SVG and CSS
by Dan H
Hello,
I have a drawing that is full of rectangles which share common attributes. Inkscape puts a style="..." attribute into each rectangle's tag, but it's the same thing repeated over and over. Is it possible to replace these style attributes with class attributes that refer to some style defined in an (inline) CSS? Essentially like CSS and HTML.
I don't mind inserting the CSS manually into the SVG file with a text editor; my question is: Will Inkscape support/honor the CSS, and what's the syntax to put a CSS into an SVG file?
Well, I guess I could just go and try it out, but I'd like to know if there is a proper and accepted way to do it.
Thanks,

Ok from that picture I thought it was something that
could be done currently right now. Will just have to
wait for gradient meshes in the future then.

Re: [Inkscape-user] Pasting between documents? (Facundo Casco)
by Tony Vigil
I didn't know that worked between files opened from the same instance. That's good to know!
I'd still prefer copy/paste to work between any file though.

You can copy/paste between documents now. The trick is to use the same
Inkscape instance to open both. Open one document, then, from the menu
choose File->Open and open the second one. I can copy paste without
problems that way on Win2k.
Hope it helps.

Pasting between documents?
by Tony Vigil
Bulia,
would it be possible to include the ability to copy/paste between two Inkscape docs (open at the same time? Perhaps it could be implemented as a new copy/paste menu item.
This would allow us to maintain custom style template files that are used to store styles for use in any Inkscape document.

Just create several objects with styles you want to reuse, place them
on canvas near your drawing, and use Ctrl+C/Ctrl+Shift+V to copy/paste
style from them to objects in your drawing.

There was some discussion about this recently. Basically we just need
a universal list/table/palette widget that would be used for all
markers, gradients, patterns, and just any reusable stuff that the
user may want to store or share.

Adobe-SVG breaks Inkscape on debian
by stu seven
After producing an SVG in Adobe Illustrator, I took this
file and loaded it in my debian system... Inkscape immediately
broke... will no longer render simple geometrics... square / ellipse /
stars... and the same bug affects several other legacy SVG capable
applications. This is very serious, as reinstalling Inkscape does not
fix the problem !
I wonder who else might have encountered this... what libraries
might need to be replaced to get Inkscape running again ? I do
not want to do an entire reinstall of debian to get Inkscape working
again, but will of course, without an answer to this problem.
This again is apparently, something in the Adobe SVG, which I have
read have a lot of additional code in them, beyond basic SVG.
This is more than a bug... it is malicious. Hope there is an easy answer.
thanks

Vector map editor and feedback
by Aaron Digulla
Hello,
After a long time, I've come back to have a look at Inkscape again.
Some feedback:
- Clone is Alt-D on Windows which (in Germany) opens the file (_D_atei)
menu. Cloning without the keyboard shortcut is ... clumsy :-) Can you
please add a tool to put any menu action into the toolbar?
- After working for an hour on my drawing *without saving*, Inkscape
crashed (0.45.1). The auto-safe was perfectly usable (after I found it).
Well done!!
- Is there an extension to draw maps for role playing games? What I
would like to see is a palette to select symbols from, a tool to create
a legend box (with all symbols and short explanations next to them) and
a "stamp" tool to spread clones of the symbols on the "map" and a "fill
area" tool for things like forests.
The same palette would come in handy when working with clip art libraries.
Regards,

resizing the page moves objects vertically
by Paulo Abreu
Hi all.
I'm using Inkscape 0.45.1 on MacOSX 10.4.10.
I noticed that the objects move vertically when I resize the page
vertically. The objects keep a constant distance from the top of the
page, which is the part of the page that moves, instead of the bottom
of the page, which stays put.
This is a big issue when I'm doing precise positioning, with all
objects placed using a grid.
This does not happen when I resize the page horizontally. The right
limit of the page moves, but the objects are placed relative to the
left, which does not move.
Is this a bug, and I should report it, or a feature, and I should
complain ;) ?
Thanks,
Paulo

Text on Path
by Corey McGuire
I'd hate to be a whiny bitch, but I spent hours trying to figure this out,
and I love Inkscape to death and use it fabricate all sorts of
crazy<http://www.flickr.com/photos/laughingsquid/506980536/>
shit <http://www.coreyfro.com/heart/dscn2835.jpg>.
I finally got-it(tm)<http://www.coreyfro.com/images/Critically%2520Single/24x18%2520critically...>but
there needs to be better docs or an easier way. As intuitive as most
of
Inkscape is, when it comes to text on path, the software can behave very
unintuatively, and the basic method just is annoying.
I was obviously trying to put text on an oval. The trouble I had was
positioning text on the arc. The solution is make the oval you want and
create the beginning and the end points, but this isn't readily apparent.
My own error is that in the past, I have put text around a circle, so before
I would simply rotate the circle until I was happy with the position. I
think I got this method from a tutorial. With an oval, though, this doesn't
work.
Still, it would be nice to be able to scoot text around on a path so one
doesn't need to tweak the perfect path for the sake of positioning text.
If there is a way, please let me know, and please document it. I couldn't
find it for the life of me and, for the first time ever, I starting
screaming profanities at inkscape
