Any collaboration features built into Inkscape?

Hi all, I'm writing a book, and one chapter compares and contrasts vector drawing programs. This specific section is about several people in several cities getting together via Jitsi or Zoom or GotoMeeting or whatever and working on a diagram together. I'd envision one participant making changes, then another participant, etc. I wouldn't anticipate two doing it simultaneously: That would be a recipe for disaster. So does Inkscape in any way facilitate this kind of collaboration? Unexpected behavior in version Inkscape 1.1 (c68e22c387, 2021-05-23)

Hi all, I'm using Inkscape 1.1 (c68e22c387, 2021-05-23), and running into unexpected behavior with text, as explained below: My drawing has a text item with hard newlines and specific spacing between baselines (1.1). I save it as plain SVG, close the file, then reopen it. The text item's baseline to baseline appears to have reverted to 1.0, but the text now appears to be on one line, and if I insert newlines, everything just gets jumbled together on the same line. If I add material, different lines have different baseline to baseline distances. The bottom line is I have to completely recreate the text item from scratch on every edit, which slows things to say the least. This is probably intermittent, because I have another text item that so far, from minimal investigation, appears not to have this problem. I can also tell you that I seem to remember problems like this (rarely) in earlier versions, but I can't remember any details. * Has anybody else encountered this? * Can anybody tell me what I'm doing wrong, and how to do it right? Modifying the opacity of objects inside a group

Dear all, I want to modify the opacity of objects inside a group. This is for a theme, so I need to do many such operations. Currently, I ungroup, select the objects, modify the opacity, group again, and rename the group. This is time consuming so I would like to go faster by not ungrouping the objects. So I try to enter the group and select the object. Unfortunately, when I do that, I always see the opacity of the objects at 100%, so it seems this is not the real opacity of the object and I cannot increase it. Do I miss something? Wacom tablet question

greetings netizens... I have a question regarding the use of a wacom tablet, specifically key presses that are mapped via GNOME settings on the Wacom section or if somehow wacom is the culprit in this case. I'm uncertain if the issue is as a result of mapping the keys in the GNOME settings or if Inkscape needs some time to interpret those mapped keys. So to get into it, I have mapped the three buttons in GNOME settings to use inkscape shortcuts and they work a good 85% of the time. The issue is that crops up is that, sometimes when pressing those keys Inkscape brings up another dialogue box, which I'm guessing is Inkscape interpreting me pressing those shortcuts keys and me getting the wrong resulting command (the dialogue box). Here is the exact scenario. I have a set of multiple images that need to be clipped, duplicated, and converted to a bitmap then continuing along the task of clipping those images from the various areas on the image. How can I avoid this happening? Or is the only way to press the mapped keys at a slower rate?

We have already gathered a small booth team of 4, possibly 5, but the CLT (Chemnitzer Linuxtage) are all-day events and we could use your help answering user questions about how to work with the program, how to contribute to it and about what is going on in the Inkscape community. We might even do some short, up to 20min topic-focused sessions, if someone would like to organize (one of) them. So, if you're a developer, a forum member, a regular user support provider in our chat channels, an Inkscape translator, or are contributing to the project more or less regularly in any other way, and you have some time available to spend helping the Inkscape project on that weekend in March, please introduce yourself at the GitLab issue report where we're discussing the event organization! Dear Kolbjørn, All downloads are the same, the contain all languages. Your computer is asking for Norwegian when it loads Inkscape. But you can override this in the preferences. Intermittent unexpected behavior with text vertical spacing

Hi all, I have version "1.0.1 (unknown)" on Void Linux that's within 2 days of being up to date. I have a text item whose vertical spacing is 0.8 lines. When I re-edit this text item, move somewhere within it, and press the Enter key, instead of splitting into two lines spaced 0.8 lines apart, it writes the second half of the line right on top of the first half. This happens only under certain circumstances which I haven't yet identified. This slows me down tremendously because I can't just dupe a text item and edit into something similar. Because it becomes unreadable, my ability to make it readable again depends on my using enough undos to undo it, rather than deleting the added newline. It REALLY slows me down. I've attached a file whose dark red text has this problem. Has anybody else seen this behavior? What circumstances make it happen? Is there a workaround? Is the desired result achievable?

