Get Previews from the Open Clip Art Library
by E. G. A.
Just an absolute newbie running Inkscape 0.48.2 in a well working,
really beautiful, vintage declared but loved computer (2.1 GHz PowerPC
G5 & Mac OS X.5.8).
To get Previews from the Open Clip Art Library*, it is needed to be
registered at the openclipart.org site and fill up the user account data
in the Inkscape Preferences**?
* File > Import from Open Clip...
** Import/Export > Open Clip Art Library Username & Password.
Thank you.

Newbie - walk cycle
by Steve Lett
I'm attempting for the first time to animate a walk cycle in Inkscape and I
need some general advice on how to go about it. Is Inkscape the best free
program to use for 2d animation, or should I use gimp? And after that is
decided, how should I approach this task? And more specifically, how do I
keep the leg a uniform thickness when changing its position?
Thank you, Leonardo Paradox

Jabier has provided some information, but no one's stepped forward to
help author/edit the idea.
I'm adding the inkscape-user community to the discussion.
Dear users. If you'd like to help inkscape in a small way, we require
a piece of news to be written/edited for the recent hackfest. It's an
exciting event where inkscape developers got together to talk about
the future of inkscape. The job involves going to some of the
attendees on irc or via email and conducting a small interview. Use
questions you yourself would be interested in hearing about and
construct a 200-400 word article. Multi language versions acceptable.
Please respond in public on the list if you're interested.

"Assertion Failed" error msg (serious?)
by Brynn
Hi Friends,
I had an error message I haven't seen before, while working with
Inkscape, and it seemed to be fairly serious. It did not technically crash,
but it effectively crashed not just Inkscape, but I had to restart my
computer! I wonder if I should make a bug report for it?
The reason I wonder, instead of just making a new report, is that I
don't have a file to offer. I did manage to grab a screenshot though, which
is attached. So you can at least see the error message. Otherwise all I
have is my verbal explanation.
Briefly, after the error msg, anything and everything on my screen
was sort of frozen in place. For example, when I moved the error msg over,
to be able to save and close windows, it sort of just smeared what looked
like 15 or 20 copies of the error message across the screen (just like if
you spread out a deck of cards across a table). If I maximized a window
from the taskbar, it became frozen there. Even after I closed it, it was
still there. And somehow, the font menu remained on top of everything (I
was using the Text tool at the time of the error message).
I managed to close everything out from the taskbar, and restart, and
now I'm back to normal. There are a lot of details I've left out, because I
know a lot of people don't like to read long messages on the mailing list.
But I'll be glad to write out all the details, if anyone is interested and
can use the info. Or let me know if you want me to write a bug report.

Compiling a list of active Inkscape IRC channels
by Maren Hachmann
Hi everybody,
we need your help to collect a list of active Inkscape user IRC channels
for the website.
So far, we have:
irc://irc.freenode.org/#inkscape
irc://irc.freenode.org#inkscape.de
irc://irc.freenode.org#inkscape-fr
Are there any other active channels, maybe in other languages (esp.
Spanish, Portuguese, and maybe Russian, Chinese, Japanese - or any other
language ;))?
Thank you!

Batch export is saving the files where?
by Perry Kappetein
I am confused with the batch export under the Export
I have 40 images, and select them all and do batch export.
Its exporting the 40 images, but where?
I've done it a few times, and sometimes I have 20 icons on my desktop, all named g....png ( g with a 4 digit number)
And other times, there are no icons..
So where is it saving it?
Ive read the help, but that talks about changing the settings, which you can't, since it's greyed out
Thank you

Thank you Gian, that looks like the right font and have nowinstalled it on my computer. I have now created a new file with just the yearand need to figure out a way to create a white background and just stick it on topof the old year. Or maybe just a white square to cover up the year. I amgetting too old to relearn how to use inkscape...... lol.
Thanks to you too Maren, I followed your instructions and gotto the point where it says remove the bitmat image but could see only one layer so guess somethingwent wrong. I really only want to removethe year and keep the rest as it is. I did create it originally in inkscape a few years ago, drawing and all......... if only I could remember how I did it, I would be veryhappy.
I really appreciate you all trying to help,
