Dear chaps, As much as I appreciate being on the Inkscape board of directors, now that I work for Adobe it is a conflict of interest for me to remain here. Please accept my resignation and good wishes for the future. One day I may return and I hope that you'll look after our child in the meantime. njh

Sticker plan for SCALE

Hey guys, Okay, so here is my formal proposal. I'm thinking that we should get 2000 stickers printed. There is supposedly about 5000 people at the conference, but I doubt more than 1000 have ever come by the booth. I thought about over-printing for other events, but I think we'd rather run another contest then. We've got great artists, I think providing more opportunities is better than fewer. Looking at branders.com it looks like a 3" round sticker are about $0.15 a piece. So that means that I'm asking to spend about $300, hopefully less as the bulk rates start to kick in. I would like to have the design be a contest following on the heels of the amazingly successful 0.46 about screen contest. The requirements for the contest being that the Inkscape logo must be visible and it must have the text "http://inkscape.org" or "www.inkscape.org" in it somewhere. I've suggested it to Josh, but I haven't formally asked him to run it -- he seemed okay with doing it last I asked. At the conference I'm thinking that we should "charge" a $0.25 donation for the stickers. Basically putting a roll of stickers and a bowl of quarters on the table. I'll get a couple of rolls of quarters to make change. In theory, we could make some money on the whole thing, but the goal is more to add value to the stickers so they don't just end up everywhere. I'll of course post exact dollar amounts as they become available. Both for the costs and donations that we take in. All in favor? --Ted

Stickers for SCALE

Hey guys, I submitted the application for us to have a booth at SCALE again this year. I was thinking that perhaps we'd have a give away like stickers, something that says "Inkscape" on it. I figured we could do the design via contest. Anyway, that's really background, what I want to ask is how the stickers should (if they were approved by the board) be distributed: -- Give aways -- Sell for a $1 donation I'm kinda thinking give aways, but it seems like a case where we could make some money and not spend money on people who really don't care, they just want something for free. Thoughts? Ideas? --Ted

Long term logo, name, identity discussion

So, I think this whole thing has brought up issues with all these topics. Probably stuff that we should start resolving. I think the first thing that we need to determine is who owns them now. The name, I'm pretty sure that's Mental's. The logo, I think there is probably a few people owning Copyright there. I remember coming into IRC and Mental showing me the logo, but I don't really know what went on before that. Also, with the latest revamp of the logo, who did that? Was it Andy? Let's get this first. What does everyone else think? Also, I hope that I didn't offend anyone by suggesting it was okay to use the logo when I don't have any claims of copyright of the work. I didn't mean to -- I'm just excited about the idea of having a printed Inkscape work (in English -- the French one was cool at LGM, but not useful to me) --Ted

Board things

Okay, Now that we've got some legal structure set up I'm curious if we shouldn't start looking at things we can/can't/should/shoudn't do. Here's some ideas floating through my head, I'd love to know everyone's opinion on them: - Domain name, should we transfer this to be in the group's name? Can we do it? Does SFC have a process for this? - Trademarks, etc. on the Inkscape name/logo, "Draw Freely" and other such stuff. Do we think this is worthwhile? Can the SFC lawyers help us with this or do we need to find an outside firm? - If we do the above, do we need to draft a little "fair use" document kinda like the one that Linus has for Linux(tm) (used without permission)? - Swag. I don't know how Mental feels about it, but should we look at using his, or making another, Cafepress site that marks up the goods slightly to put monies into our coffers. It seems that people would rather buy something marked up than donate (or at least that's the only logic I can find to all the return address labels I get). Okay, that's my dump. Thoughts?
