2015 Budget actuals

Donna and I have gone through the ledger records to add an Actuals column for the 2015 budget: https://inkscape.org/en/about/governance/budget/ Note that FY2015 isn't over yet, so there could well be more expenses to come. Also I'm not certain we've captured everything 100% perfectly so if anything looks weird lemme know. For 2016, I think we could be more aggressive in our spending plans. It feels to me that we could afford to be more liberal in our conference attendance sponsorships. It would be great to also see more activities like last year's book program; main limiting factor has just been finding folks to do the coordination legwork, so anyone interested in organizing something like that please send in a proposal. SVG Working Group travel support

Hi, The SVG Working Group will be holding a face-to-face meeting in Sydney at the beginning of February. I know we've discussed funding SVG Working Group travel through dedicated fund raising but as that system is not yet functional (and as we've been quite successful in raising funds the past two years) I would like to see how board members feel about my asking for funding to travel to this meeting. The SVG 2 specification is firming up. The one big section that still needs work is the text chapter. The major difficulty here is the need to interface to all the relevant CSS text specifications, some of which are not very far advanced. I've got a ton of issues that need addressing. At the Sydney meeting there will be a one day joint meeting with the CSS working group. Being able to sit down with the CSS people is the best way of making progress. I've been doing most of the work for the text section. I've had some help from another group member but he's in the process of ramping down his participation in the working group. The Sydney meeting is likely the last meeting he'll attend. I estimate the cost for attending the Sydney meeting to be about the same as last year: a bit under $2500 (I was reimbursed $2250 last year). Last year's Sydney meeting was very successful from our perspective. BTW, as I work on the spec, I've also been working on Inkscape's text rendering. I've recently fixed some issues with vertical text as well as issues with multi-line text. I've also implemented the new 'text- orientation' attribute and there is a rendering only implementation of SVG 2.0 wrapped text. Tav

Relicensing to GPL v2+

Hello board, Section 9 of GNU GPL says: The Free Software Foundation may publish revised and/or new versions of the General Public License from time to time. Such new versions will be similar in spirit to the present version, but may differ in detail to address new problems or concerns. Each version is given a distinguishing version number. If the Program specifies a version number of this License which applies to it and "any later version", you have the option of following the terms and conditions either of that version or of any later version published by the Free Software Foundation. If the Program does not specify a version number of this License, you may choose any version ever published by the Free Software Foundation. Almost all of our files say "released under GNU GPL" without specifying the version; thus they are effectively under GPL v1+. The only offenders I've identified are: src/xml/quote.cpp src/main-cmdlineact.h src/main-cmdlineact.cpp src/live_effects/lpe-jointype.h src/live_effects/lpe-jointype.cpp which are GPL v2 only. If we rewrote those files or contacted the authors to release under GPL v2+, we could change the advertised license from GPL v2 to GPL v2+. What do you think? Best regards, Krzysztof

License issue with Scour

Hi, Scour is now licensed solely under the Apache 2.0 license. This license in principle is not compatible with GPLv2.[1] Eduard Brown would like to merge an updated version of Scour into Inkscape trunk. He claims that as we are only calling Scour as an external program (script) we do not need to worry about the license incompatibility. Is this true? Code of conduct review

Hi, I finally got around to doing a review of the code of conduct as I agreed to do at the last IRC board meeting. I apologize for taking so long. I think the text looks great! I also think it might be time to remove the "draft" stuff (Work in Progress at top, copies of other code of conducts at bottom.) I made some minor editing changes: * "Even if" -> "For example, if" (avoid awkward repeating of "even") * "are conflicted" -> "have a conflict of interest" * "feeling" -> "feel" * "parent organization" -> "collaborating organizations" (We don't really have a parent organization and the text should apply, for example, to our internet hosts.)
