custom default not retaining zoom level

Hi Friends, While helping someone on a forum regarding a custom default template, I made a new default.svg template, to test what they reported. I was not able to reproduce their issue, but I might have discovered a different one. I set the zoom level to 100%, changed display units, and switched to landscape orientation. (Also changed bg color and alpha, and added some text, so as not to be confused with my existing custom default.) Everything worked as I expected, except it does not retain the zoom level. My existing custom default does open at 100%, as I expect. But this new one that I made with 0.92.1 does not. Not sure if I should attach it here, but I'll upload it, in case you need to see it. https://inkscapecommunity.com/jd/default-brynn.svg (Of course when I tested, it was named default.svg. Just added my name into the title for clarity.) Windows 7, 64-bits, Inkscape 0.92.1, 64-bits, exe installer. Shouldn't it be expected to keep the zoom level at which I saved it? [Manual] Update

Hi Manual folks (and those who want to join us), we have reached a major milestone today: TRANSLATIONS ARE DONE :D 59 of 59 chapters translated! :) The only thing that is left to do for this step is to remove that task from the Community ToDo list on the Inkscape website ;-) (this one: https://inkscape.org/contribute/to-do-list/). I'm going to do that tomorrow. I'm so happy that we're now through with this, and now have a preliminary version available for people to look at. I also would like to thank Sylvain Chiron and Hinerangi Courtenay, who worked on the translations of the first section, for their help with this huge task. What else happened this week? ============================= - brynn's news item about the manual effort has been polished a bit further, reviewed by its author, and was published. You can read it all here now: https://inkscape.org/en/news/2017/06/06/new-inkscape-beginners-manual/ (it has also been translated to four other languages by our website translators' team). - JP, a new team member joined us as a test user on gitlab. JP wants to help by giving us feedback on how the book chapters work for new Inkscape users. - Jabier played a bit with setting up cover images on flossmanuals. - Brynn started proofreading, and has looked over the first three chapters in the second section already :) What's next? ============ The next tasks concern images and proofreading, and can be done in parallel. Images: ------- - pictures that we will keep will need English file names. These are (currently) all pictures that do not contain any (French) text. - pictures that need to be replaced or edited need to be re-made. This concerns all pictures with French text in them. For some, we may get away with just cutting off the French text, and putting its translation next to the image in the book. Others need to be shot again. Inkscape Use Case (Possibly atypical - print & digital for a martial arts association)

Hello all, I just wanted to chime in to let people know of my use case that might be atypical. I have been volunteering for a non-profit martial arts organisation, the Canadian Iaido Association, for the past 18 years and I use and have used inkscape for a large variety of print & digital graphics for the association. I think I started using Inkscape around 2005 or so - mostly for my own personal pet project images and graphics, but around 2010 or so I started to use Inkscape heavily for the Canadian Iaido Association. Here is a small list of what I've made with Inkscape: 1) Certificates (something to give to students who pass grading as a memento for yearly seminars). This involves Japanese kanji, hiragana, and katakana - along with some raster graphics which were unavoidable. I have used a plugin to add print marks which I then send off to a printer to print - my workflow for this has been working flawlessly for about 3-4 years. I export to PDF with some set values and I get really high quality printed certificates from a local print-shop. I use a unicode Japanese hiragana font I found online and vertical text. I have gotten many comments on how nice the certificates are. 2) Banners: one of which is ~15 feet long with Japanese text, English text, and our Canadian Iaido Association Mon (crest). Each of these was sent to another local printer who printed the graphics directly onto vinyl. We installed some grommets in the banner and we hang it and use it year after year for the seminar. 3) Graphics for our website: http://www.iaido.ca. All graphics on there beyond photos are created with inkscape - please don't judge the website! It was made in 2002! (It should be getting a new redesign in the near-ish future) 4) Tracing and converting an old raster image of the Canadian Iaido Association mon into a vector graphic (Worked great, converted the text to the proper fonts and was able to modify some Japanese kanji when our status in Japan changed) Overall, I highly recommend Inkscape for vector graphics - it has been an utter lifesaver that has allowed us to have professional quality results with zero cost beyond my volunteer time. I want to sincerely thank everyone who is involved in this project. In my opinion it's clearly a shining example of what the open source community can accomplish. how do I draw a donut?

