I have inherited a vector PDF and an SVG file of a logo made from
outlined letters with a gradated drop-shadow (see
http://xml.silmaril.ie/downloads/letterlogo.png for enlarged PNG fragment).
When the logo is enlarged (eg for use on a poster), the drop-shadow
shows up pixellated. Both files exhibit the identical problem. When
edited, the drop-shadow is indeed made up of pixels. I assume in my
ignorance that it was passed through some software at some stage in its
past which concretized the drop-shadow as graded pixels.
How would I go about removing the drop-shadow entirely, and replacing it
with one of identical color and extent, but done in such a way as to
withstand enlargement without deterioration?
Reminder: Tomorrow (Saturday) is our fundraising meet up. Come join us
to learn about fundraising for free and open source software projects,
and bounce ideas around.
If you're interested in new ways to help move Inkscape forward, or
looking for a good opportunity to get involved in open source, this may
be an excellent chance!
See below for specifics.

We're excited to announce the beginning of our bug migration from
Launchpad to GitLab! This is a great way for veterans and rookies alike
to improve Inkscape for all. To add a little excitement we're tracking
migrations, publishing a leaderboard, awarding achievements and issuing
prizes to top contributors. Learn more by visiting:
Thanks for joining the cause!
P.S. Special thanks to CR, Terry, and all who put this event together.
I posted messages in the forums last week, but I just realized I didn't
post on the mailing lists. Since the Rules and Guidelines are essentially
finished, the next step is to select moderators for the new forum.
If anyone is interested in helping to moderate, please contact me. You
can reply to this message on the list, or you're welcome to contact me
privately, if you prefer.
The Rules section of the Rules and Guidelines explains what the job of a
moderator is. I think it will eventually appear on a new Forum Team on the
website's Teams page, but it's not there yet. Meanwhile, it's here:
Not the meeting coming up this weekend, but next month's (May) meeting
of the Vectors team, we'll be discussing plans for an opening of the new forum.
At the moment, I'm thinking a month or 2 after the next hackfest would be good
for the opening. The hackfest is end of May/beginning of June, so maybe
July/August would be good for the forum opening? That's just a very rough guess
at this point, and we'll finalize that at the May meeting.