Copy page as png without exporting

Hi folks, I often use Inkscape to generate pngs that I paste into other programs like Google Docs etc. The easiest way is to copy and paste the image as a bit map using Windows clipboard. It would be great if there was a button to quickly copy the page contents as a png to the clipboard without having to save as an exported png. It would be similar to the preview we already get in icon preview, but with the option of copying it directly. Thanks Adam

Hi folks, I'm experiencing an issue where Inkscape takes way more time than other apps to open on my Linux install. I've done a `strace` and tried to understand the output but I must say it's a bit over my pay grade :). Would it be possible to have some help to find the issue? I have contributed a pair of extensions that I refer to as Inkscape2pcb in the Inkscape contributions gallery. The extension code is primarily hosted on github at https://github.com/erichVK5/inkscape2pcb These extensions make it easier to create freeform artwork and outline geometry on printed circuit boards (PCBs), by allowing export of Inkscape paths to PCB layout features. Export to the following formats is possible: 1) the pcb-rnd layout editor as a subcircuit in native pcb-rnd lihata file format (.lht) ( see http://repo.hu/projects/pcb-rnd/ ) 2) the gEDA PCB layout editor as a footprint in native gEDA PCB footprint format (.fp) ( see http://pcb.geda-project.org/ ) 3) KiCad users, indirectly, who can import gEDA PCB footprints from within KiCad ( see https://kicad-pcb.org/ ) The export script for pcb-rnd will also export paths as polygons, along with the outlines, provided the paths depict simple, non self-intersecting polygons. The pcb-rnd layout editor has a more capable data model than gEDA PCB, allowing polygons within footprints, and also load and save in KiCad formats. Enjoy responsibly! Erich

Inkscape path to simple laser cutter gcode extension uploaded to gallery

I have contributed a simple export script that exports Inkscape paths as gcode suitable for cheap laser cutters running GRBL based controllers. I wanted a simple, no-nonsense exporter that produced g-code ready to send to a low cost ebay DIY laser cutter with a gcode sender like Universal g-code Sender ( see https://winder.github.io/ugs_website/ ). I have tested it with GRBL 0.8c on a stock ebay bought laser cutter with inkscape version 0.92. The laser control is simple on/off. Question: Pattern-along-path (LPE) deforms circular path - known issue?

Hi, I'm Dieter and this is my first entry to this mailing list. As I really appreciate the efforts of the inkscape developers I would like to contribute by reporting issues/bugs. I've noticed that, whenever I add the LPE (Pattern along path) on a "perfect" circle (created with Ctrl -> make whole ellipse -> Object to path), the circle (the path for the pattern) gets slightly deformed - subsequently the pattern also doesn't follow a perfect circle. I'm able to replicate the problem (also with default preferences). Originally, I wanted to report this as a bug, but the inkscape website suggests to ask around first. So, does anybody know if this is a known issue or if it should behave like this (I suppose not)? On GitHub I couldn't find an entry for this particular issue. Thx, Dieter

Open this code in inkscape (a text along a circular path). Group it all Copy paste Ungroupe : the text is no longer along the path. What's wrong with that code (progeamgenerated) ? Errores Inkscape

Hola que tal, Soy usuaria del programa inskcape, lo utilizó en la vectorización de patrones de costura que trabajo en otro programa específico Seamly y así puedo cortarlos en tela a través de láser e imprimirlos si hace falta. Me grabe la versión 1.0 para probarla, pero tengo algunas dudas al respecto de los errores que me salen, es normal, es mi ordenador?? - Suelo trabajar con varias ventanas, pero cuando ajusto las propiedades de documento, se quedan las ventanas abiertas y no las puedo cerrar, a veces desaparecen cuando cambió de archivo, pero se colapsa el programa se cierra y genera un archivo automático .................svg.2020-06-22-20-16-10.0.svg También se colapsa y se cierra si trabajas con dibujos que tengan mucha resolución o cuando quise utilizar: trayecto/vectorizar mapa de bits. Con la anterior versión alguna vez también se cerraba el programa pero no tanto como con esta. Pongo los datos de mi ordenador, por si ese es el problema. Mi ordenador es portatil marca Asus. Windows 10 Home 2019 Procesador Intel (R) Celeron (R) CPU N2840 2.16 GHZ Memoria RAM 4,00 (3,89 GB utilizables) Sistema operativo 64 bits Procesador X64 Gracias Pilar

