Thanks for chasing this up Maren, Feedback from these sources should be taken into account: * Facebook - A poll of over a hundred Inkscape users indicates an extremely strong desire for CMYK and general print support. With users indicating that they are using many proprietary tools as workarounds, even when they like Inkscape's other workflows. Full report from Chris Rogers coming soon. * Other FOSS projects - I've had a few conversations with some other people who work in places like Fedora. There's a strong desire to have CMYK and proper print handling amongst our wider Free Software community which is not being handled by our current setup with Scribus. * Other - Other discussions on twitter, rocket chat and elsewhere have indicated an extremely large desire to have CMYK support. So far, very few people have indicated that they would rather Inkscape work on some other feature. This seems to be the mass majority and also a thing which significantly effects people's use of Inkscape. I'm going to raise the prospect of putting a $20k grant into CMYK and print features. TODAY: Meeting; hiring an administration position in Inkscape

Hello everyone, We have scheduled today's meeting to discuss the specific details of hiring an administrator who can help organise the inkscape project. This is a budgeting request from the Developer Team to alleviate a lot of the stress from running the project and better organise. Starting Questions * Should they be familiar with the project? * They probably shouldn't not be a developer? * Should they be part time or full time? * Should we ask the SFC to fill the role for us? The goal is to flesh out the request so we can offer the board a set of requirements and desires around what we (as the developer team) would like to have. Developer Team Budget

Dear Developer team, Thank you to everyone who made the developer meeting today; we talked a lot about what the budget should look like from the developer team. I have comprised the ideas here which I will be bringing to the next board meeting to be held on June 4th 2021 ( https://inkscape.org/cals/event/2/) Current items to be requested immediately: * The Developer team requests a General Administrator who can take care of many of the organisational tasks which we currently struggle to. This is deemed more important than any funding for specific features. I'd like to invite everyone to join me for a meeting to flesh out what this would look like, we'll use previous work as a base and work from there. Please come to BigBlueButton next Sunday 30th May at 17:00UTC (https://inkscape.org/cals/event/25/) to make sure our proposal is detailed enough. * We would like to budget $5k on macOS speed problems; this is to be spent on analysis first, and then solutions second. The whole developer team recognises how dire the situation is with René specifically saying that without a fix we should not release for macOS in the future. Future budget requests which we do not have a consensus for, or details are missing: * CMYK support; Tav would like this, developers feel it's not important enough. A user study would be useful to know for sure. * PathFinder; Taking over, or working with the Linux foundation for their Rust based pathfinder is a great way to bring GPU rendering to Inkscape. Marc is to contact the linux foundation and Linkmauve about collaboration or taking over the project. * ARM Machine for René; If we continue to develop macOS, René will need one of the newer ARM based macOS machine which would be set up to do CI builds. Improving the ability to check and build testing builds for macOS. Thanks everyone for attending, we had quite a lot of the developer team there today and a lot of students so I feel good that we got to see a lot of different opinions. Inkscape 1.1 release candidate is available !

Hi to all Inkscapers! We just launched the Release Candidate of Inkscape 1.1, with a plan to have roughly three weeks of testing for a release around May 24th. You can get it here: ================================= https://inkscape.org/release/inkscape-1.1/?latest=1 ================================= (source tarball, linux appimage, windows installers and macOS dmg are available) We encourage you to use it as you would use Inkscape 1.1 stable, in order to find any problems people may encounter with the release. In particular, if you find any regressions, please do submit a bug report as soon as possible on https://inkscape.org/report : if nothing major is reported, the state of that release candidate should be close to the release. Potential change of venue for Board meetings

Hey folks. In order to collect discussions that are related to Inkscape's internal processes, ethics and policies, we've been kinking the idea around for a RocketChat Channel #board_room, which will be a place to house not only our board meetings, but also conversations that need the board's attention. Reasoning for this is: 1. To make it easy for board members to see conversation which is relevant to decisions the board will have to make, all in one place. 2. To keep the #team_devel channel for code development matters. 3. To keep other channels such as #team_vectors uncluttered 4. To allow project members who wish to participate in the discussion a place where their points are likely to be seen by board members (to reduce having to explain nuanced conversation again) Thus this new channel will be a digest for board members to scan through and see board-related matters before and after board meetings. This room would be open to everyone in the project just as board meetings have always been. Thoughts?

New contribution/funding pages

Dear board, I've put together the pages which are linked from our new welcome screen. They are there to encourage more of our users to contribute to the project and know how they might be able to make Inkscape better. The first is the contribute time page: https://inkscape.org/splash/contribute/ The second is the funding page: https://inkscape.org/splash/support/ The funding page links to a new supporting programmers page: https://inkscape.org/support-us/programmers/ I've tried to encapsulate where we are as a project on funding developers and what advice we've been given from the SFC. While it makes me sad that we can't seem to fund developers directly or event give links to users who want to fund developers, I understand the reasons. Since this is an important topic I'd like for the board to review the pages, and the wording. Once I've got the pages to a place where everything is satisfied, I'll send the SFC an FYI email with the links so they know what we're saying about funding. Does this seem like a reasonable plan?