Hi All, I am trying to draw a no parking sign. A red circle with width (donut) with a red slash through it. The I will add text of choice ("No Crabby Bosses", etc.). I guess w So far I can draw a solid circle, but I only want the circle to have width. How do I do this? gcode tools support lacking

Hi Friends, It's been well over a year since the team who created Inkscape's gcode tools, have answered requests for support in their forum, cnc-club (see link in Extensions menu > Gcodetools > About). There currently are not any users who participate in forums, who understand these tools who are apparently interested in helping. Is there anyone in the community who would be willing to be contacted (in lieu of regularly visiting forums) with questions about the gcode tools, when they come up (which is more and more lately)? Or does anyone know of any resources, such as tutorials? I only know of one...oh great, and I guess I've misplaced the link. But it's fairly limited. (I've even offered to write tutorials for the gcode tools, if the cnc-club forum would collaborate - no answer.) Personally, if the community can't provide support for our own tools, well.... I guess I'd have to start refering users elsewhere, for producing the gcode. Some have already started referring elsewhere (http://www.inkscapeforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=32491) Of course I don't want to do that. But this is a frustrating. last used style

Hi Friends, I've been trying to get my nerve up to ask about this, since I first used Inkscape, 10 years ago. So here goes. Can anyone give me a good reason for having all the tools styles set, by default, to last used style? In 10 years, I have never met, seen, or heard of anyone who needs this feature; while we have to answer this same general problem for newbies over and over and over again. Countless times I've answered these messages. I'll bet I don't even need to give examples, do I? I would guess it's the single biggest stumbling block for newbies. It certainly must be the single most asked question by newbies. At least in forums, and probably LP Answers. I can imagine rare scenarios, where someone might actually use this feature. But if I want an object the exact same style as the one before, I simply duplicate (or copy/paste, or paste style). So it's a mystery to me why last used style should be the default behavior, when we have all these other perfectly suitable features, which don't cause newbies (and those who help them) so many headaches. I understand if we might not want to throw it out the window ((although that's what I would do with it, haha)). But is there any chance we could at least not have it to be the default behavior? When we first download and open Inkscape for the first time, all the tools have a characteristic style. If I recall, it's a pink rectangle, light blue circle, yellow star, and green spiral, with darker tones for the strokes, and all partially transparent. And for Pencil and Pen, I guess it's the black stroke. Could we just keep those styles, but set all the tools for "This tool's own style" instead of "Last used style"? And could we have this the default behavior for when newbies first install Inkscape? Oh, it would save us SO, so much time, those of us who answer newbie questions, day in and day out. I'd be so happy to write up a bug/feature request report for this, if there isn't some serious objection. Thanks for listening, brynn