Inkscape Hackfest 2020

Dear Inkscape developers and users, I've been thinking about how best we can host a hackfest for 2020 given all the restrictions. After talking with multiple people, I've decided that the best format for an online hackfest is to have one spread out over the summer. So may I present to everyone the Summer of Hackfest: https://gitlab.com/inkscape/vectors/general/-/issues/161 This gitlab issue is just for organising people's preferences, and thoughts. Once I have times confirmed, I'm going to write everything in the regular hackfest wiki page for everyone. So. The idea here is to take advantage of the online nature of this year's hackfest activity and allow people more breathing room between sessions. Each week I'll be hosting a video chat which you will be free to join and just hang out in and where hopefully some of the important topics will happen once per week. No grueling commitment, no big block of time, just a predictable schedule of lovely inkscape topics which will be publisised to get more people involved than ever before. Positioning objects by center

From other CAD software, I'm accustomed to being able to position an object in a drawing by it's center. For example, I want to locate a 1/2" circle at grid coordinates X 1.000, Y 1.000. In Inkscape, I can create my circle, no problem, and I can enter the X and Y coordinates of 1.000 and 1.000 and the circle appears - but the lower left-hand corner of the box that surrounds the circle is at that location, not the center of my circle, which is in fact at X 1.250 Y 1.250. My question is, how can I change the reference point, "handle", or whatever it's called in Inkscape to the center rather than the outside corner of this box? I can't believe this is not the default, but I also have not been able to figure out what Inkscape calls this, and how to change it. Thanks! Bob

I'm a new user of Inkscape .92 but very long time graphics user (pixel, vector, 3D) and would be a better user if the UI was more customizable and so suggest these possibilities for change, or at least user options: Ability to move tool panel from being stuck at left edge to floating so we can put it where most useable. In all my programs I keep it near right edge of main screen. Ability to move toolbars on top.monitor screen wide enough to have both toolbars on one row instead of 2 rows Allow for use of color palette to be floating. and able to roll-up to a simple panel row; maybe even on toolbar row with dropdown arrow click Probably most important would be ability to drag any panel (or toolbar that changes into a panel) onto a second monitor. I normally use main monitor for workspace and tool panel and remaining tools/panels/etc. on the second monitor. All of above lends toward better efficiency and full screen use of workspace for artboards. Thankfully I can make the program window wide enough to let part of it on second monitor in default mode now. Doug

An update: Inkscape 1.0beta2 (2b71d25, 2019-12-03) runs without problems. After successfully starting up and shutting down 1.0beta2, now 1.0.0 isn't starting at all.

A couple of weeks ago, Inkscape 1.0.0 was running happily on my Mojave machine. Today, it won’t start. Instead, MacOS gives this error message: The last time you opened Inkscape, it unexpectedly quit while reopening windows. Do you want to try to reopen its windows again? There are two option buttons: Don’t Reopen, and Reopen. Both have the same effect: Inkscape vanishes. I have tried: - trashing pref files - trashing app support files - trashing Inkscape.app and re-installing from a fresh download Context: Inkscape 1.0.0 (4035a4f) MacOS Mojave 10.14.6 RAM: 24 GB Processor: 3.2 GHz core i5 Where should I be looking next to fix this?

How to create curved text box

Hi Maren & David, First, this is almost consistent on my system. The variation is that the erase line disappears (as you would expect) but does nothing with the underlying object. In no case have I seen it working on my system. I have removed the preferences file, so I’m working with the defaults set on installation. There are two issues here for me. First the Cut tool does not cut paths. I was trying the erase tool as a work-around. Second, the, is the non-functional erase tool. I am unwilling to restore Mojave, but if I did, I’d go back to Illustrator because I know how to use it. I like Inkscape, but to be a replacement for me, I need the cut tool. Do I need to make this into a formal bug report? Issues with cutting paths

Hi, I’m a new user migrating over from Illustrator. I’m running a Mac (Catalina 10.15.3) and Inkscape 1.0beta2 (2b71d25, 2019-12-03). I have deleted the preferences file prior to this test. From a new, empty document, I created a couple of shapes. Following an online tutorial (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gO7TU7N3sn0) my installation does not cut paths using the eraser and the ‘cut out from paths and shapes’ setting. I get a [red] line (path) as in the tutorial, but it remains after I lift the mouse and the underlying shape remains intact. I can delete the red line in the usual way. On a second shape, I convert to a path, highlight a pair of nodes and click ‘cut’. The highlight on the nodes disappears, but the path remains intact. Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?
