Single SVG file to multi-page PDF
by donn
Anyone know how I could layout/hack a single Inkscape SVG file so that I
can get a multi-page PDF out the other end?
Inkscape -> layout tricks (maybe layers?) -> some process (maybe command
line) -> PDF file with pages.
At the moment I am laying-out logos and designs on a single 'page' which
can be as tall as 9000 pixels.
Is there a way to 'chop' a single PDF page like that into smaller chunks?

divide overlapping objects
by Maarten van der Velde
If I have three overlapping objects (closed paths), is there a easy way to
'split them up'/divide them using the borders where they intersect?
The 'boolean operations' seem to either divide one object by the other,
removing the top-most one, *or* cut the path (outline) of one using the
other.
Conceptually, if I got three cirlcles, each one overlapping partially all
the others, after this operation, I'd like to end up with 7 separated parts.
Thanks!

Inkscape issue
by DarwinStead.com
Hope I'm sending this to the right people.
I create all my work with Inkscape and it has worked great until my last
drawing. I always "save as" my documents to png's for online viewing, but
the last png is missing artwork on some layers!? I've never had a corrupt
document in Inkscape either. Does this sound like a corrupt document?
Thanks for your feedback.

Re: [Inkscape-user] [Inkscape-devel] Ubuntu installation error
by Susan Spencer
Hi Adib!
I have Ubuntu 12.04 LTS.
Thanks for asking about sources. In response to your questions,
I removed the cafuego PPA from Ubuntu software sources,
Then installed Inkscape trunk 0.48.3.1 r9886 from Ubuntu software center.
Knotter error messages still result but Inkscape is working properly.
( perhaps there is still some reference to knotter in the install/uninstall
script?)
Here's the history of install/reinstall (with Ubuntu software center, not
'sudo apt-get install'):
- added cafuego PPA
- upgraded from 0.48.3.1-ubuntu1.1 to 0.49-devel-12340+11~precise (may 25)
- 0.49-devel-12346 (jun 02)
- 0.49.-devel-12347 (jun 06) - inset/outset errors
- 0.49.-devel-12362 (jun 11)
- 0.49.-devel-12370 (jun 12) - knotter error messages
- removed cafuego PPA (today)
- uninstalled 0.49-devel-12370 - knotter error messages - not 'real'
errors?
- installed 0.48.3.1 r9886 - knotter error messages - not 'real' errors?
- uninstalled 0.48.3.1 r9886 - knotter error messages - not 'real' errors?
- reinstalled 0.48.3.1 r9886 - knotter error messages - not 'real'
errors?
*Inkscape appears to have installed properly because it runs fine (so far).*

Ubuntu installation error
by Susan Spencer
Today's Inkscape update resulted in an error on my laptop with Ubuntu 12.04.
If no one else can corroborate problems with today's
Ubuntu Software Center Inkscape update
then I won't post it on Launchpad.
It's entirely possible that it's my specific installation of Inkscape,
given the recent problem with outsets/insets after
installing nightly build/uninstalling/reinstalling from Ubuntu ppa.
(That problem went away sometime during the past week.)
So, anybody else get this on Ubuntu 12.04 (or other Ubuntu version)
during today's Software Center package update?

Q: How to Generate a Rotated linearGradient whose angle will stick?
by Shlomi Fish
Q: in my extension I have this:
class StyleEffect(GenericAddPathEffect):
def effect(self):
self.xpathSingle(u'svg:defs').insert(0,
inkex.etree.XML('''<svg:linearGradient
xmlns:svg="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg"
id="bk2hp_grad"> <stop style="stop-color:#0000ff;stop-opacity:1" offset="0"
id="b2h_0" />
<stop style="stop-color:#00deff;stop-opacity:1"
offset="0.4"
id="b2h_1" />
<stop style="stop-color:#00deff;stop-opacity:1"
offset="0.6"
id="b2h_2" />
<stop style="stop-color:#0000ff;stop-opacity:1"
offset="1"
id="b2h_3" />
</svg:linearGradient>''')
)
self.xpathSingle(u'svg:defs').insert(1,
inkex.etree.XML('''<svg:linearGradient
xmlns:svg="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg"
xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" id="bk2hp_grad_rot"
gradientTransform="rotate(90)" xlink:href="#bk2hp_grad" />''') )
self.xpathSingle(u'//*[@id="' + main_path_id() + '"]').set( 'style',
simplestyle.formatStyle({ 'stroke': '#888888', 'stroke-width':
'1pt', 'fill': 'url(#bk2hp_grad_rot)',
}
))
Which generates a linearGradient and a rotated version of it. However, when I
move the path filled with the rotation, it reverts to the non-rotated version.
I'm attaching it here. Why is Inkscape doing it? Is it a bug?

Outset/Inset problems - bug or not?
by Susan Spencer
I have Ubuntu 12.04 and Inkscape 0.48+devel r12347
Two weeks ago I installed the nightly build from Inkscape,
then decided against it and
uninstalled/reinstalled Inkscape from Ubuntu software center.
Since then the outset/inset function has generated incorrect results
for some shapes.
Here's a link to a file which demonstrates this problem:
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0BxsnjDIHW4yvRGRhYkVEa0E2UVk/edit?usp=sharing
Is this a bug or has my current installation gone awry?
Thanks for any feedback on this issue!
