Printing on an iMac G5

I have installed X11 to get Inkscape up and running but cannot print. I have an HP printer set-up which works no problem in OS 10.4 mode but it doesn't seem to recognise X11. Can anyone help please? Inkscape moves to subversion

Hi all, For those of you not on inkscape-devel, note that we've just this morning switched over from using CVS to using Subversion (SVN) for source code management. For those of you not already highly familiar with CVS, you should probably find Subversion a tad easier. On the other hand, if you're familiar with CVS already but haven't tried Subversion before, you'll have a bit of retraining to do, but subversion is similar enough to cvs that you shouldn't find it to be too difficult. Whichever case, you'll see several benefits to this change. With CVS, anonymous CVS checkouts were always delayed by an hour or more, but subversion will allow completely synchronized access. I suspect performance will also be a LOT better than with CVS. The web viewer is also a bit better. There is a potential cost to this change, beyond the work we each have to do to adapt. This is an experimental service from SF, which means we can expect there may be some occassional outages or other temporary issues; SourceForge promises to be responsive to reports of issues, so please report issues to them. However, the value of switching to subversion is felt to be well worth this risk, so hopefully things will go smoothly and we all will benefit from the new capabilities. Bryce

snapping to objects?

I have read in the roadmap that snapping to objects is slated for version 0.48 of Inkscape. However, I have a problem now which I think may be related to this and I would be grateful for any assistance or pointers anyone could give me. I am using Inkspace 0.43 under Mac OS X 10.4.3. I want to be able to generate PNGs on the fly with Cocoon, so I have SVG templates which I create with Inkspace and transform with XSLT. That part works well. However, I have noticed that contiguous objects in the template are often rendered with a gap between them. Inkspace does this itself when I zoom in on the image, and the Batik rasterizer does it too. I can't overlap the objects at all because they are partially transparent. Is there a way of fixing this problem with Inkspace? Or is it a feature? Of SVG? Regards Steve

Any trick for sub-, superscript?

Hi there, does someone know of a simple, quick way to create smaller text in high or low position? I know that superscript and subscript are not yet implemented in Inkscape due to svg-issues, so I'm asking here if someone has a way to circumvent it. I often have to make drawings of physical stuff with formulas and mathematical expressions in it and changing size and position (via [ALT]+ [ARROW UP/DOWN]) of each sign is quite a drag. And what's also quite disturbing is that text that is created in such a way doesn't keep it's attributes when edited. So maybe somebody has a good trick for me... TIA Cheerz Lars

EPS Import

I know this has been discussed a number of times and I have tried to follow the trail of breadcrumbs but I have hit a wall. To import eps files into Inkscape WinXP you need to set the correct dependancies in the extensions files. Ok, so I set the eps file gs path, I set the ps file pstoedit path and then I went to the sk file. I do not seem to have skconvert? I installed sketch for windows ok but no skconvert. Does anyone know where I can get skconvert for Win32? Thanks, Tony

Missing 'Effects' menu

Hi all, I'm studying Inkscape by following the examples in the manual. And I'm confused by the following sentences: ''' Select the shadow then call up the effect from the `Effects' menu. Set the Blur Width to 5 and the Number of Steps to 11. ''' But there is no `Effects' in the menu bar. Could you point out where I can find this menu or is it a new feature in Inkscape 0.43? Hi, recently there has been some discussion about a forum <-> mailing list interface on this list: http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/message.php?msg_id=14031338. have I am using RForum (http://rforum.andreas-s.net) for various Ruby-related mailing lists on http://www.ruby-forum.com, and have received a lot of positive feedback. I'm planning to extend the site to include other mailing lists, and I have offered Bryce to create a forum that mirrors the inkscape-user list. It will show up on ruby-forum.com for now, but in the future it will be possible to give it its own subdomain where only the inkscape-user forum will be displayed (e.g. forum.inkscape.org). clip art upload fails

Hi, I tried to upload a svg-file to open clip art. It was made with inkscape, saved as plain svg. I followed exactly the instructions, everything seemd to be all right, but when I later tried to open it in "Incoming Clip Art", the file was empty. There were also a lot of other empty files. Only a very few files are not empty. I think, I did anything wrong. But I haven't any idea what. Can somebody here perhaps tell me the secret, how to upload? Regards, Hago

Question for snappers

To everyone who uses snapping in Inkscape: We plan to make _screen pixels_ (not px units) the default unit for snapping distance, so that e.g. snapping at 5 pixels remains the same distance on screen regardless of zoom. The question is, do you still need absolute (not zoom-independent) units for specifying snap distance? If so why? If there are no voices in defence of abs units, we will remove them altogether and use _only_ screen pixels. OT: Using SVG with mozilla-firefox