Scribus 1.5.3 released

The Scribus Team is proud to announce the release of development release 1.5.3, another major step on the way to Scribus 1.6.0. In addition to being a milestone in terms of typographic features, the Scribus Team is convinced that 1.5.3 has become stable enough to be used in new workflows and documents in a similar way to the transition from 1.3.3.x to 1.4.0 after the release of version 1.3.6. However, care must be taken, because this is still a development release. Scribus 1.5.3 is very fast and has been thoroughly tested. Generally, everything that works reliably in 1.4.x also works in 1.5.3, but it's faster and more versatile. On top of that, it includes additional and already overwhelmingly reliant features galore. Most Important Changes ====================== - The most important change isn't immediately visible, namely a completely rewritten text layout engine, which supports complex scripts like Arabic, Hindi or Thai, as well as providing access to advanced OpenType features, such as ligatures and alternate glyphs. - Altogether, about 500 languages and/or scripts are supported. Please note that as of version 1.5.3, Scribus is supposed to render these diverse writing systems, which still needs thorough testing by those who are familiar with them. - Typing on the canvas and text rendering in general has become a lot faster. - Previews for fonts are now available in font selectors. - The "Text" tab has been removed from the Properties Palette and is now a separate UI palette. - The performance of copying and pasting objects in/from/to files with huge color palettes has been vastly improved. - An import filter for Krita's KRA format has been added. - Scribus now follows the XDG standard for configuration files. Therefore, the Scribus preferences directory has moved from ~/.scribus/ to a new default location: ~/.config/scribus/ - Color selectors display the color values as a tooltip. - A longstanding problem with the launch option for an external image editing program has been resolved. Until version 1.5.3 it was necessary to manually close the external program before it could be started again from within Scribus. This is no longer necessary. - The "Wikipedia RAL Classic" color palette has been updated, this time using Wikipedia's LAB color values. - A script called "Caption" has been included, which adds a text frame to an image frame, based on the latter's proportions. - The "Autoquote" scripts now supports inverted guillemets via the "de-g" parameter. - Code improvements have been made based on recommendations from using both the Coverity scan tool (https://scan.coverity.com/) and the "clazy" tool (https://github.com/KDE/clazy). These changes improved efficiency, removed bugs and improved security. - Countless bugs, mostly introduced with the new features in earlier releases of 1.5.x, have been fixed. For details see the 1.5.3svn changelog (https://bugs.scribus.net/changelog_page.php?version_id=102) New Dependencies ================ - As of version 1.5.3, the minimum Qt version to compile the program is 5.5. - harfbuzz and libicu, as well as the related development packages are now required. Caveats - Some newly introduced features, like footnotes, may not function as desired, at least not yet. - The file format may undergo some changes between the current release and 1.6.0, so we advise caution when it comes to workflows that use automated document generation or parsing. - Vertical writing systems aren't supported for the time being, but support will be added in a later release. - The Online Help hasn't been completely updated, and it won't be until the final 1.6.0 release. SVGMatrix deprecated?

Hi all, I have a bunch of groups of class "screw", each comprised of a circle screwhead and a smaller square in the center called a screwsquare. In every instance of "screw", screwhead and screwsquare have identical x, y, height, width and r dimensions. Each screw's position is determined by the screw group's transform=translate(xadjust, yadjust). This is done automatically by Inkscape, and furthermore, it's easy to set manually with: myElement.setAttribute('transform','translate(xadjust,yadjust)'); The trouble comes in when you want to *get* that transform. Getting the transform is necessary when you want to move element whatever2 in relation to the location of screw1. Getting the translation is one of the worst documented things I've seen, but the concensus seems to be something like the following (for my screw case where the group has the transform): =============================================================== function screw_coords(screw){ matrix = screw.transform.baseVal.getItem(0).matrix; var coords = []; shead = screw.querySelector('.screwhead'); coords[0] = shead.cx.animVal.value + matrix.e; coords[1] = shead.cy.animVal.value + matrix.f; return(coords); } =============================================================== The preceding is ugly and fragile for a whole number of reasons, it's inobvious and horribly undocumented. But the real problem is it appears to be deprecated: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/SVGMatrix The preceding article says not to use SVGMatrix, and to update code as soon as possible, but remains mute on what you use instead. How the hell do you read a translation? It's a mystery. The following article gives a crazy train regex kludge method to read a translate: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/10349811/how-to-manipulate-translate-tr… If anybody knows the proper secret handshake to read a translate in a non-deprecated, browser independent, non-kludgificent way, please let me know, perhaps with some URLs of docs for such a functionality. Hi everyone, join us for translating and editing the Inkscape Beginners' manual, which is based upon Elisa de Castro Guerra's French book "Initiation à Inkscape" (Original French version available at https://www.flossmanualsfr.net/initiation-inkscape/ - don't translate this one ;-) ) ! The plan is to translate the book from French to English (Sylvain and Hinerangi already did some of the work), and make adjustments as we see fit, then to make it available for people who only start using Inkscape - if possible, accessible directly from inside the Inkscape program. Here are some notes to get you started (we may tweak processes later, if we find better ones): Platform usage ============== This book is written at flossmanuals.net, which is a website that allows for collaborative editing of books about Free/Libre and Open Source Software. Either it's just their file names that need to be changed (Workflow: download image, rename it on your computer, reupload, change link in the Chapter(s), provide meaningful alt text, delete French image) or a new screenshot is needed from the English interface. How to make an *SVG* connector?

