Single SVG file to multi-page PDF
by donn
Anyone know how I could layout/hack a single Inkscape SVG file so that I
can get a multi-page PDF out the other end?
Inkscape -> layout tricks (maybe layers?) -> some process (maybe command
line) -> PDF file with pages.
At the moment I am laying-out logos and designs on a single 'page' which
can be as tall as 9000 pixels.
Is there a way to 'chop' a single PDF page like that into smaller chunks?

library problem cross compiling for windows using mingw32
by Auguste Pop
hi,
i was trying to cross compile inkscape under linux for windows using mingw32.
i downloaded inkscape-devlibs and made a softlink to the uncompressed
directory at /target in accordance with the .pc files.
and after./autogen.sh and LDFLAGS=-L/target/lib
CPPFLAGS=-I/target/include PKG_CONFIG_PATH=/target/lib/pkgconfig
./configure --host=i486-mingw32, i got an error:
>> configure: error: Package requirements (glib-2.0 >= 2.24 gtk+-2.0 >= 2.20 libxml-2.0 >= 2.6.11 libxslt >= 1.0.15 cairo >= 1.10 sigc++-2.0 >= 2.0.12 gtkspell-2.0 gthread-2.0 >= 2.0 libpng >= 1.2 gsl glibmm-2.4 giomm-2.4 gdkmm-2.4 gtkmm-2.4 >= 2.10.0) were not met:

i have tried both 0.48.x branch (rev 9886) and the trunk branch (rev
11027). the same error.
any ideas?

Distro with 48.2 package.
by john Culleton
Is there a Linux distro that includes Inkscape 48.2? I have the
usual trouble getting all the libraries installed on slackware.
The libraries are there but Inkscape compile doesn't find them.
It is faster for me just to create another partition and use the
package manager.

02/25 IRC Meeting Agenda
by Josh Andler
Hey all,
Here is a slightly modified agenda for the irc meeting in ~2 hours.
Sorry that the formatting is probably not ideal, it's my first shot as
this is the first official meeting that I can remember in the past 8
years. Just a reminder, the meeting is scheduled for UTC 02/25 0800.
*Inkscape 0.48.3.1 packaging
*Inkscape 0.49
-Remaining refactoring goals
--Handling of svg:switch not as a kind of group, but as a
"transparent" element that is effectively replaced by the best choice
in the SP tree
--SVG 1.1 fallback for flowtext (probably depends on the above)
--UI & Document coordinates
--Markers matching stroke by default (user preference vs current
default behavior)
--Better architecture for LPEs (similar to SVG 2.0 vector effects)
--User visible version numbering
-Status
-Release Plan
*GSOC 2012
-Focus
-Goals
-Mentoring
-Getting new students
*SVG2
-Implementation strategies
--Fallback support for older versions of the spec and inkscape
specific features (markers inheriting properties for example)
-Low hanging fruit
-Most important features to our userbase
--Helping Tavmjong with the Mesh branch
-Initial Vector Effects support (non-destructive boolean ops might be
a good target)
*CSS3 support
*Javascript support
*Membership changes on the Inkscape Board
*What we need in upstream libraries (including 2geom)
*Old/unfinished code
-Lessons learned
-Cleanup
*Release schedule moving forward
-Fixed schedule
-Schedule timing
-Developer needs
-Translator needs
*Platform specific issues (and responsibilities)
*Regular IRC Meetings (monthly is ideal, quarterly would be as a good minimum)
Looking forward to seeing whoever shows up. I want to have these
meeting be painless, but this initial one might be a little more
in-depth given that it's our first and we probably have a bit to
share/discuss and document. I will try to keep us focused if we stray.
Cheers,
Josh

2/25 IRC Meeting Agenda (draft)
by Josh Andler
Hey all,
I just wanted to send out a draft agenda for the upcoming irc meeting
and also seek feedback about what others would like to add to the
list. I will send out a finalized version a couple hours before the
meeting time. Just a reminder, the meeting is scheduled for UTC 2/25
0800.
*Inkscape 0.48.3.1 packaging
*Inkscape 0.49
**Status
**Release Plan
*GSOC 2012
**Focus
**Goals
**Mentoring
**Getting new students
*SVG2
**Implementation strategies
**Low hanging fruit

*Release schedule moving forward
**Fixed schedule

*Platform specific junk (OSX, Windows, etc... and yes, it's junk and
unless people are going to contribute code, we won't stay focused on
it too long)

newbie question...
by Nathan Rollins
I have a CG rendering that I want to create a jagged edge along one side -
like this:
cid:image002.png@...2944...
(well, this shows 2 sides; and I will just need the right side.)
I created this example with Snagit and I am usually content with the
results. But today I am in need of a much larger image: ~10k x 6.6k
(pixels) and Snagit just can't cut it.
I can create a path that sorta looks like what I want, but I am not sure how
to use layers and transparency, etc. to get what I need.
This might be a lot to ask through a forum. If so, please feel free to
direct me to a tutorial, or some other lesson / resource.
Any hints or tips?
Thanks a lot!

SVG 2 Requirements
by Tavmjong Bah
Hi,
As most of you probably know, Inkscape uses SVG as its native file
format. The specification directly influences how easy some features can
be implemented by Inkscape (think arrowhead color matching stroke
color).
The SVG working group is almost finished going through the request for
changes to the specification for SVG 2. This is your chance to influence
the next version of the spec. See my blog post for more details:

Inkscape 0.48.3
by Ted Gould
Happy to announce the 0.48.3 release of Inkscape being out the door. Of
course this is only the source release, binaries will be along shortly.
You can find the LP milestone here:
https://launchpad.net/inkscape/0.48.x/0.48.3
Which reports 68 bugs as Fix Released, from 18 different assignees.
Both impressive numbers. There are files on that page but also at
SourceForge here:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/inkscape/files/inkscape/0.48.3/
For the paranoid I've also included hashes of the files on my system,
love you paranoids!

Oh wow, that is very unfortunate :-(
Should be fixed now.
