Single SVG file to multi-page PDF
by donn
Anyone know how I could layout/hack a single Inkscape SVG file so that I
can get a multi-page PDF out the other end?
Inkscape -> layout tricks (maybe layers?) -> some process (maybe command
line) -> PDF file with pages.
At the moment I am laying-out logos and designs on a single 'page' which
can be as tall as 9000 pixels.
Is there a way to 'chop' a single PDF page like that into smaller chunks?

Inkscape Website: Translation Instructions
by Martin Owens
Hey Devs and Users,
I've updated the wiki explaining the new Inkscape website's translation
instructions. New translations have accidentally overwritten the English
content in some places (especially the front page) so to avoid this I've
put together a brief explanation of why the front page is hard to edit.
http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/WebSite#Translations
Please do copy plugins into your local language instead of editing the
English versions. All editors are reminded that each language can have
different plugins for the same content-location if they wish.

have you editing the CMS.

divide overlapping objects
by Maarten van der Velde
If I have three overlapping objects (closed paths), is there a easy way to
'split them up'/divide them using the borders where they intersect?
The 'boolean operations' seem to either divide one object by the other,
removing the top-most one, *or* cut the path (outline) of one using the
other.
Conceptually, if I got three cirlcles, each one overlapping partially all
the others, after this operation, I'd like to end up with 7 separated parts.
Thanks!

problem with unit selection drop downs
by "René Staffen"
Hi,
Sorry. i wasn't aware that the webmailer (that i use very rarely) uses html as default.
here again in plain text:
I hope someone can help me.
I have a problem with my inkscapes (i had 0.48.2... and upgraded to 0.48.4.r9939 without success, OS: german WinXP 32bit) unit selection boxes.
Especially the ones in the document property dialog (but also in some other dialogs).
the "default unit" and "unit" drop down lists are empty. they are very small and the drop down button is inactive (grey).
So i cannot change the units.
I allready tried removing preference file to reset to defaults. i changed the language from german to english. but the problem does not disapears.
The only boxes that i could found that seems to work is the one in the toolbar if an object was selected and the one in the stroke style dialog.
document propertys/page, document propertys/grids, transform, inkscape preferences/grid, inkscape preferences/Interface are not working.
Any hints?
regards
René

Inkscape->Illustrator, keep layers intact
by Chris Mohler
Hi list!
I usually lurk on inkscape-devel, and this is my first post here.
I'm looking for help with creating multi-layer drawings in Inkscape
and opening them in Illustrator while preserving the layer structure,
if possible. Any tips?
I use both programs all the time, but usually when I'm going
back-and-forth between the two it's something simple - a trace, a
single layer, etc., not a multi-layer composition.
Thanks,
Chris

Latest Inkscape download
by Ken
I am not sure if I am contacting the correct person but here is my inquiry. My desktop computer crashed. I purchased a lap and downloaded the latest version of Inkscape. My issue now is that the font, Venus Rising, which I have used for all of my logos and TM is not showing up in this latest version. I'm not sure if I downloaded incorrectly or if I need to download an earlier version. Thank you for any help you can provide.
Best Regards
Ken

"Edit paths by nodes" uses different and wrong approximation of arc as bezier curve.
by Auguste Pop
Hi
I have noticed an inconsistency between "Edit paths by nodes" and "Object
to path".
If we press F4 to draw an rectangle with rounded corner and then use
"Object to path" to convert it to path, the rounded corners are
approximated by one bezier curve at a corner. The bezier curve uses
traditional method which ensures the middle point of the bezier curve is on
the arc, and of course the zero and first degree continuity at end points.
To put it in maths, for an arc on unit circle of length theta, the distance
between first and second control point of the four control points of bezier
curve is 4/3*tan(theta/4).
However, if we draw the same rectangle with manual edited path with A/a in
path description element d, and use "Edit paths by nodes" to show the
nodes, we have different approximation. We can press "Insert new nodes into
selected segments" to get the representation in text in "XML Editor". We
can see, every corner is represented by two bezier curves. That's not a big
problem. The problem is for every bezier curve, the distance between the
first and second control point of the four control points of the
approximating bezier cuver is theta/3, if we transform the arc onto an unit
circle. That's simply wrong.
Should I file a bug report? Please comment.

I just noticed that, although the headings on the keys048.html page
say 'Scale handle (1 node selected)' and 'Rotate handle (1 node
selected)', the fine print says 'May apply to more than one node' for
both. I don't know what that is supposed to mean. In both cases,
Tavmjong Bah's manual says 'These items only apply when one node is
selected'.