Hi all, I want to be able to make an *SVG* connector that doesn't rely on the facilities of Inkscape to do its thing. According to this URL there is such a thing: https://dev.w3.org/SVG/modules/connector/SVGConnector.html#ConnectorElement When I make a connector in Inkscape using the little connector symbol, in XML it shows up as a path, not a connector, and it has inkscape:connector-type. When I save as plain SVG, the inkscape:connector-type goes away, and it's nothing more than a line segment. How do I make a real SVG connector in Inkscape? How to get rid of groups' transform=translate()

Hi all, So I managed to get a line segment to route itself between 2 circles. But if the 2 circles are in a group, and the group's been duped, the circles have the same cx and cy and their group has a different translate(). Ugh! I have to dup groups because I want to input onclick, onmouseover, onmouseout, and class only once on the group. Does anyone know how a group's translate() can be incorporated into its component paths' and circles' x and y or cx and cy so getting a location is as simple as reading cx and cy, rather than doing all sorts of arithmetic with the parent's translate()? It's because svg was designed as a web format and according to the wiki: "Eventually, after long arguments, the CSS working group dictated that one inch would be fixed to 96 pixels regardless of screen resolution" Yea, that's the insanity we are stuck with. Pixels being units of physical measurement. The cure is to never, ever under ANY circumstances uses pixels as a unit of measurement. It was always a bad idea, but since svg was meant to contain css it's kinds what we are stuck with if we want to be/stay compatible with web standards... even the ones that make no goram sense. :) Note: Inkscape still correctly will output your vectors at any dpi you wish, but pixels should always be calculated based on a physical measurement (metric or imperial), and pixels calculated as a dpi. This is not a problem that will go away. The CSS working group will no doubt decide to haphazardly change it again because "retina" displays are so popular, in which case it will probably be 300px / inch. It doesn't matter though. If you're using pixels to calculate witdth, you will have to expect that the width will change based on the pixel size of your output, so best thing is to not do that again in the future. Hi Mick, the change was necessary to be compatible with CSS standards. When you open the file with Inkscape, it will offer to scale it in that dialog where it tells you about the changed size, which intends to make the file compatible again. In your specific case, the option "Scale elements" will hopefully do what you need. Can you try that? As the background to my problem, I use Inkscape to prepare drawings of sides and ends, etc, to be made into model railway carriages. The designs are then opened in the Designer Edition (DE) of Silhouette Studio for cutting out of styrene sheet on the Silhouette Portrait cutting machine. DE can open SVG files, as created with Inkscape. For Inkscape 0.48 and 0.91, this works fine and the parts are cut to the same size as the Inkscape drawing, although it is necessary to ensure that the document properties are set to "default units" of mm and "custom size" "units" of px; if custom size units are left as mm, then the actual size of a part decreases from (say) 110mm to about 88mm. I created a new default template with these properties to ensure that the Inkscape drawings would always cut at the right sizes. When Inkscape 0.92 was released I downloaded it and I have just used it to draw out another carriage. I then opened the svg file in DE and without examining it, sent it to the cutter. The parts seemed too small. I then realised that the default template was no longer in mm/px, but was now in mm/mm. When I altered the document properties back to mm/px, I opened the file in DE and examined the size of the parts. I now find that the part which should have been 110mm is now about 117mm. This is clearly useless for making scale models. I opened in v 0.92 a file which was originally created in Inkscape 0.91 and received the message that the original file was drawn at 1 inch = 90 px, but the new version uses 1 inch = 96 px. Moderators work together to make decisions about each reported item (image, comment or member). No particular skills are needed. The biggest qualification is to care about maintaining the website as a beautiful and safe place for members to show their Inkscape work and interact. Most days you would only need to spend 15 to 20 minutes or less, although in the beginning, a little more time will probably be needed to become familiar with the system. SVG Clickmap Landmines

