Do not establish a budget for this year Background: ----------- During FY2017 our total assets rose from $41,746 to $74,826, thanks to generous donors and sponsors small and large who provided Inkscape with $37,728.90 in income. Our expenses in FY2017 were lower than in past years, amounting to $4,648.80. Our last hackfest came in well under budget. We are looking at doing two hackfests this year and expect about half a dozen sponsorships; we are offering sponsorships totalling $10,000 but expect the actual expenses to be smaller. The new Vectors team is very active and will be attending SCALE and other events. They are planning use of their budget for printing of handouts and signage for technical events. This budget increases their funding pool another $100. The board will continue to review and approve expenditures as normal. FY2017 saw our first funded development work. We hope to expand this program in 2018 with more projects funded. We added a new fund last year to help cover travel costs to non-hackfest conferences and other technical events. While this was not utilized last year, we'll continue adding funds to it in hope it will be of value going forward. Not really. I don't see anyone posting videos on using bzr and go to store passwords. All I really need is the username and password for our spreadshirt account. I don't need all the usernames and passwords for everything at this point. Can someone help we with that and we can do "all the things" later? He will be bringing camera equipment (tripod, lighting, etc.) to the event for capturing interviews and audio recording. Due to this activity his attendance at the 2018 Hackfest in Boston is vital to the project. He is a relatively new member of Inkscape (will be 11 months as of the date of the event), however, and the types of contributions he makes are not directly measurable as patches, so the established hackfest reimbursement rules do not cover the expected expenses for his attendance. His sponsorship was discussed at the Feb 2018 Inkscape Board meeting and there was a rough consensus favoring holding a vote for sponsoring him. Martin Owens has offered to share lodging, so Ryan's expected expenses should total less than $1000, which is the allocation level we generally provide for 1-year contributors. Note, this resolution does not increase the budget for the hackfest nor does it open up invitations to any other person without board consent.

credentials repo moved to new location

Just a quick note that the credentials repository has been moved, as discussed last board meeting. When we switched from bzr to git, the credentials repository was moved over as a branch of the inkscape codebase. Apart from being awkward it also made it very slow to download (since it was downloading the entirety of the inkscape code history, only to replace all the code with the credentials stuff...) Anyway, I exported the git history and imported it as a new project, which will live here in its new permanent location: https://gitlab.com/inkscape/infra/credentials I've also made this private to logged in Inkscape project team members only. No one outside our project should really need this so I think that is appropriate. Let me know if you run into problems, and I can adjust permissions and things to improve convenience. (You'll also notice I'm putting project internal service-ish stuff like this into a subcategory 'infra'. As we go through updating mailing lists, wiki, forums and other such things we can use this to collect random bits and pieces like service configs here.) Bryce

Future hackfest ideas

When drafting the vote for this coming hackfest, a couple things occurred to me regarding making our events more welcoming and inviting. First, while I like the fairness of our reimbursement schedule for longer term contributors, I wonder if it might be a bit exclusionary for situations where we do want to encourage newer developers to get involved and join in. It makes me wonder if we should revisit the tiers and make sure the numbers aren't hindering attendance at these events? Second, the tiers quantify based on patchcount, but many of our developers are making numerous important contributions that can't be measured in git commits. Where we do use a tiered system, it would be beneficial if we could find ways to structure it to recognize that work. Lastly, I worry a bit that not all types of people may feel comfortable attending a hackfest - language, gender, age, work duties, family requirements, etc. can affect someone's choice to attend. We invest a fair amount of the project's money into these hackfests, but if they are only effectively open to a subset of our membership it makes me wonder if we need to broaden our thinking for other kinds of gathering activities that might suit some of these other participants. Anyway, nothing here to do regarding the upcoming hackfest, time's too short. But what do you guys think of these ponderings in relation to making our future activities more inclusive of a wider variety of people? Bryce

A second mini-hackfest is tentatively planned be held in conjunction with the LGM meeting in Seville, Spain April 26th through April 30th. Google may be providing some support for travel to LGM.
