Hey all. As requested of me at the board meeting, I've typed up a "common sense" draft of what I think is in-line with the project's purpose and goals. I thought about all the ways I could think of that a sponsor could make the project look bad with their actions, so here's the result: Sponsorship Requirements: The Inkscape project was founded to serve a world-wide community of artists, hobbyists, designers, scientists, engineers, and people everywhere by providing free and open source software (FLOSS) tools for vector graphics production. Since our sponsorship offerings include the service of exposure on our website, we require that all sponsors meet the following criteria to ensure a mutual compatibility with the spirit of the Inkscape Project. Thus to qualify for sponsorship, a sponsor must be: 1. A Legal, Law-Abiding Business - Must be registered as a business, pay taxes, and maintain a good standing with their customer base, and the country(s) in which they do business. 2. Politically Neutral - Our community is vast, and serves users from all walks of life and political views. The Inkscape Project does not, and therefore must not be seen to support one any particular ideology (beyond that of our belief in the essential software freedoms), and thus can not accept support from organisations of a political or religious nature. 3. Supportive of User Freedoms - A sponsor must not have a history of abusing user freedoms. This includes the sale of and promotion of proprietary software as part of the sponsor's core business, which we consider incompatible with the project's goals of user freedom. 4. Supportive of the Environment and the Future - The Inkscape Project can not accept donations from companies which promote the destruction of the environment. This includes companies which fund climate change denialism, anti-science groups, and members of the tobacco and fossil fuel industries. 5. Supportive of Equal Rights, Free Speech and Gender Equality - A sponsor must not fund groups which seek to deny the rights and freedoms of others based on gender, race, creed, religion (or lack thereof), or sexual preference. If a sponsor is found at odds with any of these essential compatibility points, the Inkscape Project reserves the right to pull the sponsor from our website, at which point a prorated refund of the donation amount will be returned to the sponsor.

[REFERENDUM] FPRJ-002: GList/GSList removal payment

The requirements of this job were met by Marc Jeanmougin prior to his joining of the Inkscape Board. While he did not official register for the project, and thus not all terms of the funded development policy have been followed, as per the terms of the policy the Board can grant process exceptions on a case-by-case basis via a majority vote (c.f. sec. 6 [2]). The current balance of funds allocated to FPRJ-002 is currently $750. Security Bug Rewards

Dear Board, Under my role as website administrator I got an unsolicited email from 'Freddie D. Silva' in which he documented five bugs in the inkscape.org deployment which would be security issues. After fixing the issues and thanking the contributor for their valuable service, they then asked for a security bounty. I've tried a couple of times to explain that Inkscape is a volunteer project and I've offered to add a credit and link to the website instead. But they don't seem to understand or be interested. I'm bringing this to the board's attention so that I can get some feedback on how to deal with this kind of contributor-case. Thanks for your input. Best Regards, Martin Owens

[RESOLVED] Budget for 2017

Resolution: The 2016 budget as proposed is adopted. The Board chairman has the action items to document this budget on the Inkscape website and to follow up with subsequent votes on individual expenses as appropriate. Proposal: 1. Allocate budget for FY2017 (03/2017 - 03/2018) following the 2015 and 2016 budgets, including allocations to funding pools for an OSUOSL grant, hackfest sponsorships, and development funding as before. 2. Add a new funding pool for marketing activities by the Vectors Team, and allocate $100 to the pool this FY. 3. Add a new funding pool for Google Summer of Code student travel. This will be used as pass-thru to students in support of their travel costs to Inkscape+GSoC related events, as per Google policies. 4. Add a new funding pool for conference attendance, and allocate $1000 to the pool this FY. Our last hackfest was managed efficiently and came in well under budget, however we will again allocate $5,000 from the general fund to hackfest expenses so that we grow the hackfest funding pool so that it might support multiple hackfests in a given year, or allow for larger hackfests. The new Vectors team is seeking to increase Inkscape awareness on a range of fronts. Marketing collateral (stickers, bookmarks, flyers, etc.) may assist their work, so this year a funding pool is established and seeded with a modest amount. For now the board will continue to review and approve expenditures as normal. Google provides funding for travel expenses of students. We may need to work out how to utilize these funds, but for now the budget establishes a pool in case we need to track the monies within the Inkscape project's own finances. Votes: Ted Gould: b. Congratulations Mc and CR! Sorry to anyone who wasn't aware of the election, or thought we were still running the test election. I tried to make sure we sent out a bunch of emails as well as patching the software as we went to improve the visual state of the election. But feedback is much encouraged! Hopefully we will be able to hold another election using our new software, especially since all the old elections have been ported over and you can see our history there. On a funny note, have you noticed how length of shortened nickname now corresponds to seniority in the board? Mc and CR are new, so they get two letters, while tav, ted and doc are all regulars with three. Draft of 'call for hosting sponsors'