Hi all, I think I understand SVG clickmaps now, how to make them, how to troubleshoot them, and the like. But it took a long time to learn because I kept running into time consuming problems. There's documentation about those problems, but it's scattered all over the web, and much of it's contradictory. I'd still be trying to put it together if not for the help of several people on this mailing list, and I thank you for that. So to ease the path of those who follow me, I put up a map of the landmines one's likely to run into while learning/using SVG clickmaps. Once a person knows these landmines exist, he/she can go about his/her business, and if something goes wrong, a simple reference to the landmines page substitutes for hours of web search and experimentation. Hi all, If you're working with Object Properties you might be tempted to check "Lock" so the object can't receive focus on a web page. Makes perfect sense. But be aware that it also prevents the object from receiving focus in Inkscape itself, so there's no way to unlock it short of going into the XML itself and deleting the line that locks it. I did it with Gvim, you might be able to do it with Inkscape's XML view: I didn't try. Pothole alert

Hi all, There's a pesky pothole you can fall into on the Embedded Script Files subtab of the Scripting tab of the Document Properties dialog. You click the plus sign, a script ID appears in the Script ID list, so you say "good, now I'll type in all the functions into the Content field." Bzzzt, you've just lost time, and without just the right moves it will be all the time you spent typing into that little, unenlargeable Content field. You had forgotten to highlight the script ID, and the second you do, all your functions vanish. Or, if you save and go on to other things, you lose all your functions. ALWAYS make sure you highlight the script ID BEFORE typing into the Content field. Better yet, type your functions in an editor, where you have all the room you need and all your familiar editing facilities. Then, click the plus sign, highlight the new script ID, and then copy your functions from your editor and paste them into the little Content field. If you ever notice that you've typed functions into the content field without highlighting the script ID, copy all your work out of the content field, paste it into an editor, highlight the script ID, and then copy from the editor and paste back into the content field. Javascript inside Inkscape

Hi all, I've pretty much got it down for clickmapping with SVG elements using onmouseover, onmouseout and onclick to run Javascript from my HTML file. Now I'm trying to do the whole thing inside my SVG file, for simple stuff. For instance, I have a text/tspan element and a rectangle. When I hover the rectangle I'd like the text to change (perhaps from "init" to "hovered"). A few questions: In what program must I look at my SVG file in order to see the effects of its internal javascript? Inkscape? Chromium? Something else? When doing javascript exclusively from within my SVG file, what syntax should I use in order to change the text in a tspan? The following failed to work, doing nothing: msg = document.getElementById(tspanmsg); msg.node.textContent('shunk'); If I removed the "node." from the second line above, that didn't work either. Be careful making a group clickable

Hi all, My clickmap has several screw heads, each being a group consisting of a circle, a path in the shape of a cross for a phillips screwdriver to go into, and an elipse that acts as a highlight. Each screw head group has an onclick event, and it fires just fine. But... In the Javascript function that receives the onclick event, evt.target is not the group, it's the individual geometry within the group that got clicked. So depending on the exact position of the mouse when clicking, it could be the circular head, the path of the cross, or the elipse highlight. Why an onclick for the group returns a target that's one of the group's items is beyond me. Here's how I dealt with it in the HTML page: function screwclick(e){ var parnt = e.target.parentElement; var circle = parnt.getElementsByTagName("circle")[0]; circle.style.fill = "gold"; } I found the parent of evt.target, then found the circle that was part of that parent, and then colored the circle. Before I figured out how to do that, sometimes the cross was turning gold, and sometimes the highlight was turning gold. Now only the circle turns gold. This could really fool a person who isn't looking for it. Hi all, File->Document_properties->Scripting_tab I've looked all over the web and all through my help->user manual and can't find anything about this. For one thing, I need to know how to give an embedded script a human-friendly name. I also need to know what to put in the content: Is it Javascript, and how does it differ from html based Javascript. Anyone know of any documentation on this? Theoretically, I could creat a very simple clickable map exclusively in <svg>, without the containing <html>. How to assign a class to an object in Inkscape?

