Dear Board/Committee, We had a practice discussion and this is our practice vote. Background on the vote: The Inkscape PLC is a subsidiary of the software freedom conservancy. As such our use of the word "Board" to describe our group can be confusing to English speakers. To help remedy this, I move that we rename ourselves to the "Inkscape Committee" in all our documentation and how we describe ourselves. Pros: * This is the name used in the SFC agreement. "The Inkscape Committee Will Manage the Project. Authority to manage the technical,artistic and philanthropic direction of the Project and the program activities of the Project isdelegated to the Inkscape Committee (“Committee”) as defined in §6" * It helps people understand our relationship with the SFC. * It helps us avoid getting into discussions with third parties that assume we're an independent organisation. Cons: * There's a lot of things to modify. (chat rooms, wiki, website, irc, mailing lists) although not all things need to be modified if they are hard to do. For example the mailing list. * It's not that important. The SFC don't mind and aren't forcing us to. This vote wil be open for one week (7 days) from today at which point the tally will be made and the decision will be posted to this mailing list. If passed, I'll announce to the rest of the project (and especially vectors) and make a start at changing the name. We can do this bit by bit as we see things. Options * [ ] Rename the "Inkscape Board" the "Inkscape Committee" * [ ] No not rename it and keep it as "Inkscape Board" * [ ] Rename it to something else (please specify) Thanks! Regular Meeting

Dear all, As discussed at the last video meeting, the committee/board did a poll to decide if we wanted to continue doing regular video meetings. There was a unanimous vote to continue (except for ted who had to leave before this discussion) and I was asked to put together the details. Generally people favoured a non-weekend date, any date so long as it had enough notice. This is the new calendar entry, it's set to the second Thursday each month, at 16:00 UTC https://inkscape.org/cals/event/30/ I've also created a room on big blue button. The aim will be to record each of the meetings and I can post the recording to the right places (probably here on the mailing list). The general agenda is to come together to talk about what we need to do next for the project. We'll still post all votes to the mailing list, so anyone who misses the meeting won't be left out. Meeting with the SFC

Splitting into a separate thread for readability. (please don't add things to this thread) It seems that folks want to have a meeting with the SFC to get some advice. I'm happy to facilitate that. But, I'm unsure of what advice we're looking for and what to say we want from the meeting (help me write the email). Setting up Committee Meetings

Dear Inkscape Committee, After our detailed discussion with Karen and Pono, it's becoming more clear that we should be running Committee Meetings via a video chat service. There is a great need to have more discussion, debate and decision making process at specified times and places outside of this mailing list and I believe that the SFC's suggestion of using their big blue button server is actually their gentle hint that running a higher bandwidth meeting would benefit the project greatly. I propose that we start running committee meetings. This meeting would be a distinct and different event from the existing status update event, where activate items have their updates relayed to the rest of the project. But would instead focus on many of the processes, problems, activities and votes which are involved in being a responsible committee for the Inkscape project. To kick off this series of meetings, I'd like to invite Pono to chair the first meeting. The hope here is that the SFC can instruct us on the right way to conduct a more structured and productive meeting via video chat and then from there on we would conduct meetings monthly, with reports and recordings to the mailing list. Using this as a template. Should this idea meet with general approval from the rest of the board, Ted would contact the SFC to formally request a suitable date and time which the SFC would be available to offer this initial meeting and when the majority of the current comittee members would be available. The agenta would focus on reviewing the basics of meeting operation and our questions to the SFC about running ourselves better. I believe having this meeting structure is essential before we can conduct much of the rest of the business for Inkscpe we must have a decision making process which is more attentive than the current mailing list approach where I don't believe proper quorum can be achieved which raises doubts bout the legitimacy of the decisions we make here. Hi all, The next steps for the budgeting for macOS speed improvements is a vote. I didn't see any objections from the board about the developer team proposal to spend $5k on contracting with someone to analyse the speed problems in macOS and give us a report. Thanks for chasing this up Maren, Feedback from these sources should be taken into account: * Facebook - A poll of over a hundred Inkscape users indicates an extremely strong desire for CMYK and general print support. With users indicating that they are using many proprietary tools as workarounds, even when they like Inkscape's other workflows. Full report from Chris Rogers coming soon. * Other FOSS projects - I've had a few conversations with some other people who work in places like Fedora. There's a strong desire to have CMYK and proper print handling amongst our wider Free Software community which is not being handled by our current setup with Scribus. * Other - Other discussions on twitter, rocket chat and elsewhere have indicated an extremely large desire to have CMYK support. So far, very few people have indicated that they would rather Inkscape work on some other feature. This seems to be the mass majority and also a thing which significantly effects people's use of Inkscape. I'm going to raise the prospect of putting a $20k grant into CMYK and print features. TODAY: Meeting; hiring an administration position in Inkscape

Hello everyone, We have scheduled today's meeting to discuss the specific details of hiring an administrator who can help organise the inkscape project. This is a budgeting request from the Developer Team to alleviate a lot of the stress from running the project and better organise. Starting Questions * Should they be familiar with the project? * They probably shouldn't not be a developer? * Should they be part time or full time? * Should we ask the SFC to fill the role for us? The goal is to flesh out the request so we can offer the board a set of requirements and desires around what we (as the developer team) would like to have. Developer Team Budget

Dear Developer team, Thank you to everyone who made the developer meeting today; we talked a lot about what the budget should look like from the developer team. I have comprised the ideas here which I will be bringing to the next board meeting to be held on June 4th 2021 ( https://inkscape.org/cals/event/2/) Current items to be requested immediately: * The Developer team requests a General Administrator who can take care of many of the organisational tasks which we currently struggle to. This is deemed more important than any funding for specific features. I'd like to invite everyone to join me for a meeting to flesh out what this would look like, we'll use previous work as a base and work from there. Please come to BigBlueButton next Sunday 30th May at 17:00UTC (https://inkscape.org/cals/event/25/) to make sure our proposal is detailed enough. * We would like to budget $5k on macOS speed problems; this is to be spent on analysis first, and then solutions second. The whole developer team recognises how dire the situation is with René specifically saying that without a fix we should not release for macOS in the future. Future budget requests which we do not have a consensus for, or details are missing: * CMYK support; Tav would like this, developers feel it's not important enough. A user study would be useful to know for sure. * PathFinder; Taking over, or working with the Linux foundation for their Rust based pathfinder is a great way to bring GPU rendering to Inkscape. Marc is to contact the linux foundation and Linkmauve about collaboration or taking over the project. * ARM Machine for René; If we continue to develop macOS, René will need one of the newer ARM based macOS machine which would be set up to do CI builds. Improving the ability to check and build testing builds for macOS. Thanks everyone for attending, we had quite a lot of the developer team there today and a lot of students so I feel good that we got to see a lot of different opinions.
