for non-latin language. Looking into the font config situation and if it can be used. At one point the fallbacks did work in Linux but they all don't work now. Tav submitted a merge request for color fonts, it's VERY draft. All OpenType color font types will be supported. Martin talked with Tav about the object to path support and delaying it until Tav's work is complete. Thanks for coming everyone! Martin,

Review: Bugfix Accelerator 2025 (v3)

Dear PLC, As discussed in today's developer meeting, we want to put together a bugfix program for the 1.4.x releases to increase it's robustness. I've taken the previous successful programs run by Jonathan and am submitting the text of the proposal here. I've modified a few parts of it to make sense for the point release schedule and upped the budget to include hours for an issues administrator who will help organise and keep things prioritised. I'm putting this up for review first and in a couple of week I intend to put it up for a vote with your modifications. Because I intend to apply myself, I've made it clear how the hiring committee is put together and changed how unused funds are allocated to make sure there's no conflict of interest from me as the organiser. Dear Dev Team. Big thanks to everyone at this week's dev meeting: Cal: https://inkscape.org/cals/1/ Attendees: Marc, Mikekov, Rene, Tav, KrIr17, Martin, Ishaan, Jonathan Next Meeting: Early meeting, Jan 18th, Saturday Rene: Plans to move the MacOS pipeline stuff to the Infrastructure group; Also has been in touch with MacStadium, and setting up CIs for Gnome projects Garbled font issue ("tofu") has been identified and fixed in pango. We can finally get rid of it with a dependency update. Yay! KrIr17: Worked on fixing shortcuts in floating dialog windows Ishaan: Working on adding tests based on Rafael's proposal Marc hasn't worked on much and has been on holiday but finding it a little difficult to attend the new meeting times. Jonathan; Hackfest dates: - Hotel is booked from Sunday (2.2.)- Thursday (6.2.) morning for all participants that haven't told me otherwise (checkout 9:30 am). For those who have already booked flights, they can stay until Friday morning. - Conference room is reserved Monday (3.2.) - Wednesday (5.2.) evening. Projector available. - Hotel address is Haus der Jugend e.V., Deutschherrnufer 12, 60594 Frankfurt am Main - If you also want to attend FOSDEM, we can take a train to Frankfurt together: I’ll take the train at 16:25 from Brussels to Frankfurt, which arrives at Frankfurt/Main main station (2km from the youth hostel) at 19:31. - I haven't figured out the hotel reimbursement procedure with the SFC yet, working on that. Martin worked on a bunch of fixes, and some tentative features. Asked about doing 1.4.1. Jonathan says he would be in support of running a bugfix contract for 1.4.x if the testing team thinks it's necessary. Elendil reported on where we are on the project and some concerns about forward porting and back porting. Jonathan: Manpreet has been working on the AI import extensions, adding support for shapes and text. It's looking solid. Linearity Curve (ex-Vectornator) has locked out users by making the software paid. Someone has been working on a Curve->Svg importer, and wants to integrate it with Inkscape. Plus there has been a a lot of progress on Affinity importer, which would be nice to have in 1.4.1 Also worked on an extension showcasing automatic packaging and translation of extensions. Mikekov worked on the update modified signals. He tried a bunch of different possible techniques. Ishaan asked about markers and the transform tag on marker tags. Krlr17 asked about text attributes using pre and pre-wrap and older versions of the files. See you all next time!
