snapping to objects?

I have read in the roadmap that snapping to objects is slated for version 0.48 of Inkscape. However, I have a problem now which I think may be related to this and I would be grateful for any assistance or pointers anyone could give me. I am using Inkspace 0.43 under Mac OS X 10.4.3. I want to be able to generate PNGs on the fly with Cocoon, so I have SVG templates which I create with Inkspace and transform with XSLT. That part works well. However, I have noticed that contiguous objects in the template are often rendered with a gap between them. Inkspace does this itself when I zoom in on the image, and the Batik rasterizer does it too. I can't overlap the objects at all because they are partially transparent. Is there a way of fixing this problem with Inkspace? Or is it a feature? Of SVG? Regards Steve

Any trick for sub-, superscript?

Hi there, does someone know of a simple, quick way to create smaller text in high or low position? I know that superscript and subscript are not yet implemented in Inkscape due to svg-issues, so I'm asking here if someone has a way to circumvent it. I often have to make drawings of physical stuff with formulas and mathematical expressions in it and changing size and position (via [ALT]+ [ARROW UP/DOWN]) of each sign is quite a drag. And what's also quite disturbing is that text that is created in such a way doesn't keep it's attributes when edited. So maybe somebody has a good trick for me... TIA Cheerz Lars

EPS Import

I know this has been discussed a number of times and I have tried to follow the trail of breadcrumbs but I have hit a wall. To import eps files into Inkscape WinXP you need to set the correct dependancies in the extensions files. Ok, so I set the eps file gs path, I set the ps file pstoedit path and then I went to the sk file. I do not seem to have skconvert? I installed sketch for windows ok but no skconvert. Does anyone know where I can get skconvert for Win32? Thanks, Tony

Missing 'Effects' menu

Hi all, I'm studying Inkscape by following the examples in the manual. And I'm confused by the following sentences: ''' Select the shadow then call up the effect from the `Effects' menu. Set the Blur Width to 5 and the Number of Steps to 11. ''' But there is no `Effects' in the menu bar. Could you point out where I can find this menu or is it a new feature in Inkscape 0.43? I'm using Inkscape 0.42 under Ubuntu Breezy. Forum interface for mailing list

Hi, recently there has been some discussion about a forum <-> mailing list interface on this list: http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/message.php?msg_id=14031338. have I am using RForum (http://rforum.andreas-s.net) for various Ruby-related mailing lists on http://www.ruby-forum.com, and have received a lot of positive feedback. I'm planning to extend the site to include other mailing lists, and I have offered Bryce to create a forum that mirrors the inkscape-user list. It will show up on ruby-forum.com for now, but in the future it will be possible to give it its own subdomain where only the inkscape-user forum will be displayed (e.g. forum.inkscape.org). What do you think? Andreas

clip art upload fails

Hi, I tried to upload a svg-file to open clip art. It was made with inkscape, saved as plain svg. I followed exactly the instructions, everything seemd to be all right, but when I later tried to open it in "Incoming Clip Art", the file was empty. There were also a lot of other empty files. Only a very few files are not empty. I think, I did anything wrong. But I haven't any idea what. Can somebody here perhaps tell me the secret, how to upload? Regards, Hago
