Reply-To
by Daniel Taylor
Just a little question:
Would it be possible to set the Reply-To field to
"inkscape-user(a)lists.sourceforge.net" instead of to the person that
wrote to the list?
Just go to here: https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/admin/inkscape-user
and put in the admin password. Then under "Where are replies to list
messages directed?" you can set it to "This list."
It does however say that "Poster is _strongly_ recommended for most
lists," could anyone explain that to me? It talks about reply to
munging... I guess that could be an issue?
What does everyone think about this? Should it be changed? I just think
it's annoying to have to change it every time!

bad imported image size
by Michal Zeravik
Hi,
I found bug: when I import png image 726x88 px,
in Inkscape it has 580x70pt. Mean pt pixels?
Is there any chance to modify image size
with transoform panel to exact size with constrained ratio?

New User Questions
by Landon Blake
Inkscape Users,
I had a few more beginners questions.
#1 - If I have drawn to overlapping shapes, is there a way to combine them into one shape?
#2 - When I drew a circle or ellipse it had a dark black border. Can you change the color of this border?
#3 - When I try to apply a gradient fill to a shape, the color changes to shades of black, grey, and white. Is there something I need to change to apply gradient fills in color?
#4 - Is there a way to change the rotation angle of text?
Thanks for any suggestions. I appreciate any help.

GIMP library usage.
by George Farris
Just wondering if the Inkscape guys have contacted the GIMP devel team
and discussed common library routines that could be shared or even
become part of GNOME Office?
Curious.

RE: [Inkscape-user] Printing on Fedora and Windows

I did not try printing these particular files, but I'm afraid they are not
optimized for printing (to put it mildly). They are much larger than
standard page, especially the tutorial, and Inkscape cannot yet break large
things into pages for printing. They are intended for on-screen perusal. Try
to draw something in a new document within a canvas frame and print it; if
this works then the problem is with the tutorial size, not with Inkscape
printing.

I did not consider bevels specifically because I never use them in Xara.
Perhaps they will fit into the same filters framework as the gaussian blur.
You can search the SVG spec, it may have some provisions as to bevels. SVG
compliance is a must for us, so if you suggest a feature, you'll get bonus
points for explaining how it could be represented in SVG.
> Or how about bitmaps interacting with vectors, as in: a vector object
>slicing a bitmap??
Sure, that's to be implemented on a much closer timeframe than filters
(which I'm afraid are rather distant, unless an interested developer joins
us to work on them). What you refer to is bitmap fill (an arbitrary path
filled with bitmap), and it actually works already, but has no UI yet.

It's done for the Linux version, although the support varies depending on
the window manager you use. On Windows, this trick does not seem to work
properly, and we haven't had time yet to investigate the proper approach.

Dialogs are unlikely to become dockable to the document window (if only
because you may have many document windows, while the dialogs are supposed
to be shared between them). But ultimately they may become dockable to each
other, a la Gimp.

Re: [Inkscape-user] horny user
by Arts Account
: I have a question about this.
:
: I primarily use XaraX on Windows and by masking a vector and a bitmap is
: this done in order to add effects or is this for something else?
:
: In XaraX you can add bevels and shadows to vector objects while the
: objects remain fully editable, it's a very nice extra that no one else
seems
: to have going out there including Illustrator, Canvas or CorelDraw!!
Shapes
: that you apply such effects to usually are transformed to a bitmap with
: alpha.
:
: I realize I'm speaking of a regular vector program Vs Inkscapes SVG
focus
: but I still think it would be something to consider in order to expand
: Inkscapes usability. The shadows have a nice feathered or blurred edge,
: full control with sliders and real time editing, same with the bevels
(15
: bevel types total in XaraX). The ability to use a vector to slice or
cut a
: bitmap shape, another thing that is not possible in at least Illustrator
and
: Canvas, which I find strange considering they are expensive HIGH end
vector
: apps. XaraX is a little over $100.00 and you can do some amazing things
: with it to the point that the Illustrator community on line bad mouths
the
: program because it seems to them that XaraX is not a TRUE vector
program.
: Which is malarkey, it is!!
:
: I think it might be worth a look at to maybe glean some ideas for future
: implementation to make Inkscape really stand out from the rest of the
: Linux/Win based vector/SVG apps.
:
: You can read up on XaraX and there is a download link that will take you
: to a download trial page (Windows only) here:
:
: I think Inkscape has got allot of potential and I would love to see it
: developed not only as a SVG app but as a full fledged vector app with
ALL
: the bells and whistles!! Maybe Windows doesn't need another app like
this
: but Linux sure as heck does. One of the main reasons I don't "go" Linux
all
: the way is the lack of nice, clean, feature rich graphics apps!! Maybe
with
: the release of Kernel 2.6 this will happen and really spur on developers
to
: help fulfill Linus Torvalds dream! :-)
:
: Just my 2¢ and a question!! ;-)
:
: Richard ;-)~