Hi all, When I do HTML, which is DOM based, I'm able to assign a class property to any element I want. In Inkscape, I've not been able to assign a class property. Does anyone know how that could be done --- it would really simplify some stuff I'm doing. If Inkscape has no provision for a class property on elements, will it at least leave as-is any class properties I put in with a text editor? Awk SVG insertion scripts

Hi everyone, My experimentation tells me that life's much easier if I put the <svg/> element and all it contains in my HTML file, rather than trying to import it with <img/> or <object/>. So I made the following scripts to put the <svg> part of a (presumably Inkscape created) SVG file into an HTML file wherever the following is located: <div class="token">myfile.svg</div> Be sure to use doublequotes around "token": These are simple scripts. Script 1: insertsvg.awk myfile.html Script 2: justsvg.awk mysvg.svg Let's say these two Awk files were executable and on the path. In your myfile.html, place the following line (alone on its line) where you want the <svg/> element to be inserted: <div class="token">mysvg.svg</div> Now, assuming myfile.html and mysvg.svg are both in the current directory, just do the following: ./insertsvg.svg myfile.html > myfile_complete.html Now myfile_complete.html no longer has the div.token, but in its place has the entire <svg/> element from mysvg.svg. Path->Inset too big

Hi all, Path->Inset slightly pulls back the edges of a path. It shaves a tiny bit off the edges of the path. Path->Outset does the opposite: It moves the edges a little bit outward. Neither is a proportional grow or shrink. Anyway, I'm trying to apply Path->Inset to a bunch of objects very close to each other, just to give a little more visible separation. The trouble is, I can't find an adjustment for how much you want to inset, and even one application of Path->Inset trims off far too much from the edge. Does anyone know how to set the amount that gets taken away from the edge when you Path->Inset? A few comments on making clickable SVG in Inkscape

Hi all, I just finished making a clickable SVG in Inkscape, embedding the <svg/> in an HTML file, and verifying that it works. Much of it is obvious, so let me start with the unobvious stuff first: If, for convenience, you use Ctrl+D to dup shapes, I think they're all clones of the first one. You need to de-clone them. But you're not done yet... Shapes in Inkscape have a tenacious habit of reverting their ID and label to Inkscape-assigned values rather than the values you assign in object->property. Make your last two steps decloning and manually setting the ID and label, and BE SURE TO CLICK THE SET BUTTON OR THEY'LL REVERT. Your events go in the area uncovered when you object->properties and then click "Interactivity". Each possible event is listed, and all you do is put in the javascript you want executed on that event. Don't wrap the Javascript in doublequotes. SIZING THE DRAWING ------------------ Be SURE that your leftmost object's leftmost portion is at X value 0. Make sure your bottommost object's bottommost portion is at Y value 0. Note that in Inkscape, at least until they change it a few versions from now, Y=0 is at the bottom of the page, not at the top. When you're done drawing, once again line up the left with X=0 and the bottom with Y=0, select everything, do the following: * File->Document_properties * Resize page to drawing or selection * Note that the height and width changed when you did the preceding. * Add double the desired image padding to both height and width. (I added 2mm to each) * Select everything on the drawing, and move slightly so it's centered within the page. * Save the document, you're done with sizing. Be aware that if the lower left of your document isn't anchored to x=0, y=0, clicking will be off or not happen. Inkscape Borked :(

I've just got around to updating my main machine from debian jessie to stretch (I only ever do this when a release freeze is well established) and it's fine for everything except Inkscape. Existing files are all over the place - especially where text is concerned, and trying to change a font in any way causes Inkscape to freeze. I tried to compile an older version but configure doesn't seem to recongnise libraries that are installed (yes I included .dev) or calls for ones that I can't find anywhere. debian has no fall-back system so it would seem the only solution would be to scrap the entire install and go back to jessie. This is something I *really* don't want to do. -- W J G

