Just an absolute newbie running Inkscape 0.48.2 in a well working, really beautiful, vintage declared but loved computer (2.1 GHz PowerPC G5 & Mac OS X.5.8). To get Previews from the Open Clip Art Library*, it is needed to be registered at the openclipart.org site and fill up the user account data in the Inkscape Preferences**? * File > Import from Open Clip... ** Import/Export > Open Clip Art Library Username & Password. Hi to all! I finish my first "a bit producced" video [1] about SpiroLive feature in inkscape. I want to do the same whith all others features i develop... For the moment in the video page i put a share of all sources i use to develop the video. Thanks to Martin, Gez and Gabo for his gratefoul offer to make off-voice, maybe in futures videos i ask to them but while(is enought easy) i could work whith videos and youtube notes... Have there been any discussions as to when the next version of Inkscape will be formally released? We've been on 0.48.4 since December 2012. In mid-December 2013 you announced that version .49 would be released as version .91, but since then there has been no information since about version .91 -- what it would do, when it would be available, nothing. Obviously Inkscape works well enough for my needs, since I'm still using it, I'm just wondering what the plans are for moving it forward. -- Christopher B. Wright (wrightc@...537...)

I drew up some for the Shapeoko assembly instructions: http://docs.shapeoko.com/ Documented the process in the forums: http://www.shapeoko.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=2930 Here's a recap in case anyone finds the code / technique of interest: - open up either a .svg or .ai (don't ask) version - set the file properties to width==800, height == 400 - select everything in the file and size it to 400 x 400 starting at 0,0 - set each line of parts information in Ubuntu 10pt. Judah: Buddy, it helps if you read what I wrote. I never said that the PDFs created by inkscape are ready for press. I've always talked about taking them to Scribus to export them as PDF. You can use an intermediate or late binding workflow that way. Early binding is simply impossible using Inkscape, but using inkscape as a tool in your intermediate/late binding pipeline is possible, and valid for professional print. I've talked against the knowledge that early-binding is the only way to go for press. Because it is not. If you're using an intermediate or late binding workflow, it is not a problem that Inkscape doesn't support CMYK. Now, if you want to twist again all that I say just because you want to win this one, go ahead. Gez.

Look, I just wanted to help you. I suggest you to investigate a little more about color management for print, because you have some facts wrong. But it's not just you. A lot of people in the print world are just too used to the early binding practices, believing that CMYK values stripped from any colorspace information are better in terms of color rendition than a color managed conversion from RGB to a specific CMYK profile. As Chris pointed out, there are some aspects that have to be considered, and black type is one of them. If your print provider doesn't have the specific preflight rules for it, black will be printed as composite black and you don't want that for your small type. In that case, you can replace the RGB black 100% K in Scribus (or in inkscape with the CMS tab before taking the SVG to Scribus). As I mentioned in the other mail, I do that all the time with excellent results, and some of the stuff I do that way goes to top print providers who print large runs for national distribution. Believe me I wouldn't use this software for that if I wasn't sure about it. Gez.

CMYK values specify a colour, I agree that I wont get the same colour from any printer, their setups vary. Colours will appear differntly on different stock, but it is the the profiles that change the CMYK values to be better suited for coated/uncoated stock and print processes. Don't believe me Link two different profiles and see if the colour remains the same even with 100K. The profiles change the values. We can't because cairo doesnt fully support CMYK. Same here, I would have left it ages ago, I find it works best for logo's and web graphics and it does what I need except give me a CMYK colourspace PDF without going into Scribus or Moonshiner. Hey Inkscapers, I'm working on adding some features to the inkscape website and I need some help with the design/layout portion of the work. I know lots of you are experienced with html/css and what it's capable of, so I want to throw it out there and see if I can get some users to help me make the website better. This is how I see it working: I send you a html file via email which I save from firefox from a running instance here. You have a play around with the design and where things should go and send it back. I then integrate your changes, do all the template work etc. Thoughts? Interested?