Hey, Has anyone used SVG with firefox? Using porable firefox 1.5, (freshly downloaded) this gives me weird results! Both SVGs were created with InkScape, and are just plain (small) red triangles. The 'embed' version seems to work ok, but only the first 'object' triangle is displayed, and nothing after the 2nd - for example the word 'after' is never printed. Hi list, I was looking for a UML logo in different formats, but I didn't find out a large one. So I did one in inkscape. I just want to know if is possible to publish it on the openclipart.org or we need to ask to OMG (http://www.omg.org/legal/graphical_style.htm) to use publish it ? I just believe that the UML logo is a trademark. It is possible to publish it as public domain without ask OMG ? Importing .ai Files

I have been trying to figure out how to import .ai files into Inkscape. Has anyone succeeded in doing this? I have installed ImageMagick, PerlMagick, and have a current enough version of perl installed. I am running ubuntu Breezy and installed ImageMagick and PerlMagick through Synaptic. When I attempt to import an .ai file, I get the "warning" message shown below in the Import dialog window. Has anyone else had similar troubles? If so, why and what am I doing wrong? I know that Inkscape can only handle older .ai files. Am I trying to import an .ai format that is too current? Thanks, -Ben Stafford. Printing configuration problems (can't set printer)

Hi, I can't seem to figure out how to get inkscape to send the output to the correct printer: When I select the "Print/Ctrl-P" menu item, it just sends the file to a printer without providing a choice or dialog. I can 't seem to find a settings dialog for a default printer. When I use "Print Direct", I get a valid ps file that does print properly via lpr. (And looks great!) I am running Inkscape 0.43. I am running Gentoo system, with libgnomeprint-2.10.3 and gnome of 2.10. Printing from gedit brings up a printer selection dialog and works properly. Any ideas? Is this the correct behaviour for Ctrl-P, or should there be a dialog? (If there are any developers reading) It also seems to me that the menu items are inconsistant/wrong. An ellipsis in a menu item to me implies there will be a follow-up dialog, whereas one without performs a direct action, so it should be (assuming that the correct behaviour for Print is to *not* bring up a dialog) "Print Direct ..." Yesterday I decided to install the 64 bit version of Kubuntu on my laptop. When I went to install the autopackage of Inkscape 0.43 an error occurred when it tried to download and install autopackage itself: "autopackage/libexec/autosu-gtk: error while loading shared libraries: libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory" This suggests to me that it's a problem with my machine trying to install autopackage, not with how Inkscape's specific package was set up -- however because there had been a problem in the past with some of the development build packages I wanted to check in and make sure. (Currently the kubuntu apt-get resources only contain the 0.42 release, or I'd just that...) Christopher B. Angles

Is it possible to measure angles in inkscape. I have completed the second edition of my crime scene symbols (will upload to open clip art) and I am now attempting to create templates for bloodstain pattern analysis. I can accurately measure bloodstains and use those figures for trajectory analysis with inkscape (very cool). In order to take the next leap I would need to be able to measure angles in inkscape. The long range goal would to have a worksheet in inkscape where the entire stain can be reconstructed and the point of origin determined. Great for court and easy to use. Currently investigators are using measuring tapes and protractors. Inkscape is an incredible program and thanks to all of those that work so hard to make it all that it is.

Text spacing.

Hi. I need paste a long text in my image, and I would like to add the text spacing, i mean the space between two letters. I found out i can use Alt+Right, but using this way i need to add the space after every single symbol. Is there a way to do it automagically? thanks a lot.

Hello, I'm interested in a free "whiteboard" program, for teaching over the internet. I saw that inkscape is supposed to include inkboard, which sounds like it should do exactly what I want. New set of crispy icons for Inkscape

Hello all, I've made a new set of Icons for Inkscape ("crispy_icons.svg"). You may find them in may home page along with some crude instruction... http://placide.home.sapo.pt/inkscape/index.html I know it is not a beauty?!? My goal was to make icons: - Crispy - Similar to the ones from the stock icons (gnome) Since 16x16 px icons are quite small I create a pixel grid and made the icons this exact same size. Of course if, for some reason, we change their size, they won't look as good anymore (but who wants to do that?!). the file is a little bit bigger than the original. If this is an issue, I can try to make it smaller (I don't know if it is possible). I left some icons on the up right corner of the page since I don't know what they are for?! Of course feel free to do what ever you want with them they are totaly free, use and abuse (GPL or whatever, I have to read it some day!). Anyway, this is my small contribution to this amazing project... Plácido Sousa. PS: I am planing to put them in the Wiki page about interface/icons but it doesn't let me.