Seems SVG is more and more invisible to the big companies. Here's sad tale of Amelia Bellamy-Royds's experiences with SVG and its seeming demise. (http://codepen.io/AmeliaBR/post/me-and-svg) I wonder how the Inkscape devs (et al.) feel about this. Could Inkscape not take a new route, perhaps bake-in some new features*, now that the SVG standards seem to be moot? * Multiple pages in one file — and export to multi-page PDFs. A real symbol system — within and *between *documents. Custom colours that don't rely on that fake gradient trick (And make them work between documents too!) Animation time lines. Output to gif, video and so forth. Perhaps to HTML5 Canvas with some js framework too. Scripting, Blender-style, right there in the app. In Python and JS perhaps. Opening of Gimp native files (xcf) into layers, perhaps. Use of 3D objects and materials, from Blender (say) directly in the canvas — some kind of OLE layer thing. I am sure there are many more. I think Inkscape could have, by now, matched what Flash, Freehand and Corel et al. had 20 years ago! It did not go there because it, honourably, stuck to the SVG standards. Inkscape is the best thing we have for graphic design on Linux (at least), but it's still way too primitive. Could we dare to think bigger? Start our own standard? Just wondering. When to use onclick(evt) and when to use onclick(event)?

Hi all, Within a <svg> element in my HTML body, I can use onclick(evt), as exemplified below: ============================================================ <svg width="500px" viewBox="0 15 80 30"> <circle id=circ1 r="6" cx="10" cy="30" onclick="top.doit(evt)" /> </svg> ============================================================ I can change the "evt" to "event" and it still works, but if I change it to anything else, for example "e", it fails. Is evt some kind of reserved word within SVG? By the way, if an item in HTML itself (like a paragraph) has an onclick, you need to remove the "top." and only "event" will work. I have the rudiments of a clickable map using SVG, CSS and Javascript, and am starting to build it into something useful. Hi all, I've read that, when making an HTML page with a clickable map (a map of the states in America, for instance), it's very doable in SVG. Has anybody done this? If so, did you need to copy and paste the svg code into the HTML, or were you able to work from an image imported with the <img src="mymap.svg"/> tag? Did you need to do something to tell the CSS in your HTML doc's head that you meant #rect1234 in the <css> tree? Does anyone know of a document that unambiguously tells exactly how to do it? Leaflet does a fairly good job of showing a map which can be constructed from svg paths, you can choose to have open street map tiles or not. Snap Version 0.92.1, Extensions: ImportError: no module named site

Hi, first let me say that this new effect "Perspective/Envelope" is totally awesome. I was waiting for this for a very long time! But with the latest snap installation, i am having trouble to run extensions. No matter if i try to run my own extension or the already included extensions, when i hit the "Apply" Button i get the message: "Inkscape has received additional data from the script executed. The script did not return an error, but this may indicate the results will not be as expected. ImportError: No module named site" I guess that some paths don't point at the right location, e.g., the path to site.py. Maybe something is messed up with the snap and standard file locations? Is there a way to figure out, if my guess is right? Then where to change settings for the extensions to work again? (I am running ubuntu 16.10.)

open file into existing instance from terminal?

Hi, is there a way to send an existing inkscape instance a file-open message (with the document name as argument) from a terminal or another process? It seems, the dbus interface would be the way to go but the API documentation only mentions a command to open a new document (which works BTW). I'm on linux and inkscape is bzr-inkscape 0.91 -- Orm

2 entries for 1 object in XML Editor

Hi Friends, I was just using the XML Editor to try and help someone in a forum. Completely unrelated to their problem, I noticed that 2 entries are being created for each object, in the XML. I've never noticed that before. Have I inadvertently changed some option that might be causing this? Because wouldn't this kind of behavior result in file size that's double what it's supposed to be? Just making up a test file, in case anyone wants it. And doing that, I noticed that it's only happening if the Fill and Stroke dialog is open. After closing the F/S dialog however, it's still happening. Wow, and sometimes adding 3 or 4 entries for each object! But if F/S dialog is not open when the file is opened, it doesn't happen. At first I thought this was something I did wrong. But with F/S dialog being involved, now I wonder if it's a bug? I searched in LP and didn't find anything similar. But there's a good chance any existing report uses terminology that I don't understand or recognize. Windows 7 Pro, 64-bit, Inkscape 0.92.1, 64-bit, exe installer. I can test in 0.92pre3, 64-bit, 7z version and 0.91, 32-bit, 7z version, if it would be helpful. What else can I give you, if necessary? Hhmm, another new file doesn't show this. Curious.
