Red Spiral Challenge
by Aaron Elmquist
Does anyone know how to creat the red spiral with the continuous gradient in
Tavmjong Bah's "A Guide to Inkscape" I took a couple cracks at it last
night without much sucess.

color print
by H.Lekin
Hi,
I started using Inkscape 6 weeks ago. I went to a print shop to get a
color drawing - exported as PNG - printed. On this print, a blue
gradient fill turned into a blue to dirty-green fill.
Do you have to transform color space afore?
How do you usually do this?
Convert PNG to TIF, transform RGB to CMYK with embedded profile?
Make a PDF/X-3 via Scribus?
If via SVG import, how do you handle tranparency?
What standard color profile do you use, if you don't know exactly on
which machine you are going to print?
Or was this color shift just caused by a misconfiguration of Photoshop
in the print shop?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Calligraphic pens and paths
by Benct Philip Jonsson
Is there any hope that Inkscape will ever
allow to apply calligraphic pens to paths
the way Illustrator does? Is it hard to
implement? Are the Adobe guys sitting on
some patent there? Is it only I who want it?
It would create a dedicated Linux user as
it would remove my last incentive to ever use
Windows...

Landscape printing
by Abrolag
I'm a bit out of the loop here lately. Did the problems of landscape
printing get resolved?
Currently (with V 0.46) I have to save the file as a PDF via cairo then
load this into evince and print from there.

[OS X] X11 clipboard vs. OS X pasteboard
by ~suv
X11 (Xquartz) v.2.3.x has several preferences to sync between OS X
Pasteboard and X11 CLIPBOARD and PRIMARY buffers.
While testing 0.46+devel rev21339 I noticed that in Inkscape
copying/pasting to/from the clipboard always resulted in bitmaps with
all vector information lost (no Paste Style, Paste Size possible) -
restoring default Inkscape preferences didn't help.
It seems that the X11 preference 'Update Pasteboard when CLIPBOARD
changes' somehow prevents Inkscape from keeping vector information in
the clipboard even when ^C/^V objects/shapes in one drawing or between 2
windows.
Unchecking said option in X11 disables clipboard xfer from Inkscape to
native OS X applications and restores full Inkscape functionality.
Can someone verify on a updated system (10.5.6 with X11 2.3.2 or 10.5.7
with X11 2.3.3) if the 'out-of-the-box' installation disables Inkscapes
native clipboard functions? I could not find related infos in Inkscape
Wiki or launchpad answers/bugs.

... nodes on the path to 0.47
by Donna Benjamin
Hi everyone!
Time for a bit of an update on where things are at with the upcoming
release! Here's some quick points... others may have more to add in
reply.
1. We've made a start on the release announcement...
http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/AnnouncePlanning047
But could do with some help getting it finished off!
The release notes show what's new and different
http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/ReleaseNotes047
So the major new features and improvements need to be summarised and
added to the release, and we need to get the translations started too!
2. We are gathering user stories to help show the world how we use
Inkscape and why we love it! This will help us bring life to the press
release announcements... much more interesting to read what real people
thinkm rather than some dull press release!
http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/UserStories047
Add your story now! :)
You can also help out by blogging about Inkscape and using twitter and
identi.ca to spread the word! Perhaps add a line to your email signature
like I have. (see the bottom of the this email)
Perhaps someone could make some 0.47 is coming badges for people to add
to their websites and blog posts?
3. The about screen contest has produced some amazing work!
http://inkscapers.deviantart.com/journal/24582792/
Congratulations to everyone who has submitted such fantastic
contributions - I'm blown away by everyone's creativity and talent!
And soon we can all join in with the voting!
4. regular .deb snapshots are available here
http://ubuntu.cafuego.net/dists/jaunty-cafuego/inkscape/
[find me on #inkscape if you want a new snapshot and it's been over a
week since one was posted]
5. We should have regular windows builds coming online for testing next
week.
cheers
Donna