Hi all, As mentioned at one of the recent board meetings, I'm going to send out a request next week for sponsors to provide hosting services for us. Below is the initial draft of the request, which I'd appreciate your feedback on. I've collected a list of places to send it, and will also post to inkscape-announce@ and inkscape-devel@...89... If you can think of additional places, please let me know. Bryce ------------------------------------------------------------------------ == Would you be interested in hosting Inkscape as a sponsor? == Inkscape is seeking to improve its online service hosting. To this end we're soliciting proposals for donation/sponsorship of hosting services for the project. The Inkscape Project is a non-profit, volunteer-driven organization that develops and maintains the popular Inkscape vector drawing software, provided freely to millions of artists, designers, and other drawers of lines. If you would be interested in sponsoring us through a donation of hosting service, we would be happy to add you to our sponsors page, with a mention & link on our main website's footer. Proposals can be sent to me as contact point. Our sysadmin team will review them and make a recommendation to the Inkscape board, who will make the final determination in about a month's time. == Background == We currently have various services hosted at a number of different locations with widely varying administrative capacities. We wish to consolidate these services to one platform where they can be centrally administered. Services high on our priority list to migrate soon include mailing lists, Mattermost, and wiki. Bug tracking, web forum and gitlab are potential secondary priorities. Our Django-based main website may also be worth consolidating at some point in the future. Ideally we'd like two distinct hosts, with one serving as primary and the other as a backup/spare, preferrably in geographically distinct areas (e.g. Europe and Canada). == Requirements == Minimum Desired Required Ideal CPU: dual core quad core RAM: 4 gb 256 gb Storage: 500GB >1 TB (HW RAID-1) HDD SDD Bandwidth: 1 TB/mo 2 TB/mo OS: Any linux Ubuntu 16.04 * We prefer an actual machine (metal) rather than virtual hosting. * UPS power backup * 24h support at the datacenter -- A hardware technician would need to be available for handling hardware issues, to do OS installation/reinstallation, hook up KVM/IP if available, and to investigate faults that can't be diagnosed remotely. * Server would be under the administrative and technical management of the Inkscape admin team (about 6-8 people). We would have root access to the machine for doing system updates and to install/configure software and services. * We expect to be managing/maintaining our software ourselves. Items we anticipate migrating to this include (in rough order of priority): + Mailman3 + Mattermost + Wiki (mediawiki currently) + Forum (e.g. hosting for inkscapeforum.com) + Bug tracker (TBD) + Gitlab + Other project management tools + Website / Django * Inkscape does not handle anything particularly controversial. No copyright infringing materials, nothing political, nothing intentionally offensive. Our windows binary has been false-positived by virus software in the past, but we clear this up ourselves. * Currently our website hosting is sponsored and managed by OSUOSL. It's a root access virtual machine running postgresql, memcached, nginx and the django site itself. Memory usage is 450MiB per web host thread, currently 2 threads, plus 500MB for postgresql and 500MB for memcache. CDN is hosted by Fastly, currently serving 32TB per month for Inkscape (1:1.5 ratio US:EU, so more EU hits overall). There's enough dynamic content that we still see a decent load (1/2 TB/mo) on the server, notably around major releases (once every year or two); we are continuously tweaking optimizations.
