Pattern fill + arrows
by Peter Polinak
Hi!
I use Inkscape 0.38cvs, and I cannot find any pattern fill features, however
on the homepage I could find some screenshots of the 0.37 version (6th, 7th
and 9th pictures from above), on which one can clearly see that in the Fill
and Stroke dialog, there are two extra options beside "No Paint", "Paint",
"Linear Gradient" , and "Radial Gradient" . I guess these are some kind of
Pattern Fill features. Where do they come from, and why do I not have them??
The question is the similar regarding the 4th picture from above in the 0.37
screenshots : There is a "Stroke Style" dialog, clearly with arrows! I don't
have such a feature in my version!
>From where do these features come from, why do I not have, and how could I
have them?
Thanks for your answer!

Re: [Inkscape-devel] Re: Stippling with Inkscape
by Jonathan Phillips
I created tipsandtricks.svg which is located at
share/tutorials/tipsandtricks.svg for anyone that wants to add their
tips and tricks. I copied the ones from
http://inkscape.org/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?TricksAndTips. Please look over what
I added up there and fix grammar, etc
Also, I added content onto the elements tutorial. There still needs to
be a final composition image for that tutorial
Also, I added the path icons to the menu. Please look them over, and
critique and change. They look pretty good at regular size, but there
are complaints that it is too hard to see what operation is happening. I
creatd them more as a general template of what should be there for those
icons. If you have better ideas, please implement. I've filled in the
spaces. What do you all think about the Green that Bulia chose anyway? I
think I like it as the secondary color for operations and then the
primary buttons are more decorative. That should prolly be written down
somewhere.
I'm going to be offline for the rest of the week more than likely--I
have to get going on my MFA final stuff (done at UCSD in JUNE).
Happy trails...

Vector Aesthetics Presentation
by Jonathan Phillips
Hello All,
I'm giving another presentation that kinda involves Inkscape at UC
Berkeley on April 04, 2004. Please see http://art.berkeley.edu/040404/
if you are interested in attending. It should be very interesting. The
event is free I believe and has food and whatnot.
I will post info on the talk to the WIKI shortly. It is an overview of a
framework I'm calling Vector Aesthetics. I will only discuss post-Bezier
art/design/etc at the talk, but will end with Inkscape short-note.
Anyone seeking help, or wants to have a little mini-meeting in the area,
then please stop into that talk.
Jon

Inkscape and frontline
by Artemio
Hello!
At inkscape.org I read:
"...If you want to have tracing option, yo have to install both Autotrace and
Frontline before compiling Inkscape. Inkscape automatically detects these
programs, and adds inline raster to vector conversion option to image menu."
I have just compiled and installed autotrace and frontline, they both work
fine. I have compiled today's CVS snapshot of inkscape (it is DAMN cool, by
the way, you guys ROCK!!!), but I can't see any "inline raster to vector
conversion option to image menu".
Please tell me what to do :-(
Thanks and good luck!
Artemio.

Re: [Inkscape-devel] inkscape interface icons (please good reading and reasoning required)
by MenTaLguY
Sorry I missed the whole icons thread, but I've been dealing with family
things the past couple weeks... I'm back now though.
Both you and Jon have raised good points.
I think it makes sense to use SVG files as icons in the same way as PNGs
or XPMs or whatever other formats we also support for icons.
To my mind though, having a single icons.svg is not a bad thing either,
and for right now there are indeed performance reasons to do so. For
the immediate future I think the standard icons should ship in
icons.svg.
But we should offer a range of options for third-party icon sets.
Probably we should support at least:
* #icon-name-goes-here in an SVG file
* icon-name-goes-here.{svg,png,xpm} or whatever in a directory
* icon-name-goes-here.{svg,png,xpm} etc in a .jar file
Also I think we should take better advantage of the standard Gtk icon
themeing facilities.
Regardless, right now I have my hands full with the AST code and other
projects so I can't implement it myself. If someone wants to come
forward with a more detailed design proposal for this (and maybe some
patches?) they are strongly encouraged to do so.
