using a group for a clipping path
by brynn
Hi Friends,
It's just come to my attention that it's possible to use a group as a
clipping path. Should that be possible?
If so, don't the multiple objects have the potential to cause trouble,
if the file becomes very large and/or complex? I mean, if nothing else, it
certainly has the potential to add unwanted or unneeded weight to the file.
Just on observation, it's not possible to edit the clipping path, when a
group is used. In my simple test, the green clipping path is only showing
around one of the objects in the group. And it's displaced.
There's an SVG file attached to this message:
https://forum.inkscapecommunity.com/index.php?topic=1160.0
The silly distorted face is a group which is ready to be used to clip
the dark blue rectangle. So you can see that it does work to use a group for a
clipping path. And if you switch to the Node tool after that (and enable the
clip path button), you can see that the smile path is displaced, and is the only
part of the group which is showing as the clipping path.
Is all this expected behavior? What legitimate purpose is there, for
using a group as a clipping path?
I've always gone to such pains (apparently) to use a single path for
clipping. I guess if a group can be used, then a compound path, with mutliple
subpaths could be used as well? I just don't understand why it's possible.
Thanks for comments.

Survey about Inkscape UX
by JORGE LUIZ FRANZON ROSSI
Hi! I’m a Computer Science student at Federal University of Technology in
Brazil and my group it’s doing a research about Inkscape. The focus of this
work is at studying Human-Computer Interaction aspects, by collecting
opinions from community and analyzing issues related to User Experience at
Launchpad. It would be a great help if you can take a few minutes of your
time to answer the questions of this form. Your identity will not be
revealed and your answers are anonymous. If you wish to receive the
research results, please leave your email address below.
Best regards.

unable to open older version
by brynn
Hi Friends,
I've just downloaded a fresh copy of version 0.48.5, the 7z package.
But when I try to open inkscape.exe file, I get an error. This is on Windows 7
Pro, 64-bit, but approx 1 year old laptop.
Application was unable to start correctly 0xc0000005. (only available button is
OK, or X to close)
I have done some searching on the error, and tried some of the
troubleshooting steps - at least the ones I understand. No success yet.
Of course it's not vital that I get this version open, but I do
occasionally need older versions to help users with problems. As far as I can
recall, I have had this version open a few months ago - maybe 4 to 6 months ago.
I have no idea what might have changed. But since that's the format for Windows
errors, I'm thinking it's a problem with Windows.
Does anyone have any experience with this, or have any idea how to fix?
Thanks for any comments,
brynn

How to eliminate aria-label, flowRoot and rdf from my SVGs
by Steve Litt
Hi all,
I've created a bookwriting format called Stylz, which can be turned
into an HTML doc or ePub by running a program.
I check the ePubs with a very strict program called epubcheck, and the
only errors it still finds are errors in my SVG images, even after I
saved the SVGs as plain-svg. Specifically, it complains about my <rdf>
elements, my <flowRoot> elements, and my aria-label attribute. Can I
just remove the two elements and delete the attribute, or do I need to
do something else to preserve the look of the image while getting rid
of these three?
Thanks,
SteveT
