icon theming
by Jakub Steiner
Hi folks,
I tried to start tweaking inkscape icons so it's less of a blur but
stumbled on some obstacles.
As per some discussion on the #inkscape channel I was convinced I could
use ~/.inkscape/icons/ to store PNG icons with filenames corresponding
to the icons.svg object ids or the old XPM icon set. However this
doesn't appear to have any effect.
Failing that, I tried doing them in vector. While
~/.inkscape/icons/icons.svg does seem to override the global icons, I'm
puzzled about the size. The icons in the toolbar, nor the icons in the
menus seem to match the 1:1 zoom of icons.svg thus any effort trying to
position elements to the raster grid are useless. My 16x16px icon got
scaled down to about 10px in the toolbar. What's the magic here?
I'm still convinced that for small resolutions such as the toolbar and
definitely menu icons, bitmap icons will take less effort to draw. Even
if you do them in vector, you still need to make sure the objects align
well to the grid to render sharp. That means either having menu and
toolbar render at the same size or doing every icon twice anyway. [1]
I see the usefulness of SVG icons, phasing them in gnome icon theme, but
for tiny resolutions they don't work without pixel-perfect positioning.

More issues on Windows?

Answer= YES
But first I would like to say thanks for the product, I think it will be
very useful.
Using Inkscape-0.41-1.win32.exe(file mod dates Feb/8/2005)
When I start Inkscape the extensions listed below fail to load.
BIGGEST ISSUE IS: Why does GIMP Gradients fail, when the dll is in the
plugins folder?
Also, if this plugin was working, can it use my existing gradients
(if we give it a path), or is it for creating them?
I tried dropping a .ggr file into the gradients folder but the editor did
not find it.
When I create a gradient in the editor and save it, I can only use for that
session.
The next time I start up Inkscape and select gradient fill there are no
existing ones to choose.
I believe the Extension scripts you refer to are the .inx files found in
"C:\Program Files\Inkscape\share\extensions", is this correct?
Can these be edited for each user?
I tried to get the EPS ext to not fail.
I edited (with notepad) the eps_input.inx file and put in "my path" to
ghost script in place of the "path" but Inkscape complained and would not
start.
I put the file back to how it was originally but Inkscape still complained.
When I put the backup copy of the file I had made, back into folder Inkscape
started again.
Is there a certain format the .inx must be saved as, like UTF-8 or
something?
OR does it check the file dates?
I added my ghost script path to "Environment Variables" hoping this would
make it find it.
Still got error on EPS Input ext.
I wonder if it has to do with gs actually being gswin32.exe?
All the extensions I can use are exe(windows) type, not compiled by me.
Extensions list:
Extension failed to load because a dependency was not met:
AI Input, AI Output, Dia Input, EPSI Output, EPS Input, GIMP Gradients,
Grid, Postscript Input, Sketch Input, SVGZ Output, Text Input, Windows
Metafile Input.

Subscribing to list?
by Preacher Public
Hi, I'm a long-time follower of Inkscape development, and recently a user
(got my first actual work done a couple of days ago).
I tried to subscribe to the mailing list through the form in the website,
But I didn't get any reply back. So I'm sending this using the email address
there. Who can I contact to subscribe?

make bitmap copy plugin
by Michal Žeravík
Hi all,
I've finally updated to 0.41 on my gentoo box
and tried Make Bitmap Copy with inkscape-shadow.sh script,
but only transparent square image appears.
Script is running :
convert -mattecolor #000f -frame 12x12 -fx '0' -channel A -blur 12x4
New_document_1-path1291-247.png New_document_1-path1291-247.png
and I have
<group
filter="/usr/share/inkscape/extensions/inkscape-shadow.sh"
filter_param1="4"
minsize="30"
id="createbitmap" />
in preferences.
How can I fix that (or return to default behaviour)?
Thank you

Hi there,
although I have gs and pstoedit installed here (Slackware 10.1, Inkscape

message of missing extensions and have no eps and ps import.

As workaround I explicitely entered the path of pstoedit in ps_input.inx
but that changed nothing.
Any ideas from someone?

How is that for user response! Same day turnaround! It also helps when
cool users provide mockups of what they like. There are so many ways to
contribute to the project!

NEW: snapping improvements
by bulia byak
- When several objects (or a group) are selected and the "snap
points" mode is active, only the outermost points or nodes will snap,
instead of all points in selection. [patch by Eric Jonas]
- In the "snap points" mode, a text object will snap its baseline
anchor (the left end of the baseline) to grid or guides. That anchor
point is visualized as a little square mark when a text object is
selected.

Got logo?
by Mark Woodman
Hey all,
The ROME project is an open-source project to help developers easily
read/create syndication feeds in any RSS/RDF/Atom format.
So what? So we need a logo. And we figured you some of you folks
might be interested in submitting some logo designs created with
Inkscape. We're even offering some modest prizes, but we hope you'll
submit entries just for the sake of showing us your stuff.
For more info:
http://wiki.java.net/bin/view/Javawsxml/RomeLogoContest
Thanks and good luck,
Mark (on behalf of the ROME Project development team)
